Yawn...tired arguments mixed with xfire results that are only paid attention to if they support your love/hate for a game.

AoC is breathing its final gasps? based on what arbitrary numbers?  People like you (acutally judging from your sig it probably was you) have been saying the same stuff about anarchy online for the last, what, has it been over a decade now?

If another game run by the same company (and made considerably less at its launch) is able to stay running, with updates/expansions/patches for over 10 years on "low" subscription numbers...is that game a failure?

What do you gain rooting for AoC's demise anyway...its just a game..what you lost out of $50-$100 over a year ago because you didnt like it?

Next time dont be a sucker, save yourself the agony, wait a few months then buy a new game, spare us all years of trolling please.

Every gamer playing his very favorite MMO is going to say it is the best MMO out there and have an equal list of why's.

It's a pointless claim.

Well that is true, but sometimes people just want to talk about their opinions. No need to read much in to them. I post here not to tell people not to play Age of Conan or to tell people to play Age of Conan. For example, you won't see me posting "OMG go play AoC" or have the exact opposite premise. I simply like to talk about the game, the continued improvements I experience enhances my game time. At the same time I think that in some particular area's update focus should be switched around a little. I also like the lore too and the fact I think it is the best looking and atmosphere I can have in an mmorpg. Sometimes people will have a positive experience that they feel other people would benefit from and that the positives outweigh the negatives in game. Like the OP who left and game back again.

For me as a curious reader it is better than sifting through Xfire threads or Stocks etc etc and it is not telling me about the game itself.

In all the time I've browsed this forum (since aoc's launch), I have never seen a person claim anything remotely similar to what you just said.

oh I think we all know better than that, if memory serves correct though at AoC's launch you were still a SWG fan. However there is at least one has never posted a critical thing about AoC or did anything except make excuses no matter what FC did since pre launch and several other posters who have done nothing but praise AoC since their first post. So yes, there is plenty of balance between troll and fanboy

Haven't been an SWG fan since 05', but yes there's a balance between those who like and don't like. That's actually a good thing IMO it tells you the truth lies somewhere in-between the opposing opinions. I have never once seen someone say ( who could be taken seriously) anything like that. There may have been a few extreme views posted slanted one way or the other, I still haven't seen a statement that AOC was flawless, maybe I missed it.

I have seen quite a few names (I won't say posters for various reasons). That have consistently downed this game never taking a middle ground on a single issue. That's the only thing that really bothers me TBH. Even Avery who is probably the biggest supporter here, takes a middle ground here and there.

I havent posted here in awhile, im pretty much what you would call a grade "A" lurker..

I just wanted to point something out..

www.google.com/trends

Google trends data does not support the statement that there is a lot of interest in AOC

the Google Trends graphs show 2 things

the top graph has the number of times people have used Google to search for the term,

the bottom graph shows number of times the term has ended up in Google news.

It is pretty obvious looking at the two graphs that Lotro has been used as a search term much more than AoC or Warhammer even though the bottom graph shows that Warhammer and AoC has been in the news more. Draw whatever conclusion soyu want but to me it looks like that many people are just not looking for AoC info on the web, even though AoC has been hyped to high heaven all year long

http://www.google.com/trends?q=AoC%2C+lotro%2C+warhammer+online&ctab=0&geo=all&date=ytd&sort=0

If you actually used the Acryonym instead of the full game name, (as obviously everyone calls it AoC) - your point you were trying to make about it the lowest, not being searched,  etc - is wrong. Its actually the opposite. AoC is the highest in the example when you actually use what people search for..

AoC rocks - Ive been playing it since New years day. I am in a raiding guild, we clear Tier2 every week, and we run Alt raids as well, where we clear T1, and T2.  We are very much looking forward to T3!   (should be on test next week or so).

