After quitting EQ after 4 years I'm interested in WoW and CoH but after looking on the boards all I see are kids chatting about the game. I know this is a touchy subject but from my experience in EQ I can say that most people under 18 do not have the social skills to play with the respect of others in mind. With that said, are there any games coming out that will either actively ban anyone who is not an adult (not likely

All that is needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. |
uhm.....for 1. Most the MMRPGers are teens 2. Adults can be just as immature as some 15 year old, as where a 15 year old can be as mature as some adults. Age isn't a issue. Its all about how mature the person is. If you want to be around people who are "mature". Join a guild, or better yet make your own. They won't ban someone because of their age, but you can always keep them out of your guild and away from you. -Selek -Selek |

i dont believe i tend to be an asshole in mmorpgs, and im only 13. when i told ppl in my guild i was 13 they had a hard time believing me. and ive met many a person online that are immature and tell me there adults. u can never be sure though, i hate it when ppl use female chars but are actually male, or vice versa. its... wierd. join the "role play" server of whatever game. You will find the "age" is higher and so is maturity, and there isn't a whole lot of role playing actually done.
|
|
This is the answer! I've always found the 'maturity' level much higher on the role play server. Practice?? You all talkin bout Practice??? Not a game??? Not a game..... Practice?? You all talkin bout Practice??? Not a game??? Not a game..... |

That might be because the older generations were brought up playing DnD and such having to use their imagination in order to role play unlike todays youth who just need to turn on the TV or computer to start roleplaying and don't take it seriously. Me... I like role playing, but sometimes people go too far and just start pissing people off.

Rofl. What do you mean? How can you go to far in RPing? |
|
Rofl. Mee too. You try to make out with them (in the game) and then they are like Uhmm like....Oh my god...IM a guy? And your like WTF? |
|
|
Like I remember from EQ there were people who would type in these songs all the time... or rhyme... but the thing I hate is the people who use RPing as an excuse to do stupid things!!! Some guy kill steals and then says hes RPing... umm no.

Here’s an idea: Why not get rid of the biased halfwits such as yourself? I’m sorry; but I think that notion is extremely insulting. I’ll admit that most of those annoying “d00ds” are probably under the age of 18. But like you said, there are plenty of mature teenagers . . . probably more than you think. And because of their age you want to stop them from playing? Isn’t that a little unfair? Or maybe even a little prejudiced?

Ok... this is something I have to agree with... and just because I am 15 isn't the reason to any idiot who wants to say that. Most of the mmrpg gaming community is made up of teens... but, I also agree that adults can be just as immature as any kid you will meet, and some kids you meet (such as myself) have the ability to take role playing serously, and act a lot older than they are... and hey, I've made plenty of people assume I was 18+. On another note, if you don't like those people then just do the fuggin mature thing and ignore them, and if they bother you THAT much, then stop playing the game... --------------------------------------------- Maybe it's just me, but a lot of people seem to post before they... ------------------------------------------- |

I feel VERY insulted...as most of you know I am 14, and people in EQ knew that..yes but they did respect me, as i respected them stop stereotyping us teenagers, and think about those immature adults...I understand your point though, I had an 8 year old in one of my groups once, and he didn't really comprehend what i was saying...but that was different it's not all of us who are immature so think before you speak Email me at MurtBijani@hotmail.com

While I would agree that a good majority of the so called annoying people in mmrpg are teenagers(or less!!) there are many nice ones and matured for their age. I still prefer 2 whining teenagers to 1 adult one though because teenagers seems to change very quickly with their environment while adults do not. A good example is my time in UO.Ok I do not know about now so if you are in UO take no offense to this since I ahd a great time when I was there myself. I am talking 1997- early 2000 here. UO community has a very high rate compared to all the rest mmrpg I have ever played. A few of the notorious and annoying people actually had websites or get found out and someone disgrunted posted their real pics. More then half of them were adults. UO community has this high ratio because of so many adults in the game actually been annoying buggers and the kids just pick up on it.The GMs were about the same so it all kind of grew to that state. Kind of like Liberia. I went to EQ and found very mature GMs(back when there was server GMs that is) which kind of shocked me. The crowd was equally matrue and most kids in the game followed the example and played in a mature way with respect to their fellow players. In EQ most people knew the cheats/thieves/chronic trainers in the server because there were not that many. In UO(again saying about time I was there) there were so many that it was pointless to even try and remember rule of thumbs usually says next person you meet better watch out. |

EQ's gameplay also required people to group up and socialize... the lvl 12 mage who always steals loot and is annoying isn't gonna be getting many groups and therefore isn't gonna be getting very far now is he

How hard do you want to be hit with the common sense bat? No game is going to ban kids. |

I'd say you were off the mark here. I would play a game absolutely that banned kids and whose business would it be if they did. Adult dating sites have age limits - so can games - or are games not allowed to be for adults :P For those discussing maturity lvl, it is true that some under 18 are mature but it's more rare than the norm. It's not their fault tho - they are supposed to be children - it is their time to be wild and idiotic, to fantasize that they will be rich and famous and marry a wonderful person and to be fed by mommy and daddy having no idea what living on their own is like. Reality may come to smack them around 25 when they have gone thru relationships and jobs only to find that neither are what they promise. Friends will come and go and sometimes be aggressive on their way out, along with lovers. Once that childlike innocence is gone - why try to go back to believing in santa and pretending the world is snowballs and rainbows. The snowballs are packed around an ice block - the rainbows are dimmer as your eyes age and more mottled - difference of color is no longer the beauty it's now the reason for caste and judgments. Yes, I would hang with a more adult crowd preferably - give me the dark and cynical over the fluffy and fad hopping followers that are still being marketed to by pepsi. I don't blame a kid for being one but I don't have to seek them out if I find them childish and ignorant of some parts of the world. It sounds like what the OP is expressing. If they don't want to play with kids - why should anyone care. I personally have found it draining to continually censor myself and dumb down my conversation when I talk to some kids in guilds I've been in. Sometimes they haven't even heard of words I use, how can they get my jokes when they are plays on words or the like. It's just a different mental place if you ask me and there is no reason to not seek like minded folks for interaction even in a game. I haven't tho heard of an over 18 only game, maybe in the upcoming years. |

I will never play an mmorpg with Microtransactions |
Yeah, its not about age its the maturity of the person, but that being said i dont want to play mmo's with 15 year old. so the OP's question still has some validity. |

Good luck because every MMO (yes even so called mature ones) would have players below age of 18. So i suggest stop being so jaded and enjoy whatever MMO you play next. |

Mortal online is appearing to be geared toward a mature audience. Check it out if you haven't. It is currently in Beta and is still slated for a Q4 release (although I'm betting it will be pushed back a few months). |
