take a ball peen hammer and proceed to hit yourself in the foot once every 10 seconds and realize that this action is more fun then what you are about to behold... |

It looks about right 30+ is when the grind starts to really kick in for this game. |

Sorry you cant ding 50 in 2 weeks of casual play. Aion Gives you Wings!!! |

it's kinda funny to see both sides... one is the people who hate the game and bitch about it, and the others who love it and defend it to such extremes... even against people who aren't bashing it. |

Good thing you can do pvp, instances, crafting and collecting abyss points before reaching those levels. |

If you're having fun this curve is meaningless. It really doesn't matter if you take years to level cap, as long as you're enjoying the journey. It also goes without saying that in this situation, you won't really feel the grind, as you aren't racing to level cap and don't look at the exp bar every time you kill something/gather something/kill an enemy/ complete a quest etc. because you're having FUN (keyword: Fun). If you aren't enjoying it like a lot of people and are actually dreading the +30lvls, then I suggest you cancel your account right now as it's futile to continue playing with this mindset. Contrary to what some people think, Aion is not a chore. It's only work if you make it look like work. It's a game, made for entertainment, if it doesn't entertain you, then to hell with it. |

Your chart is probably very close to accurate... I don't disagree at all - it IS hard to level past 35+...
Thats why NCSoft has said time and time again they are going to increase the XP rewards for quests in this block (35-50). Everyone here knows it, NCSoft knows it, but yet its talked about time and time and time again. THATS the whole issue and nothing to do with people defending it or bashing it. The haters simply will not rest until every person who is interested in Aion is driven away - the people who do like it and play it are just sick and fucking tired of it to tell you the truth.
BTW - this is nothing towards the OP - and more of the reflection of the poor community at MMORPG.com. Its like this for EVERY new MMO here... for whatever reason this has turned into the cess-pool of the MMO world. Thankfully there's a few good folks who are left and havent gotten tired of it (yet).
Edit: In before "why are you here then"... I actually like their articles/reviews - and I get some enjoyment laughing at the haters who will do everything in their power to make people KNOW how they feel about the game. It makes me lol... you wouldn't know Aion was running for election |

I think the exp curve is fine as it is. The lack of interesting content to flesh out those levels is a problem though. *** By the Nines! The cat's in the bag and the bag's in the river! *** |

Every MMO and single player game that is based on a level/xp system is going to have a similar line graph. Level one is going to require very little xp and level max is going to require the most amount of xp. This is not something new and exclusive to Aion. The amount of xp per level is going to vary, but you will notice that the games that require less xp per level are also going to provide less xp per kill/quest. The higher the level you get the more xp is going to be required to gain the next level. You should have put this under a general topic and shown it compared to other MMOs based on a level/xp system to show how they are similar, only varying in the amount of xp required per level. I'd like to see a chart that compares all the top MMOs currently out based on the xp/hour and how many hours at that rate to achieve each level. Now that could be educational. |

I swear people think a game gets released and the dev team just goes on holidays, never to touch it again lol (that's not directed at you Lowdos - but in general)...
Could Aion use more quests? Absolutely! Is it game breaking? No - not really.... its already stated the quest XP is going to see a very significant improvement in the next patch. They could probably add another 500-1000 quests too to please the Western Market... but these things don't just "happen" over night. Vanilla WoW didn't have a quarter of the quests it currently has. Hell - I remember being in places like Desolace at 42-43 range thinking "where do I go next"? because there was no quests available and I had completed everything that was open. They actually went back years later (pre-TBC) and added in a bunch of quests to help the leveling curve. Aion will do the same thing in time - its just a matter if most people are patient enouhg to wait or not. |

Totally agree. If they front loaded the curve more they would just disinterest players early on, the issue is exactly what is posted above, they need something to keep the players at that level block motivated. |