To give you an idea, I played EQ 5 yrs, EQ2 5 yrs, and pretty much every other MMO for at least a few months.. except Lotro , I played that maybe 20m in beta.  Wow maybe 3-4 weeks in Beta. AoC is the only game that has held me for almost a year now - and I don't see myself losing interest anytime soon.  The Expansion will bring T4 raiding as well, and hopefully thats not to far off from us clearing out T3.

Dont listen to people - I like movies reviewers might of thought that sucked, and I like games people might complain about.  Everyone complains about something. Try it for yourself, make your own opinion.

Our guild on Set is very active, and we get apps every day.  http://prophetsofset.guildlaunch.com - People can raid any hour of the day on Set , by joining Pick up Group raids, or assisting w/ friends from raiding guilds.  The game is very much alive. I don't use XFIRE, and no one in my guild does either - most dont know what it is or dont use it - I asked in global several different times. Xfire means nothing. If you need any advice, or just wanna say "what's up!" -  /tell Valorstrike on Set.

Have a great day! :)

Reactivated! Back in Hyboria, once again. :) Something just keeps hauling me back into this game. Everybody should try it out, this game is constantly being updated. My favorite MMO atm.

That's the only thing that really bothers me TBH. Even Avery who is probably the biggest supporter here, takes a middle ground here and there.

I dont think Avery is disrespected by folks here. But the developer is. The game is. The result of what the company did to the 96% of customers who don't play anymore is disrespected by the customers, the reviewers, and the industry as a whole.

Of course we haven't seen a whole heck of a lot of responsibility taking by the leader of the AOC team or execution in the direction the majority of players would like the game to go. It just doesn't make sense the game would magically turn around with a free trial when new players are joining it and finding out a lot of what has been said about the game is exactly correct.

Clearly the game is on life support and that is also well substantiated by means other than X-fire which for some reason everybody suddenly believes doesn't work with most players while they play AOC. Alexa and google trends do not lie however. The trend is steady decline. The first free trials buffed that trend for a few weeks but the trend which has been in play since Jan-Feb 2009 is still in play and there is nothing the current team seems interested in doing which is going to change that.

The good news is some players are enjoying the game. The bad news is that they are in the extreme minority and it is unlikely that AOC will either be able to survive as a single player exprience as it will be come with massive server implosions, or as a game where the developers simply don't have a fucking clue which features and improvements to prioritize and which to hold off on. Whenever you bring some good suggestions, some commonly themed suggestions and suggestions which have been long standing and recurrent on their own suggestion forums, they claim they don't have the resources to implement those and that they were listening to the broad range of players.

Never mind they have ignored hundreds of threads with hundreds of posts in each one with suggestions on what to do with the game and where to go with it. This is a systemic problem because their leadership by Craig Morrison is incompetent.

and I quote

AoC population/activity/interest have now been on the rise over the last 4 weeks. Everyones beloved Xfire statistics show higher activitynumbers than in a very very long time, and the holiday season is kind of over?? www.xfire.com/games/aoc/Age_of_Conan_Hyborian_Adventures/. Also looking on other games like WoW, LotRO, EVE and other less important MMOs AoC's trend of +15-20% pr week seem to stand out as special.

Also other media like iGoogle show increased number of searches/interest for Age of Conan www.google.com/insights/search/#q=Age%20of%20Conan%2CLord%20of%20the%20Rings%20Online&date=today%201-m&cmpt=q

Also numerous posts in the AoC official forums report of returning players and increased activity. Based on this it looks for sure like the FC team has something good going. It is however hard to quantify the size of this increase. It would be interesting to hear (from AoC players in particular) what kind of trend they see in game.

like I said when the number are going up , the fanbois love XFire, when they are going down then XFire is rubbish, can't have it both ways gents

So I found it interesting when downloading the free trial today (previous subscriber just bored with most everything else) that it asked me if I wanted to install Xfire. I've downloaded the trial before as well - and that wasn't asked I do not believe. And it's the only mmo to ask me that I'm pretty sure.

