Diplomacy - The art of saying ''Nice Doggy'' while you find a big enough stick to hit it

11/02/09 5:54:17 AM#1

The title implies exactly what this thread is for. Before I start on this, I would like to say a couple things.

I am Level 21, I have played since early access, I play almost every night for about 4-5 hours.

1) Download and Cost: I got my game through D2D, knowing how MMO work I knew I had to fork out to buy the license for the game (cost anbout 30-40 GBP) and then set up my subscription (9.97 a month). Now at this cost it is great value for money, its what I spend in donuts every week for the office, instead of a five minute sugar rush I actually get to sit and veg in front of my computer playing the game for more hours of enjoyment than the aformentioned Donut gives me.

I also didnt really care much about how long it would take to download as too many factors to take into consideration, My ISP throttling me, the Server load at D2D, the amount of porn I am viewing while downloading

2)Community: Active GM's and a bunch of people in the channels. I have kept my HELP channel open as I am quite a friendly guy and Enjoy helping out other palyers, we do on occasion have the idiots who drag HELP down into the gutters but there is a GM one pretty much 24/7, also Hazmat volunteers are available for general queries, the post system messages advising to use /support (opens an ingame Browser WHOAH!!) that answer most common questions and is constantly being expanded.

Apart from the idiots (they mostly came over on the free trial so it should calm back down shortly) the community is very helpful, heck I was mining a Node Heaven when another Toon (called Shorts) came over and said 'Didnt realise you were mining these, I will move on' We got chatting and shared the most powerful knowledge you cn ahve in this game, the location of other Node Heavens (basically gathering of node in very close distance that can be mined constantly to aquire mats for crafting!). I have even has several PUG for group content and blasted through it, all in all a very helpful community once you get out and start playing the game

3)Originality: ?? No idea what that other dude was expecting in the originality stakes, every type of game has been done before, so short of Holodecks I have no idea how to acheive originality. I will however say that the freedom of skilling (no classes) is a breath of fresh air, as is the game settings (post apocalyptic) and also the Graphics are just right for an MMO, no shiny Particle effects constantly going off, no outsize items to be wielded and on max settings I can even make out the bristles on my horses rump (shame i shot it and killed it for Laughs)

4)Crafting: I spend a lot of my time crafting stuff, infact I make enough bullets to supply a small Coup on some impoverished African country. The joy of exploring then coming across another trainer who holds a book I have been looking for is joyful, or just scratching out my own book on a few pieces of scrap paper. The only problem I have is the lack of space to store stuff for crafting but I simply Priortise to craft what I NEED not what I WANT, so Rifles, Bullets,Armour and firstaid is the order of the day, then once those are done I will work on the other stuff.

Afterall having got to S2 and been as far north as New Flagstaff, started Factions (dont want to grind the wheel so Enforcer/Lightbearer it is for me) and getting to S3 to really ramp up my production

it had to be done :)

I think the only thing Buyers need to beware is getting sucked into the game and then coming home one day to find the wife has changed the locks on the door and dumped your PC in the garden :p

At least it's in the garden so you can still take it and keep playing! Granted you find an outlet...

See, that is where I lucked out. My gf is a gamer herself (well I made her into a gamer) and she just logs onto her game of choice while I enjoy FE.

BTW, I love the redux, great job.

It took a lot of training to get her to this point. Had to start her off with something that would appeal to her senses, so I started her off with AoC and showed her she could take the top off her toon and run around naked. She fell in love with that. Next, CoX, where she could run around as a sexy super hero in spandex. Next step, Aion, with its pretty colors and such. It is a work in progress. She has logged 5 hrs in FE so far and she gets the game play with very little help from me.

My wife plays FE with me. A good woman who games isn't hard to find. You just gotta be up front and honest from the start about your own gaming addiction. My first two "criteria" were:

1) Knows her way around a PC

2) Likes gaming (PC, tabletop) hobby

OP, nice writeup!

Asheron's Call. The one open world, classless progression, live team content oriented game that ALL game sites and developers show little respect for as a template to pattern future MMOs after.

I agree with the first two criteria, and will have to add one more

3) has to look good dressed up as Red Sonja, Slave Girl Laia, and Batgirl.

Had to be done and thanks for doing it.

I have been playing since release and am only lvl 15, but i love the game so much and want to echo the OP's comments on community.

I was a bit concerned about the recent event, people competing for the 100 zombie kills, but as only wounding the mob grants credit when it dies, i found everyone was plugging 1 hit into a mob, then moving on so 1 mob gave credit to 3-4 players. We even made a group at one point to do it, just a PUG, but it was fun. I can't think of a single mmo where this would have happened, usually it's mememe syndrome and people fight for the mobs, instead of openly co-operating and sharing.

Great community makes for an enjoyable experience, FE may not be the best game around, but it's a total throwback to pre-CU SWG days of community, community, community!

I highly enjoyed the 100 zombie kill quest. I didnt join a PUG, but myself and two other guys pretty much just joined up without grouping and knocked it out in no time. We were all soloing the area, watched out for each other when mobs got too big for one to handle, and let each other know where big mobs were. I actually spent the rest of the day wandering the countryside with these guys and had a blast. No questing, just scavanging, trading items the others might need. This is honestly the first time I have had so much fun in a game.

Diplomacy - The art of saying ''Nice Doggy'' while you find a big enough stick to hit it

I did the same thing at Sunshine corner, took a while, then went Flagstaff and found like 50 mobs attacking a single scarevrow and no-one there lol

as for my OP, I had to do it, the other thread was a joke, at level three you have barely escaped Hoover Dam so how you can give a critique of the game from that is beyond me, so I gave a more balanced version as level 21, heaven knows what its like at 45
