It's hard to believe Richard Garriot, the genius behind games like Ultima 7 and Ultima Online was part of a trainwreck such as Tabula Rasa. Wouldn't it be great if he got his act together and made a modern fantasy MMORPG in the spirit of the Ultima legacy (without the early UO gankfest of course)? Perhaps even with an isometric view. I can think of few things better. How about you?

RG made Tabula Rasa when he was getting ready for his space travel (he paid 20 million dollars for the pleasure)
You can figure he wasn't in the best mind set to develope games............

I hope that now that he is back to earth (pun intended), he can keep doing what he does best............. fantasy RPGs.

Waiting for: Archeage - Guild Wars 2 - Everquest Next - The Elder Scroll Online
Now Playing: World of Warcraft and Darkfall
Favorite MMO: Everquest - Everquest 2 (Pre EoF) - Ultima Online - Eve Online - Darkfall
Next Big Flop: DC Universe - The Agency

No.  That is what TR was suppose to be.  Then way late all the sudden Richard got the Sci-Fi itch and we all saw how that turned out.  If he wanted a sci-fi game tied around his launch into space, well then... he should have just finish TR and then created a sci-fi game to tie in to.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

What I meant was that his mind was somewhere else, not that he was developing a game to tie with his outer space experience............

Isometric view would never sell these days.

Sometimes, people just lose their skills.

I would play tabula rasa if someone brings it back free to play.

I know.  My point was directed at the OP.  Sorry for the confusion.  But you are right.  You could with the late game shift from high fantasy to what TR turned into, his mind was definately not into making a good game, but on his space adventure.

He said he would work on another game in the future. He said it would most likely be cyber-punky...But that's just from memory. I don't remember the interview too well.

So then you're saying that Diablo III and Starcraft II will be failures!  Both of which use these views primarily!  The view or style of graphics or whatever will never dictate whether a game is good or not, or will/won't sell!

Many of the best F2P MMOs also use an isometric view, or are side-scrolling!

Oh please no. His ego has destroyed enough genres already. Better he leaves the underused genres untainted.

Diablo 3 will most assuredly blow every western p2p MMO except WoW out of the water in copies sold. Whether games sell doesn't depend on whether they're isometric or not, but on whether they are awesome or not.

Diablo and Starcraft aren't MMOs.

F2P MMOs don't "sell".

I still say the idea behind Tabula Rasa is one of the best yet. How the world worked was pure genius.

That TR failed because of bugs, lack of content and balance isues, is hardly all Richard's fault. Remember, he is "just" the idea man. He had an idea for a virtual world and how it should work. It's not like he sat down himself and wrote the intire story and program.

Ofcause he was the leader, and should have forced more research into some aspects of the game, before it was released. Of that he is guilty...
