Lets make this simple, and quick. I do not want to pay for an MMO anymore, and so why I no longer play World of Warcraft (if I was going to pay, I'd still be playing it).
I just want a FREE MMORPG with the following: Enough quests to get from starting level to level cap with no grinding (yes, WoW has spoiled me). Mounts. I don't care about the graphics, I'm fine with cutesy games or not. PvP (arena or field). PvE Dungeons that reward higher quality armor than available outside of dungeons. Titles and Achievements are a plus, as well as Housing. -MUST be WASD movement and a "follow" camera or key turning capabilities (for my mate to play with me).
*DO NOT SUGGEST GAMES NO LONGER BEING UPDATED SUCH AS CHRONICLES OF SPELLBORNE.* Thank you all for your positive replies, much appreciated. |

Maybe if I'm going to have my Xfire profile up, I should start using Xfire... |

Eh...free MMO...right...umm...Dungeon Runners might be what you're looking for while it's still running... Wizard 101...? Archlord? Umm...I'm seriously at a loss with that criteria. Not many games offer titles anymore. EDIT: for cash, I'd seriously recommend Vanguard.. |

Dungeon Runner was tried, and unfortunately had trouble keeping my attention. Wizard 101's community was far too young, and the turn based combat drives me insane. Archlord was indeed fun, but the grinding was awful and the environment was far too empty.
I have indeed tried Runes of Magic already, and I'm currently "kind of" playing it but I have been trying to keep my distance due to the numerous threads in regards to the cash shop and total cost of armor sets at level cap. |

The cash shop is purely cosmetic. No real advantage other than looking good. xD And it's F2P. Armor's gonna cost a lot. |

No such thing. See, "free" games are based on certain economic theories. You can let people play a game for free but you can't run one for free. Servers cost money. Programmers cost money. Web hosting and forums and customer service and advertising and virtually every other element of a game cost money. Now you can cut some of these elements like customer service (because really, who cares about customers anymore these days?) from the equasion but at the bare minimum servers still cost money. So who is going to pay to keep this game online? The fat cats at the top of their ivory towers? HA! Not a chance of that. So the players pay for it. The games aren't really "free" at all. Saying they are free is a great way to advertise but that doesn't pay the bills. So they design the games at their very core to be possible to PLAY for free but impossible to ENJOY without spending money on it in some format. This is how the concept of cash shops were born. Now what you want would not work in this kind of game. If you could get to the max level and acquire the best equipment just by doing quests, completeing dungeons and only doing fun stuff without ever having to grind then what motivation would you have to ever spend money in the cash shop? None. You would never use the cash shop because it would be possible for you to enjoy and complete the game without it. So a "free" game of this type would never earn any money. So even if such a game existed it would go out of business. Now if you someday discover a game where every activity is fun, there is no grinding required and the game also happens to be truly FREE on top of all that (without a cash shop mind you) then I would suggest you start charging people money in exchange for the knowledge of the existence of such a game because such a game would be the holy grail of the gaming industry. Each man must for himself alone decide what is right and what is wrong, which course is patriotic and which isn't. You cannot shirk this and be a man. To decide against your conviction is to be an unqualified and inexcusable traitor, both to yourself and to your country, let men label you as they may. ~Mark Twain |

DDO or Guildwars is the game that fits the descripton best (Guildwars dungeon only armor is the Obsidian armor, and a few others that are hard to get). Guildwars is the only game without monthly costs that comes without a cash shop, but you have to buy that game (you can however buy "Prophesis" for what you pay for a single month of Wow. But the movement of Guildwars is somewhat odd, you can use the usual keys but you can also click to move like in Diablo. Anyways, one of those 2 games are the best choices right now. ROM is at least somewhat fun and looks ok but it is not in the same class. AO is free if you play without the expansions, it is also worth a look. |

Shattered Dimension. Tons of quest, but of course, some quest come with grind. There's pvp something like battleground, and pve instances and its separate into 10 level each. Meaning level 10 to 20 1 instance, 20 to 30 another. but as a high level you can always go back and help out lower levels, and gain benefit. Best thing i like is the AH is just a click on your own option window, but once you log off your items will be off the AH and return back to you. But there's no need to set up personal shop and spam for hours, and you cant actually. Great combat animations. But character creation sux! Only thing i hate is once you reach level 27, you can use a thing call AI, which upon putting the respective skills, you can let the game play by itself. Once you reach level 50, i think, there's dailies quest that will give you xp pots. That's also pets ( quite big size ) you can own, which will level energy by itself everyday as you log in till 10, higher level will hit harder. You can merge 2 pets to become another type. Warning: The death penalty is high! Every area will spawn a high level mob, which hits hard but you can solo if you are on your keyboard, and there's also random spawn of world mob, which is the so call elite in WoW. There's also housing, and flying in this game! But like Aion flying will stop once bar is exhausted and have to recharge. You can also marry, and gain more stats. They just add a new content patch and now the max level is 200. Link: sd.gameflier.com.my/default.htm

I was in a similar situation - not that I didn't want to play I had just had enough of WoW. Archlord was mentioned earlier and is not bad - IMO, webzen has recently released SUN online and with a few options unchecked the playstyle is very similar to WoW. I haven't logged enough time to know if there are enough quests to get till end game but at level 20 they haven't slowed yet. |
