Well, could not find the original thread of this. That being said, I saw this movie called PUSH. Have to say if any movie in recent days would make a excellent MMORPG. That would be it. The Movie itself even had nmes of the different classes. Different factions, as well as diverse skill sets. Thats my pick!

Example of Classes out of Push are :

 1. Mover: Telekinesis endowed character.

 2. Reader:Can see future events or in mmorpg style. Can track or do other types of warranted abilities.

3.Sniffer: Can track people places things off of objects.

 4. Minder: Talk about a psionicist :-D

Cannot remember all. But the gist of things is every endowed human has different gifts/abilities. They all can use those abilities at different levels.

The classes also do not pertain to standard classes like assassins, rogues, fighters ect. Which would be a benefit as well

Could only imagine a assassin who is a sniffer or a reader.

Well thats my pick! What ya think? Whats your idea for a movie based mmorpg.?

Not movie-based but book-based in this case. I'd love to see David Eddings world come alive in a sandbox mmorpg. Imagine running around killing murgo's for sport!

The Dark Crystal... nice one.

And CCP (EVE online guys) is already developing World of Darkness. This is based on the IP that Underworld ripped off. I think it's called Vampire: Masquerade or something. So that is on it's way.

I would kill to see a Robot Jox mmo made (Big Mechs).

An undeniable truth,

Polar bears are dying faster than the American economy

Sea levels now have Manhattan nestled next to Atlantis

Earths ozone is now  turning the Irish into Kenyans

Bush poors more troops into a quagmire in Iraq and Afganistan

Big oil rakes in billions on unexplainably high gas prices

Tax payers send checks to banks

The top floor of auto manufacturers is now the oval office

All people born from here on out are in credit default for 90 thousand dollars each

Get your armor on!

There is one franchise that I think would make a perfect MMORPG ... esp on the PvP side.

Highlander.

You can start at an earlier time period and each expansion would bring us closer to the present. Dueling would be prominent as would "good" vs "evil" Immortals.

There can be only ONE ....

Ummm seriously? Wtf?

Firefly/Serenity DUH!
Is there any other choice?

The only problem is that it doesn't have the financial backing behind it (hell Firefly only lasted 1 season! /cry) and to make it right, it would have to be the most epic MMO ever created. It would need many many planets, huge space (EVE sized or bigger), tons of guns and weapons and classes and complex combat systems space and ground both.

A space western that actually makes more sense than any SciFi Space show/movie I've ever seen. It was pure brilliance.

An undeniable truth,  An undeniable LIE!

Polar bears are dying faster than the American economy   Polar Bears have Endured Warmer Periods than are Forecast by IPCC. They evolved into their present form some 700,000 years ago (or 100,000 years ago) (or 200,000 years ago) (or before the beginning of the last interglacial) and their molars changed some 10,000 to 20,000 years ago

Importantly, polar bears were likely present in some final version of their present form, during the last interglacial (130-110,000 years ago), as late 2009 research indicates, when there was virtually no ice at the North Pole and average Arctic temperatures at that time were 5.7 to 9.5 deg. F (3 to 5 deg. C) higher than present.

Sea levels now have Manhattan nestled next to Atlantis

Sea level rise. For 6 sets of assumptions, the mid-points are about 0.3 meters ( 1 ft.) Since 1850 sea level has risen about 200 mm (9 in.), a little less than 2 mm/yr. More recently the rate appears to be 3.1 mm/yr, now measured by altimetry satellites. (However, we learned on 22 June 2009 that the data were manipulated to achieve this!!)

Earths ozone is now turning the Irish into Kenyans

The increase in CO2 as a percentage of the atmosphere since 1750 is only 1/10,000th, or (100ppm)

CO2 is a trace gas. It is less than 4/100ths of one percent of gases in the atmosphere.

of the 186 billion tons of CO2 that enters into the atmosphere yearly only 3.2% is from human activity, the rest is from the oceans, volcanoes, and decaying plant matter.

Bush poors more troops into a quagmire in Iraq and Afganistan  The name Bush should be changed to OBAMA in this case. Since Obama is our current active president.

Big oil rakes in billions on unexplainably high gas prices true!

Tax payers send checks to banks true!

The top floor of auto manufacturers is now the oval office true

All people born from here on out are in credit default for 90 thousand dollars each Actually if Obama has his way, it will be closer to 160,000 dollars not 90.

Get your armor on! armor is on, if it breaks ill go FRENCH!

The Matrix... oh wait... (Honestly though, this is probably the best movie based IP you could use even if it's been done already without success)

Most movies just don't provide you with enough material to make a decent MMO off of.  I attribute this to 2 reasons:  1.  There isn't enough lore to go off of in a 2 hour movie.  2.  Most movies are focused on a single character and the IP wouldn't lend itself well to having thousands of powerful characters running around.

You could look at bad or mediocre movies though (like the Push example) and maybe make a video game off them.  Jumper is another one that comes to mind that wasn't a fantastic movie, but might be a fun MMO.  There are loads of books and comic books I can think of that would make excellent MMO IPs.

Few movies/shows I think could be good MMO'S if done right. One would be new movie 9. Another would be TV show Battlestar Galactica. Would also like to add HBO's Rome, and True Blood.

Not a movie, but a TV series.

Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Just because it's made by Nickelodeon doesn't mean it has to suck. Well, okay, admittedly, it's Nick's only cool/non-retarded show. Still, it has plenty of lore to work off of, easy to define classes, clear progression, and could even take the route of LotRO where you don't really interact with Aang and the gang, but you follow his trail (as in LotRO, where you follow Frodo's journey through the different Books).

Heck, I'd play it just so I could smash people in the face with rocks.

Edit: Technically Avatar would still count because it's being made into a movie. Teehee.

I know that it's actually a book, but Dune... It'd be a niche game certainly because of the way it should be made, but it could be quite awesome. It will probably never happen though. I can't really think of any movie franchises that haven't already been done that would make a good MMOG off the top of my head. I'll have to think more on it. 8)

It's not a movie, it's 2 movies.... well 1 and a mini-series. Disney freaking BUTCHERED it though. First quarter was ok, then it started skipping huge chunks and I can't really see how anyone who hadn't read the book could have possibly followed wtf was happening.

I wouldn't say it wouldn't happen, you do know that Dune as the first RTS right? Major success there. I'm actually surprised a decent movie version hasn't been made yet, probably because it would have to be 3 or 4 hours long with a HUGE budget to make it right.

www.imdb.com/title/tt0087182/ 1984 Disney. It's junk. I just watched it for the first time about a month ago. I could never get through the first part, but I read the book about 2yrs ago and finally picked it up.

www.imdb.com/title/tt0142032/ SciFi Channel Mini-Series. Not too bad actually. Not great, suffers from the plague of all SciFi Channel movies though....... horrible acting.

I'm surprised someone with a Fremen avatar didn't know about those! You should be ashamed.

The movies may have not been great but I'd love to see the Transformers as an MMO... also.. Harry Potter series, and the Chronicles of Narnia I think would both make good MMOs.

The Chang Sing (Sing Dings), the Wing Kong. What more can a guy ask for? Mebbe a neutral Truckers faction?

Faction leaders- Lopan and Egg Shen.

bumbling heroics, or lack thereof

knife throws

mullets

moccasins

Really- what is stopping this game from being made? I want Kurt Russell voice overs and ridiculous banter, alongside some kung-fu combat.
