Aion is possibly the most boring MMO I've ever played. Nothing about it is interesting or compelling. The ONE good thing about playing Aion is that it made me appreciate WoW again. I THOUGHT I was bored with WoW. But a couple of weeks with Aion and now WoW seems like as wondrous and fascinating as it did three years ago.

I really give Aion low marks for the complete absence of creativity. I never would have believed that an MMO released in 2009 would merely recycle ALL the most boring elements of previous MMOs without trying to do one single thing that is different or creative. Other overly hyped games like Age of Conan or Warhammer at least tried to add in some unique elements. But Aion only offered up the same familiar class types, same familiar combat mechanics, same boring kill and fetch quests, same pointless PvP - all of which was getting old and stale five years ago.

My wife got hooked by the amazing character creation and it ended up costing us $120 dollars and two weeks of boredom. I can honestly say that I have never been so relieved to un-install a game in my entire life.

i know really you think with the release of WAR and AOC MMOS would take a step in the right direction... sadly no with Aion you take ten steps back

The 3.5 M lies, "da best review ever" commercial on mmorpg.com, the Xfire manipulations (300K subs EVE has STILL 4x less players than Aion over there even with emptier servers...).

After AoC, War, TR, this game was faked  through the internet with 3.5M Chinese accounts (mind you L2 was hyped in the same "millions" way).

And the only thing we see is ... free publicity for the new reborn Azeroth.

Let's wait for SC and SW and let the GAMES speak, not the industry in dire need of a replacement.

Lol I really wonder if we are playing the same game :) Aion is a hell of a fun and if you would have really played it maybe into the 30+ you would have realised how different and challenging the whole combat system really is... especially with the combination of tactiacl air fights and the hundreds of elite bosses which rally needs good groups. Then there is a normal world with lots of group elite areas attached to the game, where people actually have to interact with each others (not just instanced multiplayer runs - to never be distracted by other people...)

...I for one am really happy that most WoW players are going back to their candy. Simply because I dont want Aion to be changed and to be eased to amaze the masses like WoW did - feeding every single feature to the mass just to get more subscribers by removing every challenging aspect WoW ever had. Thats simply something I dont want to see again in a mmo. And as we know the more people, the more appealing would need to be done... - The mass only removes the creativy aspect of a game...

Aion is really a very well made and highly polished game. You can try to deny the fact of its large success not just in china, but korea and japan alike - and now even Europe/America. People who played WoW for years will always get back to WoW... but people who want something new and fresh, with at least the same perfection as wow had in its beginnings and with no lag or an old and unperformant graphics engine will for sure play Aion :)

Well, the first month is over and Aion keeps its 4th in XFire for now, and keeps being the 2nd most played MMORPG accroding to the same XFire.

My server continues to be extremelly populated, and everyone is having loads of fun.

Not really sure why you ppl make this things up, but still, the desparation is becoming clear everyday that passes.

What are the benefits like at blizzard? Is the 401k good or could it use some work? And o yeah do they have a christmas bonus? Maybe when you go up to Kaplans office later you can put in a good word for me and about 3 of my friends.

Speaking about estimates, what's the WoW estimate derived from Xfire right now?

How do you triangulate your estimates though when the only solid number you have is EVE, while both LOTRO and WoW are estimates? Don't you need at least two solid numbers before triangulating the third? If both WoW and LOTRO numbers are estimates, then you use estimates to generate second hand estimates. Your original estimates maybe fairly close to the true numbers, but you can't really be sure. Thus the second hand estimates may or may not be close to the real numbers.

I'm not saying that your numbers are necessarily wrong. I'm just saying that you're basing a great deal of your arguments on numbers that are more or less guesswork. The only thing that can be fairly accurate is observing trends.

Perhaps there is nothing wrong with xfire numbers and Aion. Perhaps there is some problem with the way you triangulate your estimates. And since you're working on estimates, you can't positively identify the problem. Thus the wild conspiracy theories.

I, as well am enjoying Aion....  All the e-peen waving mouth-breathers left wow.  I'm finding most of the younger population is moving on to the next big thing and leaving most of us grown-ups to enjoy our game.   Then again I play on a RP server and my guild has a 25 min age limit that is only broken for our children and spouses.

See its all about how you approach a game.  Some people like to complain about the bads out there when they do nothing to insulate themselves from them.

Short of pure trolling, I concur the game experience was so bad that every other MMO title played previously was a breath of fresh air again.

Coming from someone who heavily enjoys caster playstyle, Aion completely fails. With casting limited by completion of cast animations, any attempt at plot or overall game experience was moot. This is an issue that wasn't going to get any better or any less apparent after the first 10 levels of play. This game, complete with auto-facing and auto-distancing, reeks of catering to casual-friendly melee combat.

4 hours after starting a LAN party at a coworkers' place, uninstalls were being performed, and the collective focus was finishing the beers we unrightly assumed would be consumed alongside play.

I'm part of the problem because you can't give a reasonable explanation on why Aion numbers are inflated on xfire?

I suppose I am since I can't give a reasonable explanation either.

The only explanation I can think of, which doesn't involve a tinfoil hat, is that for some reason xfire is a lot more appealing to Aion users for some reason. Thus the percentage of people playing Aion while using xfire is a lot bigger than the people playing other MMOs and use xfire. I have no idea if this is the case though, since I've never used xfire, I didn't think that xfire was any useful.

Just so you know, Aionsource and other sites have told people on purpose in many threads, even threads solely explaining how to use Xfire, to use it to record their gameplay.

It's only normal that the numbers are inflated versus earlier games, no one I know who plays old-school games even knows what Xfire is.

Regardless, you can't judge the Xfire numbers until the first month runs out and another thing is, Xfire uses hours played, not the amount of accounts.

It's only natural that people play a game more when it comes out, it doesn't mean the game has more subs.

That is indeed the title of this topic and is already what the poster said he would do.

You might want to try harder next time on a really good sniping remark

They will go back to WOW and a month from now complain that there is nothing else out then will jump on another bandwagon, fill their forums with whines about not being like WOW and then repeat the cycle all over. Of course thats until TOR hits then t he whine will be there isnt enough raiding or better yet the fact that none of the toons look like a night elf. WOW may have been good for blizzard but it is the worst thing to ever happen to this genre and will be regarded as such. Successful it is and cant fault it for that but it all but killed this genre of games.

ok you cant have it both ways.

point 1

WOW did nothing new and isnt original

point 2

if wow isnt original then everything wow did was done before.

conclusion

wow did not ruin mmo's  the mmo's wow copied itself from ruined mmo's

thank you for taking the time to use logic

@thg7f:

That is not what he meant. He only explained where the hate comes from. Not if it is logic.

Anyhow, I was not looking for a discussion about it. I just find it a bit easy to say "go back to WoW" all the time, especially in a topic where it's implied the poster is intending to do just that.

Lol the xfire discussion is ridiculous... I just asked in my guild, we have around 15 members on, NOT ONE of them is using xfire... Now make up your own mind... ;)