They sure are looking for every edge I guess to try to alter their perception from the customers/reputation.

Good king, great king, and yet not greatly good.

10/21/09 8:32:55 PM#62

As much as I enjoyed the game overall, there were 2 main points which caused me to quit after 3 months.

1. A PVP centric game which funnels players through very small and tight areas (especially post lvl50).

2. Mouse strafing. I know I know, I'm an old dog, but I like to keyboard strafe. AoC's keyboard strafing is soooo slow, it forces you to mouse strafe. Personally, I simply didn't like the style.

Overall, it's a decent game, but these 2 issues I had with it were enough for me to say, "k I'm done."

Age of Conan - 7.5 out of 10.

Playing: SWTOR and Skyrim
Waiting for: GW2, TSW and ArcheAge

I think thats a ridiculous boast.  You're entitled to yours and I'm to mine.  So I speak knowing its an opinion.  The game is better than trash, but may close or go to f2p because of its owner's actions.  Will their recent 20% faculty cut be enough to save the company?  We'll see.

I'd assume they bundle Xfire because the jackass analyzing Funcom is using it as a foundation for his recommendations.. Analyzing Funcom isn't exactly the biggest fish to fry in the Norwegia stock market. Combine that with it being impossible to fire someone who's useless and voila, this is what you end up with...

Its gonna come mid november I thinks... Also should be some news about the two f2p casual games they are working on. They was guided to be relased this or next year?

ff and s, topic; the best; imo, is the combat system. A tad bit different then the rest of the mold. Very nice when you are just burnd out on the everquest clones:)

It's a good thing they got the trials going again and reduced the sub price. I would think the next step is to do a reevaluation type thing. It is a really, really competitive MMO market now, so it's good to see they are trying because this is really a far better game than most thing it is due to the state of the gameplay at launch :( The new team in charge of the game seem to have turned the ship around, just remains to be seen whether they have many passangers left now its going the right way!

C. Not as good at something, anything else.

D. Not good enough for a subscription.

Personally I'd like to see the pace of updating dramatically improved, and the amount of feature implements to quadruple. But that is not going to happen to I wont pay for it. Google trends has the game nailed on the head, shows exactly what Alexa shows too, basically with Google Trends you also see that the game has had several spiked with increased news references, some about half as strong as launch. However search volume continued to decline, because they have saturated the market.

The reason they don't have new subscribers flooding in is 3 fold.

1. Their past which is disgusting and awful, a dreadful selling point to anybody informed, which is basically the entire MMO market and most of the video game market in general.

2. Their actual game, if it were so good free trials would be attracting the masses and giving the game the boost it needs and stimulating positive word of mouth not shill advertising or die-hards like you Avery who will never be critical of this game to the point it needs to be heard and understood.

3. The pace of what they are doing to improve the situation. They haven't fired their marketing staff, or stopped their shill operation, they haven't really made a serious effort to do what the community wants or this game wouldn't have problem #2. If they also had stopped all their shitty marketing practices and sold this game for what it is, instead of the hype machine and driving up all the excitement for these features which are always more than 2 months away, potential subscribers would be much more inclined to jump on board.

Nope, this game is done. Age of Conan is about to be replaced by Age of anything else but. Server implosions are right around the corner and with those there will be another exodus of players, or a move to free to play. Its over guys, Conan lost.

My bet would be, that the "failed" launch is what drove people away and since then they've either found something more to their liking and have forgotten AoC alltogether OR are just too affraid to cough up the money for it (you know 7 day trial won't get you where you need to be to REALLY see if things have changed for the better)

Currently playing: SWTOR (unfortunately)

Waiting for: ArcheAge, Firefall & TSW

Dead and Buried: Darkfall, AO, AC2, Vanguard, CoH/V, EnB, EVE, Neocron, FE, EQ, EQ2, DAoC, FFXI, SWG, WoW, and billions of eastern junks(this includes that horrid Aion, glad i only beta'ed)!