I wasn't complaining... simply putting the xp curve in a different light... Hi, my name is Diane, nice to meet you. Anyway numbers like this have no real meaning when you don't know the quest XP along with mob xp and some estimation of how long it takes to level, that is, if you're so worried about how long it takes to level. If someone already considers the current leveling state a negative grind, watch out not to reach max level already burned out to face yourself with what you may consider another negative grind - the end-game gear hunting. Here's some contribution, the first is a link to an official interview with the first 2 players to achieve 50, and the second is an image (I don't know if I can link fansite forum threads) of some estimated quest changes in the korean 1.5.1 test server patch (no idea when it will arrive here) http://na.aiononline.com/board/notices/view?articleID=135&page=

It's not really that kind of game, though, NCsoft haven't gone for an immersive story-driven mmo, more they have gone for a grind/PvP game. There is nothing wrong with grind/PvP and certainly I think it goes down great at the PC-Bang it seems. |

Aion doesn't have an immersive story? did you see any of the cutscenes? imo they should have added more campain quests when I see some of the awesome cutscenes they remind me of final fantasy. |
|
|
My only complaint for aion is the level grind from level 40-45. Its insane not many people will like it. Its a cruel joke level from ncsoft lol.

I didn't like the cut-scenes, they sort of showed up the graphical limits of the game more than anything else, more to the point I tend to look more for immersion from gameplay than cut-scene or loading screens. |

You know back in the day, god that makes me sound old but, back in the day I used to play Asheron's Call, and from release day on there was one goal on my mind and that was to hit level 126. I listened to the message boreds and it took 1 guy almost a year of constant playing to finally get to max level. The only reason he got there was because he had exploited the vassel/monarch system, well not an exploite he just found a way to maximize what he was doing. I remember the devs saying the exp curve goes up such that the total experiance you attained by 125 is the same amount you now need to get to 126, so you have to double your experiance to go up to 126. Now thinking logically if it took you 1 year to get to 125 it should take you 1 year to get to 126 playing the same amount. The thing with AC is sometimes gaining experiance to raise a skill was boreing but the need to get those extra 3 points in sword or life magic was important enough to make you push through it, or any of the other skills in the game. The point being if getting to max level is your goal then games should be a grind, but if enjoying the journey, or all the game has to offer so that you get the best bang for your buck then grinds are masked with a purpose that go by quickly. Everyone has a compulsion to get to max level in every MMO, most are not taking the time to enjoy what games have to offer. In today's Theme park games that lead you from ride to ride with a little golden "!" or "?" we have lost the want to just play the full game IMO of course. True Open world/universe MMO's seem to be a dieing breed but I wish they would come back, todays MMO's are nothing but FPS games with a minor achievment system implemented. The immersion factor is gone, as for Aion I don't mind it but again it hasn't given me that feeling of a great community, or world that I am making a difference in or that I can truely explore. Maybe I will go back to COD4 at least then I don't waste my time leveling up, I just play my 3 hours and swear at people...LOL

But there are no overhpyed popstar mary sue characters like in shows whose names you get constantly hammered into your head in cutscenes, trailer, advertisements and in every fourth of fifth quests, but you have to read the quest and lore instead and understand these maincharacters (of the lore) positions. Also the the story is not bloated with masses of "randum appeareance/comebacks/ of evil guys" you have no clue of why they acutally do all that bullshit except for some shallow explanations like well "being corrupted...again" conquering the well world again and super DEEP stuff. Therefore its shallow! |

How about one tries to think the game as a whole and not to hit the cap asap? What I love about Aion is that every level actually matters. And you spend enough time on one level to be happy about the next one once you gain it. And no, there isn't too much work involved to level. And the game gives you a possibility to get attached with your character. Other lately launched MMOs walk you quickly through the embarrassing phase of levelling (WAR for example) and throw you into making alts. Aion doesn't. |

You can take that same chart and on the left side you can put experience you get from monsters, the amount of kinah that you get level, etc. The entire game scales up otherwise if you were still only getting 10 experience points per mob going from level 49 to 50 would take 10 years. Yeah you need more experience to make each level and this is a surprise to you? Have you not played any games that has levels at all in your entire life? Yeah there are plenty of unemployed or school age players out there that have hit level 50 but plenty of working adults with a normal life are easily in the 30 levels and many in the 40s. The game isn't that hard if you actually play the game.
