I don't want to appear bigger then i am ...and i want to be the last who would point to cecropia's reply and totally agree with it.....ehem..well.. It was me and myself pointing about my absence in that list and leading you mind in to adding me to that list .. ;) but enough of the "funny because its true" stuff.. Let the popularity of DF take over topic again :D

Originally posted by Roin I guess the difference between WoW vs Darkfall popularity wise is this. WoW has millions of players spread over thousands of servers. Within these servers they hold a small population which is made even smaller with instancing. Darkfall on the other hand has one server for EU and one for NA. Both of which boast large populations which far surpass a WoW server. Darkfall in this case is clearly superior.
So by your logic. Eve-Online is the God of God's as far as MMO's are concerned, no? Eve-Online has 1 server. Eve-Online supports more people on that one server then DF's two servers put together. (At least from what I've read on CCP's setup) Yes. Even more so when they introduce Dust 514 |

Oh come now Ruyn. While I'll respect most people's opinions on most matters, especially when they can refrain from the "Oh yeah? Well, you're a doody-head TIMES A MILLION!!!" and "Oh yeah? Well, my dad can beat up your dad!!" nonsense. Heck, I typically let most exaggerated posts go by. But come on, your highlighted statement above is way out there. I am pretty certain that even on a good night(read prime-time) on the N.A. server, that the Darkfall numbers don't match that of the more popular WoW servers.
I mean really... How is that an exaggeration? Darkfall by it's very nature facilitates open world pvp right to it's very core. WoW encourages a small number of people into a small room together. It really is a clusterfuck beyond imagining. I'd venture to say its easier finding 64 players in a counterstrike match than WoW (and just as rewarding, and much cheaper). The good news is I think a lot more people are starting to reject over-instancing in MMO's and starting to question certain developer's use (or misuse) of the first M in MMORPG. Massive. WoW is not massive. Sure it's massive from an investor stand-point, but certainly not from a player standpoint. I stand by my opinion that Darkfall has more people on its server than a WoW server by a large percentage. Especially when you take into consideration the instancing and how the game facilitates player interaction. Bold statements to be sure, but true.

WoW is massive in player base and game world. Only someone who is completely blind or in denial wouldn't be able to see that. Darkfall has around 15k subs and the odds of all those people being on at one time is a very slim chance. WoW servers peak at around 5k and thats with the older ones from launch. Pretty sure they have been upgraded so who knows how much they hold now but come on man please don't be that raving fan boy that says whatever pops into their heads to defend a game. I respect the fact you like playing darkfall just don't make of lies trying to defend it. All this does is make it look less appealing. |

I don't even play it anymore, although I plan on picking it back up again after the expansion and transfers. I'm just defending it from the likes of you and the blind WoW trolls who keep trying to bring down the rest of the genre. You totally missed the point of my post. WoW's playerbase is bigger, but not on a server to server basis, especially when you consider instancing. And like I said, WoW's playerbase being bigger means nothing to us, the player, playing on the same server with other people. |

The fact that you have to resort to name calling kinda proves alot to me. All I'm trying to get across to you is that you bashed WoW saying its game world is small when it has one of the largest. Also I wouldn't be surprised to see a darkfall server being bigger than 1 one server population wise. Come one there's what only 2 darkfall servers total. Common sense kinda kicks in for the rest of that one. You complain about instancing and i agree to a point. A game world needs to be open. The main problem with AoC is the massive instancing that it has. Though instancing for BG's and Endgame raids/dungeons is another story. |

I haven't played DF yet. I want too though. From what I understand, it has open world pvp. You are free to gank, kill, grief, etc., anyone lvl you want. And that's the appeal it has to hardcore gamers. It's the number one thing on the list of things they want in an mmorpg. I've never been really big into that kind of game but one of the games I did like for a while was, believe it or not, Matrix Online. The game itself was a massive fail as far as grind, but what kept me coming back was the desire to get revenge on the high levels that ganked me last. I grinded missions till I was numb just to lvl up enough to hunt them down one by one. One of the things I miss about the game is the rivalry, friendly and not, that existed between players and factions. I imagine it is a simaliar experience in DF. |
