Everyone knows WoW is the most played MMO. However, does this make it the "best"? What other criteria comes into play? I'd like to know what everyone thinks is the best "Overall" MMO... based on the following criteria.

Give each Game a rating from 1 to 5 in each of the following areas. 1 being terrible... 5 being awesome. I've also added a poll so you can list the game that got the best score in the poll as well.

This is only for P2P commercial games. If some have been omitted.. let me know and I will add them.

I find all of the pay to play MMOs currently available all have a large amount of suckage tied to them. If I had to pick "the best" pay to play, I would probably pick Eve. The best MMO on the market right now is Guild Wars, but that isn't p2p.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

WoW, sad that SoE messed up EQ

Don't want to rate them since community and gameplay changed for both.

Pre-lollerskates for aynone who dares to say EVE or Aion.

Are you asking people to be objective? There is hardly any way you could determine what the best MMO is. Best thing you can hope for is find which one is best for you. Out of your list (trying to be objective) i would be tempted to give EVE the highest marks on the criteria youve used. Except its being p2p with RMT ruins it so much for me i consider it unplayable, and how could i then give a vote to commend it. I can say out of those games ive tried on your list i like AoC better. And AoC is hardly a game anyone would ever consider the best (except perhaps in graphics).

Just to make things clear...

Woah, this is a tough thread to answer.  I'm not currently satisfied with any MMO - allthough I'm technically playing WoW (maybe for 45 mins a day for lack of a better option).  But since I keep coming back to WoW, I'd have to use that as my answer.  When you think about it, there are no aspects of it that are atrocious, and very few aspects that are great either. For me, WoW is a dependable, middle line sort of game with a large player base and world.  Not wonderful or addicting or anything (not for me, at least), but good enough.

Quite sad that a game like this is what many people consider to be the best on the market.

All the games on your list have their strengths and weaknesses. They're all good at something, and have a draw. But if I had to choose only 1, it'd be WoW. I think WoW is the best game on the market, because it offers the most value for the dollar.

I measure value in a tangible way, a way that can be proven. In this case, I judge a game based on the features, content, population, graphics, stability, and support.

WoW offers the most amount of features in one game, serving a wide audience, pleasing all but the most niche of communities. WoW doesn't have the most content, but it does rank up near the top in this department and also offers replayability. WoW has the most population in the western market, with around 5 million players between the USA and EU. Graphics are technically outdated, but is jamb packed with artistic style and flare. WoW is by far one of the most stable games on the market, a distinction it earns by paying the price in the graphical department. It should come to no surprise that Blizzard offers great customer support, considering the amount of money they make, and they have an awesome and informative website.

Now before I'm crucified for my opinion, I'm being objective about this and I don't even play the game anymore. I personally like DAoC and SWG the best, but just because I like those games the best doesn't mean they are the best.

Some of the ones on the list I never made it out of the trial period, and there are a few that I barely made it past the character creation process.

But within the past couple years the one that I have enjoyed the most was LoTRO, and I would give that one a 6.

This was more to find out on a personal level what people think is the best MMO..

I guess like has been said.. its too objective of a question.

I liked WoW when it was fresh and new. Now, after 4 years of play. I'd rather slit my writs open then touch another daily quest. I find that all games now that follow in that aspect (I'm looking at you Aion) seem to turn me away before they even get started. I was under the impression that when the MMO genre spawned, it was billed as a way to get away from real life, and be somebody else doing extroardinary things for a few hours each night. A place where you could meet other "adventurers" as well. All that has changed, and its just a "number crunch" now. Too many people who never touched MMO's before are involved, the "I gotta have it now" people.. who don't care about adventure, or exploration. They just want shinies..

I don't think there are any games like this left.
