Well, I grabbed one of the trial keys today, downloaded the client and hopped in. The game looked decent to me, the graphics aren't bleeding edge and the art is pretty good, minus the 4.65 million+ bushes in every square foot outside. I was having a decent amount of fun, completed the tutorial, picked a starting town and away I went. I get to the town and am told to get some supplies from a barrel right next to the quest NPC. Easy enough, I think. I was wrong, the barrel was bugged and I was to low level for any other quest. Not game ending, I go out to find some mobs to p3w p3w and get my ding on so I could get back to doing the other intro quests. So I'm out killing some funky chickens and the lag hits, mobs come running at you at near light speed, damage is delayed for days, and looting is so messed up I give up on it. I start getting frustrated by the lag and let my guard down. I pulled too many chickens without healing and died. That's right, I just admitted to dying to the noob mobs and it wasn't lag's fault. Again, no big deal, I'll respawn back in town and should be able to get quests. Click "OK" to respawn and nothing. Wait 10 minutes, still nothing. Go ahead and logout, BIG mistake. Couldn't even see any toons at character select, so I exit, restart. Wait 5 minutes, toon shows up, but login won't work. Kind of sad, I like the feel of this game, maybe I'll come back if they get some better hardware on their end.

For some reason Sunday's are a problem,I really enjoy the game but Sunday's are always a nightmare, ofc it must be because of the server-people playing, honest do not judge the game and performance on today, give it a go again during the week and you will see another side to it. I know this may sound like a cop out but it really is not,we all cry on Sunday's atm and hope they will get this sorted, sooner rather than later but outside of this day the performance is like night and day. |

I dont know, my rig is between mid-recommened specs and I never had anything like you discribe. Pretty wierd, I got two toons and pass the first quest (barrel part) and went outside and had access to plenty more. Yea, im on the buddy key too. Things that make you go hmmmm.

Weekends seem to be a real issue which has not been addressed to this point. I have got to where I dont play at all on Sunday because I know the outcome. Although a trial is a good thing it seems the overall reception has not been all that positive due to the technical issues. |

My tale is almost the same as you, exept instead of going kill some chickens to get a lvl, i restarted a new toon and choose another town, now the barrel quest work! Cool i can keep up, now i go to another npc to take another quest and boom lag like hell, reboot, my god big mistake too. For the rest you already know i cant logging anymore.... |

Like I said it is a game problem and we always chat about it in game and hope they will sort it soon. |

Enjoying now that I'm in.

I can see some Promise... But the controlls are a little wonkie. Was getting use to them though. Main problem was I keep getting motion sickness playing the game.. not sure why. FPS was staying fairly constantly at 50-60 so... Not sure im gana be able to play this. Ah well back to Fallout. QFTW.
ive let the updater run while i was out of my home over the weekend. now the dl size was about 4gig, nothing to much. when i came back it seems that the download was done (it said start instead "patching" w/e it was/) anyhow i was dead sleepy so ive closed the updater and want to sleep. next time that i opened the updater, it says something like" hey mofo dl 4 more gigs".
at the time FE folder was juat about over 1 gig. its Monday now and im still dl.... shame. bad updater is all i can say.,

Lets reflect.. Independent Company out of North Carolina with little money backing them up, unlike the big corporations (EA, Activision and SOE). They built the game from scratch. They release 2k+ Trials keys this past weekend for lucky lottery winners. Persistent world with a hyrbid sandbox / themepark setting. And its not a xerox of any current mmo out there now. |

EVE Online had that problem first!
Kidding! Actually, it did though. I used to hate logging into Eve's one server on Sunday. In fact, I would usually avoid it due to the problems of lag, regional markets lock and won't accept transactions, etc.
What I noticed in the starting towns is that there should be at least 5-10 missions every level. So, if one is bugged, put in a bug report and skip it. There will be others in the town that you are in for any level. |

Actually the downloader is working a hell of a lot better than it used to. The problem is bandwidth and server load. They'll eventually open more servers. "Any sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice." ~Greys Law |

Well at least you aren't paying for anything. If you feel like your being screwed, then stop the download now. If you want to argue how you may not get the full 14 day trial you were promised for FREE, then take the issue up with Icarus. I honestly believe they shouldn't have given away anything away for free at this point and say screw the non payers. If money is tight now for you, then wait for many of the official reviews to be published and stay in your current mmorpg. I truly believe, not all, but the majority are probably just F2P players looking to try something for free. |

As much as I like the game I honestly believe FE is not ready for a free trial program. We need the game to be a bit more top heavy so we don't have a thousand freaking players in the starting zones. The near 50k players (5-10k on at anytime) is more than enough atm. Leave the free trials for a year or so from now. Weekends are the worst since most people actually work on the week days and everyone is trying to get some play time on their day off.

About the downloading times... I noticed that when the patch process seems to go very slow, if you cancel it and the re-run the game to patch again it will be much more fast. That has happened me before in EQ2, so that was the clue to try it here, and it worked. I had to do it three times i think, but from 2days it was saying moved to 40 minutes. So try it. Cancel the update when it start to go slow and run it again. You should notice a difference.

I truly believe, not all, but the majority are probably just F2P players looking to try something for free. thats my point, if iwas paying i was pissed as hell, and its not about to et the 14 days our of my trial... its about a compney that try to get ppl to sub, but in doing so that do just the opposite,
A. for ppl who do $$$ for the game. it sucks,+6-10k trials realy get the lagfest going. if the server are not up to the volume they should have not giving away all those trials.
B. for the trials ppl, as i stated before, dl a game for over 4 days is silly, how can a gameing company thinks to even attract more people if they cant get the game going?.
C. i understand $$$ is always a problem with gaming compneys, but there are other ways (better ways) to get people into your game and still keep a decent income. for starter u can say " hey we know the game is far from being complete, but we do need money so how about we take 5$ from ppl as a small income source and let player to play on the cbt or w/e. on the other hand, on today ,erket gaming compneys do the opposite, lets lunch the as early as we can, sale some box, and from there will go on, and icarus did just about every mistake they can over the last month or so. so as i said, i stick to my point. not saying its a bad game, not good, cant realy say anything about cuz i havent got to play it yet.
do you know what im saying? if not: |

Yeah, the large influx of trials caused some major server bumps. It really sucks.
"and icarus did just about every mistake they can over the last month or so." .... What? They've made two mistakes so far. 1) The Server has some issues 2) Letting trials in so soon I like the fact they get trials right out of the gates, but a lot of the subscribers are still in S1, so the trials are saturating it and causing tons of lag. I'm also thinking there may be backlash with the trials, people who really should never have played the game complaining about aiming and crafting times. ____________________________ "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but I know World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." - Albert Einstein |

I played Sunday a couple hours before work and the game was running fine. But then I was up by Chriss Pass and there are less people up there.
So far from what I have seen though, weekends do tend to be a bit rough. But then most mmo's I have played the weekends seem to be the busiest, so that is nothing new. Anyone who doesn't understand this is inexperienced in mmos.
I have mixed feelings as far as the free trial. First off, they had some kind of distrribution problem or something because I could never find a retail box and opted to buy a digital download. I'm more of a conventional guy, so getting a nonphysical copy was kind of a big step for me. Some people might not try it at all if they can't get a physical copy, so a free trial might be a good incentive. On the other hand, you might have an influx of people that have no intention of subing and just want to cause mischief. |
