Funcom has announced today new discount rates for multi-month subscribers of Age of Conan.

Customers who opt for a three month subscription will receive a 20% discount (~$12/mo), six month subscriptions will receive a 30% discount (~$10.50/mo), and 12 month subscriptions will see a whopping 45% (~$8.25/mo) discount.

Not bad! View the original announcement here.

Hopefully they can get by all the bad press they've recieveed by both players and critics. This game truly has potential, it was just released too early, with no end game. This won't do much though, I don't think.

As a consumer this is great news but unfortunetly some companies have made me wary of long term MMO commitments. I'd be much happier with a decrease in the monthly rate (on a per month basis).

They could have made it 3 months for 9.99 just like LOTRO. I'm sure it will boost their subscription rate if it were that price.

I agree, I wouldn't give it more than three months at a time, it might not last that long lol.  And $12 a month is still just too much imo.  I'd pay $10...probably.  This discount is not bringing me back, although I might check it out again in the future sometime (maybe once it's discounted again, lol!)

Desperation before it hits free to play status. I remember when AoC had so much potential and sounded so cool.

Good idea. Reminds me of LoTRO and their lifetime sub deal.

Don't expect Free to Play or any other major changes unitl after the expansion. Basically, AoC is on hold until the expansion is released. If they pull it off then expect subs to increase. If not the game will collapse.

Just an opinion.

Agreed, I remember 3 or so months after launch the people disgusted with themselves for buying 6 months in advance. Its a good deal but ONLY if you know you'll be playing for a while. Most people with less than 2 months under their belt tend not to make much past that.

The game still has potential, but considering how well it has been managed so far I really don’t feel it is worth more than five dollars a month as there are games with better execution that are free to play but with way better graphics than most.

I have high hopes and fears for the upcoming expansion.  I wish them good luck with the game.

Funcom,

I think it's a great idea to lower the rates of your subscription, considering the lack of popularity of your game and the instense competition in this genre. However, I do not think it's near enough.

First off, subscribing for multiple months locks us into 1 game during those months, because the majority of people do not subscribe to more than one game. For a game that's not popular, and has a lot of "bad word of mouth" advertising, it's a serious risk to commit to such a subscription. Also, while it may only be $12/mo for 3 months, it's still a whopping $36 up front for a game you're not sure you like enough to play for that long.

In order to earn my interest, you'll have to lower your subscription fee down to $9.99 per month.

Not really . LoTRO has package deals and most game sites list it as the #2 or #3 MMO in the US for 2 straight yrs.

Exactly. No MMO that was pushed out too early has ever recovered to the point they could garner any meaningful subs long term. There's no shaking  the bad odor. EQ is a somewhat grey area, it wasn't so much pushed out too early as the tech was still in the pioneering stage AND they grossly underestimated the interest in the game and didn't have the capacity to support it w/o tons of zone lag for the first few weeks.

Not going to re-sub even if it is free to play. It will still remind the "last title I will ever purchase from Failcom"

Even if they paid me that amount per month and I will still not going to play this 32GB (initial install) POS ever again.

Everquest 2?

Ehm... are you agreeing or disagreeing?

EQ2 is indeed a bit of a grey area, it is hard to decide wether it had a bad launch. It didn't compared to other SOE titles but a lot of people had NOT expected WoW to happen either. So it "failed" by the standards of a game launched later...

So to me, EQ2 is the game that had an normal launch, then WoW changed the rules and EQ2 fails by those new rules.

It is often hard to truly appreciate exactly what WoW has achieved. It has more active players then all those 174 mmo's combined (okay, that may be a lie, but you get the point).

On a chart of subscribers, you can't put WoW because all the other MMO's will just blur into a brown line at the bottom.

So, my point stands, EQ2 has NOT miracously gained 1 million subscribers, let alone 10 million since launch.

The amount of bitterness towards aoc seems in line with the botched launch. The game now is probably among the best,  but forum activists seem to carry a grudge for long.

On a more personal note. A couple of dollars won't push me in any direction.

I am niether a fanboi or hater of AoC - more a disappointed hoper that felt a little let down at how bland the game quickly became - but there is no way you can justify that this game is one of the best out there - just damn ridiculous.

A reduction in subscription is always welcome but without real change to the core mechanics and gameplay no one will resubsctibe, find much different and stay for very long - the competitoin is too great for peoples limited spending / time.

I would be happier if they took the cash and paid for quick development of new alternate starter zones, far more quest content, huge revamps to mid game content and a slew of end game stuff.

Without this, its the same game with a discount sticker stuck to it

To err is human....to play is divine

People tend to take money serious. I payed for the game and a two-month game card. I played for  1.5 months meaning  I got seriously shafted for a game that just wasn't finished.

It is perfectly normal behaviour, we do it all the time. If you go to a restaurant and the waiter delivers a raw potato instead of french fries, do you smile happily and say "Oh, they just weren't ready yet". Of course NOT.

As for the game being the best. I tried the welcome back offer. The game ain't very good at all.

But I suppose it depends on how much you want twitch in your gameplay. Personally I think AoC just asked you to press 3+ buttons for every single button you pressed in EQ/WoW/Etc but that probably just means I don't get it. Well, me and everyone else who isn't playing the game.

Funcom made two mistakes. A: the product was unfinished and they haven't give us our money back (forget two free weaks, give me back my 3 months) and B: the game just isn't fun to play.

It's appeal seems to be to people who love lots of button presses and  perhaps some PvPers. Maybe it has hidden charms, but I have given it enough time and money. And in commerce you better have a better plan for dealing with upset customers then ignoring them, because in the days of theinternet, we can vent our frustrations and warn others.

Interesting.  I think they would have done better if they just followed LotRO extended month sub prices.  3 months for 9.99/month is a great deal.  Having to sub to a game for a year to get it for around 8 bucks just doesn't seem worth it to me...

That's not entirely true. I remember buying WoW the first copy at my local best buy.  I got home, bam huge update. Got to play for about 30 minutes, server crash.  Log back in, about 15 minutes earlier, 1000+ queue lol.  Then again, it seems that WoW is the exception to every rule.  I think the only thing wrong with AoC is that they released it way to early, to go up against WAR (mythic did the same thing).
