Greets
Ok here it comes. I have the trial key. IF i descide to buy this game, will i have to still go out and buy the box or am i able to buy it eletronically?
now here is my experience so far. Last saturday - got trial key and began to download the game. . . . ok no i'm not cause the website isn't working. next day - got an email from the folks at FE and now website is a Go. Begin to download and install the game. . . ok, once again no i'm not. seems the game wants to become unresponsive like every 10 minutes or so Monday - got another email from the folks at FE saying to "tune my ports" of my router. did that and about 2 hours later I'm actually seeing the updats not saying 2days but more like 5 hours. Monday(roughly 6 hours later) Game is downloaded, installed, and updated YAY!!! start the game. . . .ok, the server is down for maintance. Monday(roughly an hour after first maintance) - got back on Comp and started game. . . SWEET! i'm in. Char creation and i'm into the tutorial. . . no i'm not cause server has to shut down for bugs/fixes/ whatever Monday(roughly an hour b4 i have to meet the wife in town) stopped tryin to play FE till i get back home with the wife. log in to Ultima Online and do some mining and tinkering.
As you can see, i like the idea of the game, like how "gritty" the game looks, but a Ton of problems so far :( To Protect The Helpless From The Heartless |

That sucks for you... on the flip side my download, install and update was comparatively quick and completely problem free. I think I have only two complaints about FE now. First are the memory leaks from hell that require that I reboot my system after every 6 or so hours of gameplay. They really need to finish optimizing the client and plug up those nasty leaks because I have a strong feeling that the root of most peoples troubles is that. Secondly is the crafting/harvesting. Don't get me wrong, the crafting is some of the best I've seen in any MMOG and it fits the game perfectly. The problem is that as far as I can tell the only item obsoletion in the game is when you find something better. There is no item loss that I can see at all. I'm not sure that having such a great crafting system is going to be worth a hill of beans if the crafted items are meaningless because everyone can craft them, and it's all items into the system and no items out of the system... which really, really sucks, because IMO that makes it stop being special. I know it's a little late for such a core system to be changed in any significant way, but it is something that was brought up repeatedly in beta... no item loss + crafting alts = meaningless crafting. ------------------------- |

The Sunday problem is well known, even guys that love the game(yep I am 1)hope this will be sorted soon. As for buying the game I bought it through steam so I am sure you can just upgrade your account,no need for a box. What they seem to do at the moment with regards to patching is Wednesday is the patch day but if there is a problem that will cause players problems they will bring the server down for say an hour and add a patch(like today). When I read you decided to login into UO for some mining etc I thought straight away you should give this game the benefit of the doubt for now...honest the crafting gathering will be right up your alley I think. I personally think they were a bit quick with the trial keys as Sunday's were already bad enough before them, stick with it mate I am sure you will be glad you did. |

Originally posted by Darkholme I have not had any memory leaks so can comment on that but as for crafting, while I do agree it would be nicer if maybe there was item loss,I do know that not everyone(if even 50%) will stick with all the crafting,I just finished making my Cargo ATV and taking away the time I was crafting ammo it took me around 1 week of non-stop crafting the parts to learn and make it. I love to craft in mmo's but even at time's when I seen another item I had to make it sort of got me down with the time to progress. I can see quite a few giving up on most of the crafting and maybe just settle on 1 like guns,I am taking my time and leveling just about everything but that is just me. |

As far as buying a box, you shouldn't have to if you already have the client on your comp. Like someone else said, you can order from steam or Direct 2 Drive. Each should give you a key which is what you will need for account setup. Also, if you get it from D2D, you will get a decent horse that will last you a while in the game. I think through steam you get an ATV, but not sure. Someone else can confirm or deny that. The horse will probably be the better bet because it doesn't burn gas like the ATV, it just takes feed (go figure) which is cheaper and easy to make. Plus the horses slowly regen their stamina. Fuel is expensive, and the components to craft gas are harder to come by in S1. Picture Mad Max with a hubcap under a flipped over wreck of a car trying to catch a few drops of gas, type of hard to come by.

As for ATV fuel well it is expensive to buy but in S1 you will get the mats to make fuel from around level 10 and myself at level 18 I have lots of mats for my Cargo ATV's fuel, you make 5 can's at 1 time so that is not the problem..the problem is getting to level 10 with your free ATV..I would go horse until you hit say oilville then bring out your ATV. |

Weird, I just made my motorcycle and wanted to make gas for it. I saw that I need Weak Petroleum and found that I was 1 shy of being able to make my first set of 5 cans. I looked for a book on refining petroleum but I dont think there is one? Since I have no idea where I got the 3 or 4 things of weak petroleum that I already have, for me it's rare. I read some where that finding that stuff is more common in S2 (shrug)

Now I have 10 cans of gasoline, and thank god my cargo ATV is very gentle on consumption, so I'll probably never need to buy gas :) DB Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is. |

Yeah. I guess fuel money is also why going for the "free horse" package from D2D seems to be common wisdom (because let's admit, it does make sense at first), but I have to say in the end it just doesn't matter much. In fact, if you want to ride an ATV, I say go for it. Why? Well, because crafting your first horse is quite cheap and easy. And until you do that, you get to zoom around in your ATV :) So I say get the ATV, use it until it runs out of fuel and in the meantime craft a Riding Horse. Once your ATV is almost out of fuel, park it at the garage and start using that horse. Believe me, money spent for the horse is no big loss and will not be an amount you'll regret (or even remember) when it's time to park the horse for good (which is at least level 10). I do this with all my alts. The make-your-own-ATV quest chain is quite good XP and quite a few APs as well, so make sure you do it even if you aren't going to be a crafter. Now, once you finish actually crafting that ATV, I say don't use the resulting key to spawn your ATV: Hold it and use it later for researching the Improved ATV book or even the Motorcycle book. Because the basic ATV is nothing special - actually, you already have a slightly better one in the garage, remember? Yep, it's out of fuel, but now that you're level 10+, you'll find it's easier to get fuel or even craft it. It actually eats less fuel and has more cargo space than the basic ATV you were about to build, had I not stepped in like a proper post-apocalyptic hero and advised otherwise :P As for the real vehicles to look forward to... Well, they are at least a couple of steps ahead and by holding that key, you're one component closer to them :) Of course, you can always just go for the free horse, ride that till you get to the point you can craft at least a Cargo ATV or a motorcycle, and then switch to that. But I find the above more fun, and not much more expensive.
