"on top of that... if any of you played DAOC.. Mythic thrives on RVR for end game... and most who complained about WAR never played daoc or truly knowsmythics history... RVR is its end game.. yet so many complained thats not enough... "

Aaahahahahahahah

aaaa

HAHAHAHAHAHA

Oh my god did he just seriously say that?

Come over to the VNboards, basically the Daoc stronghold of ex-daoc players and try and say that. It's exactly the Daoc players that were so hugely disappointed with WAR's endgame, because it's just a sad version compared to what Daoc was.

Ex-DAoC players were the most disappointed by WAR.

..It seems the definition of the word "grind" changes as people want to in order to make stupid arguments. but really, grinding is when you stay in a specific location killing the same mobs over and over again for either loot or exp. You can't by definition grind quests.

This one is dead, and no use in trying to make ppl believe it will suddenly come to life because in your head "things are looking grim for Aion"... even because Aion RvR is 1000000000 times better than in WAR, and ive been there

Certainly is not - and I'm not subbed to either anymore.

Aion will dwindle just like WAR did after release. Tons of people have already quit. Now it will just slowly, but steadily decline.

here are the servers today at 17,45h....   enough said

I understand that you ppl have just like 5 servers in NA and other 5 in Euro, but lol, nevertheless...

Yeah, I went back for exactly 18 days. It was a total graveyard. I haven't played Aion yet, but it can't really be compared to WAR because I haven't heard the same kind of uproar from the players as was heard after that abortion called Warhammer was released

I have to agree with this, that's just a dumb argument and the exact same thing was used for WAR back then.

I think people were excited about Warhammer in the first few weeks. It had alot of features that, at the time were a hugely refreshing change to the WoW crowd that ported over. PvP from level one, leveling via PvP, PQs, and the first 2 tiers have never been a problem in Warhammer. The novelty wore off of course, and people naturally became dissatisfied when the failings of the game shone through. The first couple of weeks were mostly positive though.

But besides Warhammer needs to stop focusing so much on other games and get its own house in order. That's a big part of what initially got this game into the mess it's currently in.

Replace Aion with WoW, and it also sounds very familiar. Just the nature of the beast really. It doesn't mean a thing. We're gonna have to wait a month or 2 further (first month is up) before saying whether Aion will fail in the West or not.

Based on what I've noticed one month in though, there isn't a hint that things are looking grim for Aion, on the contrary, there seems to be as much people playing as ever.

why would anybody go back to WAR? that game failed because of a myriad of badness. bad engine, bad net code, bad servers, bad CS, bad company

nothing will ever be able to fix war short of scrapping it and starting again

Playing polished, lag free, feature complete games is carebear. Whining about a game you hate but still play is hardcore man!

WoW players didn't have the option to return to WoW. That is an option for beginners of all new MMOs.

Irrelevant.

Lemme help, replacing Aion with WoW would give this:

"Things arnt looking grim for WoW...you only see the whiners and complainers here posting while the players enjoying the game are....you guessed it...ingame!! LOL"

This is said of every MMO in history and It doesn't mean a thing. THAT was my point.

If you so desperately want the game to fail in NA/EU you gotta wait a month or two to know the verdict.

I don't remember that argument ever being used much to defend WoW. There's been discontent, but not on the level that there was with WAR and to a lesser extent there is currently with Aion.

I agree though that the statement itself is completely irrelevant.

I remember the complaints about the massive queues, bots, bugs, grind (GRIND! lol) at WoW's launch. There were a lot of mad people moaning, hating and bitching on the forums about the game and Blizzard.

I also remember this same exact statement being used to shut the naysayers up, let's be frank: It's one of those "fanboi" (I hate the term) signature sentences like the "go back to WoW" etc. nowadays.

However most of the complaints were not related to game play itself, unlike WAR which is fundamentally flawed IMO.

Aion on the other hand is closer to WoW in that most people are dissing NCsoft (bots, gold spammers, customer service, GMs etc.) and not the game play itself. It does have it's fair share of problems as well (siege crashes on 64bit OSystems, a single starter zone...), but up until now at least, It doesn't seem like it will follow in WAR and AoC's footsteps which were severely flawed at launch (and even now to a lesser extent).

It's true there was bitching and moaning when WoW came out, but it wasn't exactly the lynch mob mentality we're seeing on the various Aion forums. I think with WoW it was more of a general dissatifaction at not being able to play, rather than moaning about the game itself.

That is how I recall it as well, which was rather odd as there were some pretty bad issues with game itself and featurewise the game was rather simplistic, then again so were all the other games back then.

But grind in Aion is really a grind as it has slow paced combat.

Even though Aion did not do it for me that does not mean things look grim. Aion has a very long life ahea of it. It is huge in Asia so even if it bombs in U.S. (man this has been said, already, over 100x on here....its getting too redundant) the game will still be around. A lot of games will still be around then too. It is mostly the public that makes it seem like an MMO will die. UO is still around. Even if a MMO has 100k people playing think about that math; it can still last for awhile. As for WAR. I still dig it. I like AoC about the same but I chose WAR more only because of the RvR. But no...nothing is looking grim...dropoffs -always- happen with a new MMO a month later, no matter what the MMO is they happen; not because they suck but because it might not cater to a certain demographic.

The lynch mentality clearly comes from the wrong hype with which Aion was sold to the community in the west.

It had a supposed 3.5 M Asian subscribers (a plain lie) and it "killed" WOW in the east (at a time when WOW was forbidden in China for 7 weeks).

That sentence above made people curious. Now it backfiires.

Add to this the obvious fact that AIon (together with AdD on line) has a HUGE oversampling on Xfire, tx to the NCSoft cooperation and  "selling" of the game with Xfire installed (!) on the Xfire website is making people angry.

What? IS this ALL there is to take us by the nose? IS this the state of the industry anno 2009?

Killing 9000 PVE monsters to level from 40 to 41 needing .... 40.000.000 and 1 experience points to reach to a new level where you'll need 42.000.000 and 2 experience points ?

It is quite obvious why a lot of people take out that rope....

Now I don't really post much on mmo forums, but I do read them from time to time for entertainment purposes.

First, you guys are playing mmos and complaining about the grind, it's just hilarious.  Hell the game you love and dream about every second of the day even has something called a DAILY quest.  That is the pure definition of grind.  Mmos = grinding.  Whether the game is made by developers in the east that ask you to kill 'X' amount of mobs/players or it's Blizzard that gives you an achievement for running a dungeon 1,000,000 times, it is all grind.

Now you seem to have this need to stick up for a company and a video game to such a degree, and then throw garbage at virtually every other developer in existence, I can not take you seriously as you are way too bias.   If you had played other games, and said ok I like this and dislike this other part, I would give you credit.   However, I have read many of your posts and they summerize down to, "Blizzard is the best, WoW will always be on top of sales until the end of days, and your game sucks b/c it's not WoW.

It was amusing at first, but after seeing the pattern it's just sad/annoying.

What the hell happened to video gamers that woulld play games, simply b/c they are video games?  Now it's all about "my game beats yours".  Your Xfire numbers are FAKE!!! My games XFIRE numbers are for REAL!!! It doesn't get more pathetic than that.

It doesn't mean Warhammer will prosper just because Aion is craptastic int he NA/EU. After these past 2 abysmal years in mmo gaming many have stayed away from mmos. Only ones left are the true diehards. I personally waiting for Guild Wars 2, Torchlight MMO and The Old Republic.

Yah you're right I'm playing Torchlight right now, it seems more fun than current MMOs.
