I dont think you could be more wrong even if you tried.  AION has the same sub pricing model as any other major MMORPG in the asian market.  Yes, wow uses the same pricing model for its Asian customers.  Right after you said that, you have no credibility whatsoever...

As far as the western status of the game, my server has been reaching FULL status since release, there are no shortage of players and the game has held at #4 on xfire for over a month.

Like most of the haters here you lose by confusing the lies floating around that thing you call a head, with the facts.

Give me a definitive link for that 3.5 mill figure, if you don't mind.  I don't even care about the 500k, since I know that won't last.  But I want to see somewhere in writing where NCSoft stated that number.

why should he give you anything ?  Find the link yourself (assuming you can manage to pull yourself away from levelling another alt in world of kiddiecraft), the information is out there.  As far as disputing sub numbers, that is a two way street.  Anyone can be just as ignorant as you and accuse Blizzard of making up sub numbers as well.

Aion is the first game where I can admit, I will not play it and will always hate it.

I never tried to get into beta and will never play a free trial for it.

It just reeks with that Terribad MMO smell.

And I'll admit, I'm an Aion hater.

The only Korean MMO I'll ever like is Mabinogi, cause it's sandbox-ish and free.

Playing: World Of Warcraft
Resting From: Nothing
Retired: EQ2, CoH, Tabula Rasa, SWG, Warhammer, AoC
Waiting For: SWTOR, APB
Love(d): Tabula Rasa, SWG, World Of Warcraft, Age of Conan

That's the problem...

You can't give ANY official info coming from anyone from NCSoft to back up that false 3.5 millin players. ZERO.

The only one source always points back to an anonymous AU representative cited by ign at the beginning of June.

Complete untrustworthy since the only info coming from NCSoft back at that time was ... 400K players in Korea (playing on 41 servers) and 1M Chinese playing it in the (free!)open Beta launching week on ... 113 servers.

Since then the servers did NOT double or triple, so in fact the 3.5 M are not there (and certainly not confirmed by NCSoft either, they can't because they can not lie being a stock quoted enterprise).

As to Aion west: it is played on 14US/18EU (not even full anymore) servers, which means it is on par with 300-350K players at the moment. The usual 30% drop off after the first month is already seen with the famous Xfire population of Aion.

----> But the whole HYPE of Aion came truely from those "supposed" 3.5 M eastern players (which simply can't be hosted) and of course by its fans saying ... it was killing WOW in the east. But that was pure fake of course.

Everyone in the west now can see it is not even a Lotro killer.

So simple: the link of 3.5 M coming from an official source ....can not be found and the servers quite simply are NOT there.

It was a plain lie folks, now you know why people leave (just like they did in AoC, War, etc...). Don't be embaressed you don't like the game. The playing numbers were ... fake (just like Xfire  Aion is being faked in having 3 time the number of EVE Xfire players).

Servers aren't there to back up the story, simple as that.

Be prepared for the next bunch of Asian launchers to do the exact same thing (btw L2 with its original "4 million people" did it too back in 2004).

The title of this thread is of course hilarious, since most MMOs can expect at best a 30% retention after the box month. 50% retention would have been a tremendous success, which I doubt NCsoft will achieve.

If a game is good, fun to play and has a good community. Than the retention rate would be a lot higher then just 30%.

The problem is, that the last couple years most MMO launches were just crap and the quality of the MMO's were crap as well.

People are getting fed up and tired of it. And not willing to be put up with it anymore.

With AION it's basically ironic and also a shame, as the game is actually pretty okay and polished. But it's getting destroyed, because of the botting and cheating being completely out of control and the pathetic support and very poor communication (or complete lack theiroff in case of Europe) by NCSoft.

If the botting and cheating wouldn't have been so out of control and NCSoft actually provided decent communication and ingame support. Then I would have continued to subscribe.

Cheers

Whoa there.  I know this is the intarwebz and all, where logical thought and the rules of rational thinking don't apply, but if someone is going to cite data or state something as fact, there isn't anything wrong with asking them to provide a source for their information.

Lol, someone's on the defensive.  It wasn't a statement it was a question.  I'm just pretty sure I read Aion used a F2P model in Asia, if it doesn't then my mistake.

I also don't hate the game, although I'll openly admit in its current state I don't believe its a good one.  I've been playing since CB2, or was until this week.  Personnally I just got bored due to the pure lack of content and how linear it is.  I wish they'd add more content, so the game's as fun as it was reaching mid level.

It may or may not be still doing well in the US, but in the EU its certainly not as strong.  That could have more to do with the appauling support and the queue situation they refused to fix, while it lasted.

Destroying worlds since 323BCE

10/27/09 10:01:10 PM#287

I saw this game being advertised on this site for some time and had absolutely no interest in it at all. I could look at it and tell it had nothing to offer that other American titles can't produce better. Korean grinders don't fly well with most American gamers, they never have due to an obvious culture clash. I tried it out per request of a friend and I thought some of the features were interesting; but, I reverted back to my previous skepticism.

I saw the game for what it was, not for what I hoped it would be.

Aion could have been a great game.  During CBTs in korea, everyone had high hopes that NCsoft was finally listening to the playerbase.  But as we all know, that isn't the case.  Honestly, the game hasn't progressed at all since CBT in korea, only that they added couple more instances, and supposedly the "innovative" RvRvE instance.

I played Aion in the korean Kashinelle server for half a year.  The game was obviously flawed in many ways.  People still played it due to high hopes that NCsoft might actually make proper patches as time progressed.  As it turns out, that wasn't the case, and when they had the massive moving speed+dmg boost+attack speed boost hack issue across all the servers, NCsoft resorted by banning players who were exposing information concerning the hacks, instead of handling the matter in properly.

