I'm thinking of playing this, it seems like it could be really fun. It also has gotten some pretty good reviews. Is anyone playing and is it any good?

I am playing it and it is pretty good.

However, my pretty good may equal to yours pretty awfull, or yours pretty awesome - so that doesn't really mean anything, right?

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

I am playing as well, I so far love the game, it still has bugs being how new it is but, there is something about it that i have fallen in love with, I actually read damn near all of the quest text in this game which i never do.. ahah If you love crafting items and a good backstory etc, you'll like this ..in my opinion that is..

If you like soloing, crafting, and a post-apocalyptic earth setting, then I'd say give it a go.  Otherwise I'd wait for a demo.

I like to ad if you like both solo play and group play and a open world, pretty high learning curve you might enjoy the game, everything is very well explained but we need to keep in mind that not everyone likes reading in MMORPG's and will skip many things that are or can become very usefull, even if someone is a veteran MMORPG player there are things that simple work very different but on the other hand also quite familiar if you into the more traditional MMORPG style's.

The only thing you start with is your character with just a few basic skills, you are free to choose what ever you like that fits the world obviously, there is no holy trinity, you can make one if you desire, but it aint needed.

At first the game looks and feels abit dated, but I have to admit it's growing on me and hardly notice it now. What helps is that everything fits together, meaning characters feel in place in the world, both at similar quality, where with other games you can have very high res. characters that stand out of the gameworld which looks less then the character details. Also have to say I am still playing hte game with my 4400+, 7950GX2, X-fi Elite Pro soundcard, 4gb ram so I am sure someone with a high end system will enjoy the game even more visually, but my system still lets me play any game released this last year, where even Red Faction Guerrila runs smooth, obvious not on the highest setting, but also never on the lowest, most setting in most games have some settings at very high, some just regular high and depending on the game shadows on medium with online games, AA often at 2x and again depending on the game some settings might be set on medium. Think I set most settings on medium with RedFactionG. as the whole destructeble world was abit heavy to be playing that on high. But lets try to stick on topic....hehe

Like I said you can solo play, but you are going to need the community in all sorts of way's, gladly this game is more of a MMORPG instead of just a MMO, meaing there is more then just combat only to this game and crafting can be somewhat deeper then most current MMO's, also simple things like you need to drink and eat food, not just for buffs, but also just to stay alive.

Also there is a trial out now, I got my key from MMORPG.com.............

YOU do not need to agree with me as I am only SHARING my own opinion which can be different from yours. Thanks to forums we can share our opinions and discus them.

Actually Fallen Earth is currently equally populated to Everquest 2 based on Xfire. Which is fantastic, because FE is only 1 server. My guess would be there's around 50k subscribers (that would indicate around 3-4k people online at the same time)

I played the open beta for a few days, so I'm not the most informed, but also not gonna fanboy ya.  If you're looking for something different from the standard fare and haven't tried Eve(or if Eve doesn't appeal), it would be your best bet.  Personally, I'd wait for a trial.

Also, don't let the brilliant screenshots fool you.  There's a "cheapness" to the animations and flora that can't be seen in a screenshot.  The rest of the gfx are pretty good, though.

If a single server, skill-based, post-apoc game where crafting has significance appeals to you enough to look past that and a number of launch-bugs, you may want to consider it.  But if you're hoping for Fallout Online, you'll probably be dissappointed.  The game was made on a shoestring budget.

Rob I'm not trying to argue, but I thought EvE was absolutely horrid.  I hated that game.

I love Fallen Earth.

The only way your going to know if you like it is to play it.

I would suggest buying it from a location that gives you some free swag as well.

You can get a free mount or a free armor depending on who you buy from, so shop around and give it a go.

“Never violate a woman, nor harm a child. Do not lie, cheat or steal. These things are for lesser men. Protect the weak against the evil strong. And never allow thoughts of gain to lead you into the pursuit of evil. Never back away from an enemy. Either fight or surrender. It is not enough to say I will not be evil. Evil must be fought wherever it is found.”The Iron Code"

No argument taken.  Eve certainly isn't for everybody, but like this game, it's certainly different from most MMO's out there.  And they're pretty similar in gameplay philosophy.

The sooner that FE can follow CCP's lead for selling the game (low up-front commitment costs and a trial), the sooner they'll find all the niche players for which they're trying to appeal.

Squish de' bugs and bring out de' trial!  :)

Fallen Earth is a very good MMO.

I'm just hooked on the crafting alone.

I love the fact that the things you make you actually use, unlike other MMOs where you craft something you think is worthwhile, but then 10 minutes later you get a loot drop that makes it worthless.

Exploring is fantastic. If you're anything like me, you'll go to every little bump on the map to see what's there. There are plenty of surprises to be had.

I highly recommend it if you're looking for something different.

People are comparing this game to Eve, and that's saying quite a lot.

Eve is a great game, but this one has action without Eve's learning curve. Check it out. I'm glad I did!

I'm loving it too - it just feels more open than anything I've played in a long time. Crafting and harvesting are ways to skill up and unlike other recent games with a crafting focus (Aion...) you don't have to be in a specific place (though it cuts down on crafting time if you are) or even logged in (once you've set a queue to go). Today I logged on before going to work and came home to a whole new set of armor and a bunch of guns and ammo. It feels great to be self-sufficient, and not be forcibly gimped by drop rates and loot tables.

Something no-one has mentioned yet is the community, it's surprisingly good. Surprisingly because every MMO I've tried in the past year or so is full of people wanting their hands held, or complaining that the game they're playing is not some other game, or whatever. The Help (newbie) channel in FE is full of all sorts of genuinely helpful people, and the local and region chats are fine too. Makes me feel like it'll be a fine place to while away a year or more in. There is also a wonderful absence of people bragging about their level and a lack of pressure to get to max level as soon as humanly possible.

It all depends on what you want from your game...I like the hybridized combat and the ability to create whatever build you want for your character. I like that I can log in and pootle around harvesting and getting my crafting queue organised and still get xp. I like that I can get some feed, saddle up my hoss and roam all over the map just because I feel like it. It's immersive, it's fun and it's well worth trying out.

Your mileage may vary from mine, but if there are still trial keys to be had from anywhere, it's worth snapping one up just to see what you think.

I think I'm definitely going to give it a try now. I've heard people say it feels like early SWG and that was probably my favorite time in an MMO.

Troll says, "I'm a troll bitches. Dance!"
MMORPG members say, "Hey, macarena!"

I'm really keen to try it out but I think I'll wait until after Christmas in order to give the developers a bit of a chance to get some of the bugs out.

I've been following the game pretty closely recently though.

I counted 2=)  You know a couple.  Joined very recently with just a few posts, both positives.  Of course they could be legit, but it seems all humor is gone here.

Maybe if I'm going to have my Xfire profile up, I should start using Xfire...
