Meh its not an extreamly cool machine like some of you die-hards have, but its the first one i'll have owned brand new. (i'm using a 4 year old used dell >.<)

Its got a custom case

quade core 3.0ghtz

8gigs ram

1TB HD

a awsome air handling system

1 gig graphics card from nVidea

Anyways...i'm stoked.. I dont' really have anything to play, gunna dabble in crysis untill Dragon Age comes out. and then play that till FFXIV comes out.

Anyways, just thought i'd share my exitment.

I want to build a new machine, but haven't bothered since there isn't anything I really want to play that would warrant a new one. Probably build one in a year or so if something really good comes out and then I can get more up to date hardware.

Na I ordered it from Ibuypower.com

They seem to have good reviews. But once I get mine i'll tell you guys what I think...

...Do you have a problem with alien ware? I always thought they where a high end brand.

I think anything pre-built is usually not as good as you can build yourself and twice the price. That is probably what he meant by the alienware comment.

Yeah I wish I new more about computers and had more time, but this works for me.

I've got a friend who has been taking computer and networking class in college for the last 6 years, and he has a high paying tech job...and even with all of that he has built 2 diffrent comps from ground up, and they always seem to have small problems.

Mother board wen't bad and didn't have a warenty. or couldn't find the right drivers. or this small things isn't quite compatible with this...

I dunno just easier for me to buy one. even if it is more expensive.

I always wanted an alienware so I recently ordered one and am looking forward to getting it. All my other computers are ones I custom built but when alienware first came out I was a tech and I felt like alienware was the first company to lead a charge towards computers made for gaming so in a tribute to that I decided to buy the awesome and overpriced machine. After all, its only money : )

Well like I said, i'll probably play crysis just to flex the machine (a friend has it so no money lost)

then on Nov. 3rd Dragon Age comes out, I wanna get that. so i'll probably play that untill FFXIV comes out, but if it turns out it sucks i've also got Forza3 on my list for my 360..

I dunno... Honestly I've never had a comp that can play anything out there..... :S

Heh, I'm going to get dragon age too, but I will probably just get it for ps3 because I rather just kick back in my bed and play it on my hdtv. Usually like to play regular rpgs on console since it is more comfortable that my chair and desk. That and well, like I said before, my comp is a bit dated atm, hehe.

Yeah its got a free upgrade (not mentioned above) to windows 7. Ibuypower has it so you can get xp home, pro or you can get vista. and if you get vista its a free upgrade to W7.

So yeah, I havn't used it yet. but i've heard alot of great things about it. so we'll see.

Primary Hard Drive 1 TB HARD DRIVE -- 16M Cache, 7200 RPM, 3.0Gb/s - Dual 1TB Drives (1TB Capacity) - RAID 1 Data Security

I recommend reconfiguring this to RAID 0.  Otherwise your HDD transfer rates will be your bottleneck, followed by the video card.

You can add a 3rd drive or use an EXT USB for backup, and very little cost and you stand to gain much performance with RAID 0.

EDIT: Or better yet, leave the mirror and get a couple veloci-raptors to stripe, no maintenance like SSD and still sick performance.

I have been using it since RC1 and am very very happy with it thus far. If you feel a little iffy about jumping to a new OS I would wait 3-6 months to see how it goes for the masses. If on the other hand you like to be using the latest software (i use FF 3.5, Chrome 2 and IE8) then go on ahead and get it :)

Like I said i'm not a techy, but I do understand a little. But how would the transfer be bottlenecked by having the HDD mirrored?

I mean I know if I have it write to both drives it would go faster. but i've known ppl who've done this and I wouldn't (twice the chance of losing yoru data)

It's not that mirroring them will slow them down, it's just that max sata transfer rates, in light of your other system specs, will be the bottleneck on that system.

If you're concerned with losing your data consider this: redundancy doesn't protect against viruses, software corruption, and accidental deletion, only physical HDD failure.  You're better off using a formal backup solution for that (possibility) while reaping the performance benefits of striping 100% of the time.

Hmmm Yeah i'm more worried about the HD failing then anything else. And if I do anything like you are saying i'm voiding my warrenty. So I guess i'll have to suck it up. but thanks for the advice/help.