The hysteria that went on with the hacking issues across the servers pretty much helped make my mind about quitting the game for good.

It was at that point I realized, as much as I would like to see Aion as a promising product, NCsoft does not give a rat's ass about its' playerbase.

Pretty much all the veteran MMOers who tried Aion was hoping that NCsoft takes approaches to patches that mirror the desires of the playerbase.  Unfortunately, that will never be the case with NCsoft.

Aion is or "was" a promising product, no longer an improving product in the hands of NCsoft.

Sure, when Blade and Soul comes out, I'll try it.  But the fact that it will be run by a malicious company called "NCsoft", who don't give a rat's ass about its' clients as long as it earns couple BIG FAT zeros in retained earning, is one reason why I will probably never trust this company's products anymore.

Understand, GW franchise or any other such as "City of" aren't developped by NCsoft, so I might actually pay to play those games.  Just...never the ones developped by this hideous company.

Honestly, the most hated MMO developing company in Korea is NCsoft, followed by Nexon, which is also referred to as Donson ( Don = money in korean, meaning Nexon is money obsessed).

I've tried being patriotic and promote NCsoft and actually like their games, but NCsoft has been an EPIC FAIL in terms of customer satisfaction and consideration.

NCsoft doesn't give shit about its' customers, period.  That is the universal point of view of this company to many MMOers in Korea.

Where are your facts ?  It seams to me all you ve done is come to the conclusion its 50 percent off the top of your head .

Now i m not saying everything is ok in Aion . Its got its falts and its strengths . I think Ncsoft handled the launch badly and most people i know hav nt quit they just got fed up waiting for hours to get onto a server .

The servers in europe still have ques so maybe its just North Americans that dont like it .

Back up your orginal post with a link or anyone whos got any sence will see you as what you proberbly are .

i figured this out after I played Lineage 2 for a few months, watched my friend and his parents play, and heard many many stories.  I PAYED to play a Korean MMO (i played that free MMO that stole the Lineage 3 engine) once and never again. It's my personal belief that NC Soft could quite possibly be secretly be funding these gold farmers, but thats just my crazy consperiecy (i cant spell, no need to remind me) side.

Actually, according to one of my Korean friends, what NC does is this..They let the gold sellers run their business for a bit, because they are paying customers. And then, they sue them. So not only do they get huge amounts of money from them for their accounts and subscriptions, they also get a huge payoff when they sue them. I'm not sure if this is true but it's what he said.

First of all this thread is kind of pointless...

You have no way to know what "Recommended" means, do you?

Could be low pop, could be 80% of server if you consider the recommendation to be based on HEALTHY population not on free spots. Unless you got an official statement saying what every status means in terms of subscribers then don't post this crap.

What's your purpose here? What are you trying to prove anyway ? People who like it will play it, those who dont...Won't !

I just wish the game will go well so people have more options with MMOs that are at least playable with healthy populations.

Also is it just me or is it ridiculous in general that a lot of people flamed and cursed at Tabula Rasa claiming heresy before it died...but now, it's been praised here and remembered as decent AI bla bla bla "if they only added content".

You wanted the game to crash and burn then you blame NCSoft for doing that.

I've seen people say that companies are evil and not killing off their dying games just to steal our precious money yet when some company does kill a game, they're still bad guys.

Don't know just wondering what's the psychology of the average forum dweller here posting this crap :P

I played for over a month, and slowly logged in less and less over the time.

Just wasnt my kind of game I thought. Ended in just uninstalling the game tonight.

Thought it was just me, but local friends as well have all quit, same with my siblings and a large group of their friends i found out.

I cant in detail say what made me lose interest or those i know, but for me i couldnt put my finger on it other than to say, i just slowly got more and more bored and nothing was keeping me to play.

Its not just the free month is up for people, or the hype/negativity people read about, this game just bores a lot of us i guess  :X

I thought it would be a good game in the start to stick with,  oh well... shit happens.

Off to find a new one.

The last couple of days I have logged out in prime time for the east coast and still find them all on full except one. When I checked the West coast at 7:00 pm pst there was 4 full with the rest at recommend. IMHO this is not a sign of a lot of people leaving after the free 30 days. Will have to see how it goes after the next thirty days. To all those that wish Aion to fail you will have to wait a bit longer.

So, would it be safe to say that there might be a gradual trickle off of people that rushed out and bought the game on launch day, yet there are probably still those that are buying it throughout the month, and still in *their* free month.

The reality of all this will come out in 2-3 months.

Aion is not a bad game.. granted it was released for the western customers a bit pre-maturely. Alot of issues had not been fixed like they should have, and gameguard was not in place to kill the dirty botters. And yes, its rather fucking annoying to have to clear your block list every other day because of all the gold spammers..

But if you stop and think back to alot of other MMO releases, those games all had the same problems, or similar problems.

So to play the game for the first few weeks of release, then quit because of these problems is just ignorant imo.. you must give the devs a chance to sort the problems.

There are some actual gameplay issues that annoy the shit out of me.. so much that i actually had to stop grinding my templar and make a ranger due to threat and agro management issues.

But the one thing i can say about Aion is this.. in 6+ months, once we have alot of legions fighting for their spot inside the abyss, this game is going to be epic. My legion on Azphel currently has daily pvp groups roaming around looking for elyos, and its pretty fun when you run into a full group of enemies. the classes play really well against eachother, and you can tell the devs really put some thought into pvp encounters.

As a westerner, i hate grinding.. but when i see whats in store for me once i hit level cap, its worth it.
