"In a surprising move, Wes confirmed that not only will there be no subscription fee for DC Universe Online, but that the game will feature completely platform-open servers; this means the servers will be cross-compatible between the PS3 and PC versions, no matter where you play." Say goodbye to Champions Online once this game launches. It's no wonder why Atari rushed it out and offered lifetime subs now, they had to get whatever money they could before making the switch to being F2P as well. I usually don't like the F2P model as it invariably means that there will be a cash shop, but hey, no sub + cash shop is better than a monthly sub + cash shop. |

Will be great if it goes the Guild Wars way - pay for the game and no monthly fee or cash shop. |

tickle me mildly interested in this title now.
i knew it was gonna have cash shops, so i was planning onstaying clear of it. but im more okay with cash shops if its no sub fee. |

Same here I hope it goes the Guildwars way. Maybe they will make pay per mini expansions...like comic book issues...which would be cool. Guildwars kind of started doing something like that with the bonus mission pack but it really didn't take off... Don't know if you can run it? |

Yes! oh my im so excited now |

no confirmation from SOE interms of a cash shop yet... the idea of in game advertising via bill boards could be a possibility |

Wow that surprises me no sub. Maybe they realize they cannot compete with sub numbers anymore, with WoW having the most and competition from CoX and Champions. |

Will be interesting if they follow true F2P .... If they do then I will play it and perhaps do a bit of cash shop spending. |

I know im necro-ing but i have this real gut feeling that DCUO will not be free to play, but a P2P with a cash shop like in CO Even the president of the company said they are not ruling out subs for it tentonhammer.com/node/62571
The question is still open about how we’ll handle subscription in DCUO and The Agency. We’re going to see how FreeRealms goes and see how that business model works for us. We may very well end up with subs in DCUO and The Agency. If we can make enough revenue, though, we may consider going goods only.
Currently playing: WOW, Runes Of magic, Champions-Online<- Lifetime Subscriber, Aion, soul of the ultimate nation, Cabal, Gunz, Maple story, Combat arms. |

tentonhammer.com/node/62571 was posted on Feb. 3rd 2009. and the OP's thread of All "Gut Feelings" aside, I would put more accuracy in the OP's post about the game being FTP. |

Might be F2P but you'll definitely will be paying for updates sooner or later. It's SOE. |

If they had a subscription service like DDO that let's you access everything for a monthly fee, that'd be nice. I hate dealing with cash shops. |

This being F2P still wont get me to play because we all know $OE and it will be use cash shop or suffer. As much as I was looking forward to this game then hearing $OE will handle it I decided not to even think about even a free trial $OE has screwed over its gamers so many times and unless they take that prick Smedly out then no I will never buy or play an SOE game. That r-tard ruins the Sony name and I have no idea why they keep him. |

Meh, I always though monthly fee where a sort of filter to sort out freeloaders and kids. But maybe thats just an illusion. Call me old fashioned, but it makes me suspicious. When something is good you demand some payment. Only trash is free. |

"Most importantly, we made sure to check in and see whether or not the title will be subscription-based or free to play like so many seem to be doing lately. In his response we were given a very strong impression that they are leaning towards the expansion-pack business model, as opposed to the traditional subscription fee although such matters hadn’t been solidified at that point over at Sony Online Entertainment. "
This basically states they dont know yet whether its going to be f2p or not. This sounds more like they are deciding whether to charge a sub fee and open all content or charge no sub fee but charge to open up content(IE zones, dungeons etc). Either way you will be paying to play the full extent of this game. At best you will probably get a small area to play in free of charge. |

More than likely it will have a cash shop. I mean they have to make money some how.
