Can't believe all the comments to videos of MMO I see on the net. Usually in reply to MMO from Singapore or Korea.

Below is a standard bunch of replies you'll see to videos of new MMO:

"Hot chicks FTW, can't wait to play"

"This looks amazing, does it come to Xbox?"

"Boobs!..looks cool."

"Haha, they have wingz, I'm so getting this."

"FUCK YEAH!..those weapons look badass."

Good god =/, MMO finally hit mainstreet and companies are catering to this demographic..sigh much.

Actually a MMO with winged topless chicks toting badass weapons, is a great idea for a MMO!

Where can I get this game?  I however do have one request though.  I need to have this game come with an auto move/autopilot function because with all the topless winged action I'm going to need both my hands free.... if you catch my drift....

It's an interesting concept.  However, the problem I see with it, is that there will be an intense amount of interest in the game for a brief period of time, followed by a certain period of disinterest (depending on your gaming stamina), followed by a renewed intense interest, followed again by disinterest, followed by...if you catch my drift.

sorry these type of comments are not new, unless a person is new him/herself on the net it might be persieved as something new.

What do you expect, pepsibottle?   It's like you've never stepped outside and seen society with your own eyes before...

Just like there is McDonalds out there then there are also great restaurants everywhere, just as there are mass market consumer games and more refined games. The McDonald does not force you not to visit the good restaurant does it? Even though most people prefer going there. Same with MMOs, just because there are wings, boobs and huge weapons does not mean that good games aren't being made and are available.

The choice is yours what you want to play and I don't think we should complain about mass marked oriented games, then you begin to sound like the cultural elitist back in the 50s that wanted to ban comics because they lowered the intellectual standards.

The differentiation in types of games give _you_ the freedom of choice, it does not hurt you in any way and be thankful for that.

Unfortunately those good restaurants are few and far between and new investors seem to only want to start new ones based on a fast food version of the WoW franchise.

There was something wrong with cultural elitism I take it? Why, because someone stuck up for their culture? Or was it because they did not want the world to become the domain of the lowest common denominator?

Are we a better world because of comic books? That was a media that led to a explosion of imagination, so yes. But I doubt it helped reading levels much, so no. The idea that something once controversial must now be fine because it is an accepted norm is a false one.

Any change is society has is good and bad points. MMO’s now have a far greater player base than they used to, we have fast food marketing to thank for that. But you may have noticed how players all buy the new triple A titles then ditch them after only one or two months? That’s the fast food mentality too. On the balance I would have preferred a smaller base of players who actually want to play the game for a year or two.

I've never noticed that analogy, although I do notice  players staying for a very limited time and then joining another franchise to do the exact same thing. Not because they don't like the game, just because they didn't intend to stay with the game for longer than a few weeks.

They did the classic mistake of saying this is not what I like, therefore it has to be bad. Its the pitfall every generation falls into when something new comes up.

Also there is something fundamentally wrong about trying to decide for other people what they should think and do. The core beauty of the western culture is to allow people to thrive or fall but in the process be free to make the choices they make.

Edit: And oh you don't "fight" for a culture. If your culture is not strong enough to stand up on its own then there is something wrong with it and it need to change or be replaced. All attempts through history of trying to maintain or recreate the glory of the past has always ended up with a sick construction, Germany in the 30's is the classic example of that.

I figure as long as we somehow manage to stagger the interest of various groups to different times we'd be able to have a consistent interest over time.  As some lose interest others would take their place with renewed vigor....

And what of the hard core gamers that might take it upon themselves to play for 16 hours/day?

That’s what I was getting at Pepsibottle, the games are fast food, but not so bad they only deserve a month. The players have a fast food mentality too, and having played a month move on.

I take it then afoaa that you believe that all Native Americans should now be 100% westernised Americans and leave their heritage behind? The same goes for Gaelic in Scotland and so on, stop fighting for your culture as it could not survive on its own? In Wales they have street signs in English and Welsh, it seems a bit pointless to me, but that’s their culture and good luck to them. The core beauty you talk of, that freedom of choice, lets people fight for their heritage too.

What I can understand is that Pepsi wants our hobby to go outside the boring mainstream hypes. Boobs, hot chicks, awsome weapons and the single hero that is going from level 1-80  solo.

I want to be free from the silly beliefs about what I like in my games. As a man Im not intressted in "hot chicks" in the game, I dont to want be the individual hero with awsome skills. I want to be one of many that struggles to a common goal that would never be accomplished by myself. And thats why games like Wurm is my eye stone atm :) 

Hey we need a new style of MMo but you gotta keep the hot chicks :)

One thing that is funny that you never hear about the boob action in press releases do you? MMO’s love to make out they are the game for you, with every play style and feature you have ever seen. But they don’t hark on about the state of undress do they? :)
