There are some rumours , or more talk at JGE forums. Saying that game is dead.

Netdevil are promising beta since 2007. And the game was delayed 3 times each time pushed by 6 months.

Gazillion that acquired Netdevil , started fiering employes yesterday and closing its studios.

And on top of that it was so quiet , i think most of the people forgot what Jumpgate is....

The layoffs were at Slipgate Ironworks and the studio wasn't closed [source] - this doesn't affect NetDevil in any way, except I guess if any of the developers that were moved around internally ended up on ND's development team.

The game is still very much alive and the last few months have been spent reworking chunks of the game based on feedback from the F&F tests earlier this year. As soon as the powers that be are happy to announce more concrete news, they will do. Anything else you hear are, as you say, just rumours - unsubstantiated and baseless.

Maybe so, but as I stated in the thread below this one, Amazon has recently pushed the estimated release date of this game back by almost six months on its preorder form.

Honestly, I wish they'd stop announcing MMORPGs at all until they're about a year away from release, give or take. Instead, they show them at E3 three, even four years before release, and waiting half a decade to play them is getting pretty tiresome.

It's also why these rumors start floating around.

2007 they said the game will be released end of the year or early spring 2008.

Its just puzzles me how can you miss your estimate by 4 years ?

Not sure where you're getting your information (cite some sources would be good) but the game wasn't formally announced until the tail end of 2007/start of 2008 and was firmly described as being in alpha in March 2008. I'll happily cite my source: Scott Brown over a drink at the end of the Codemasters Connect '08 event - that was 14th/15th March 2008 and was the first public showing of the game.

As you corectly state - game was announced second half 2007.

At that time Scot claimed that they worked on the game for quite some time in quiet. And since they have great experience form JGC the game would be finished Q1 2008.

This was before Codemasters stepped in as publisher.

After that - they said Codemasters give them more time to concentrate on polish and the game will released in summer 2008.

Since they changed forums twice , its quite hard to find the source.

What I find symptomatic is that they said exactly the same thing when Gazillion took over.  And it was again in the time they promised the release.

It really starts to sound like waporeware

This is the lamest thread ever.

JGE could be released today. So it is hardly vaporware. Everyone is getting restless yes but that in no way means that the game is some how caned.

They are reworking the quest system and other minor and major things to make the best game they can based on feed back from testers. So ND is doing what every mmo dev team should. They are listening and improving the game. They are making sure the game is as fun as it can be before they release it which is exactly what they should do in the very competitive market that the mmo market has come to be. So what, do you want them to release a half assed game so you can then complain about how the game is clearly not as good as it could have been?

ND has the will, the expertise and the backing to develop this game methodically and thoroughly and I sure as hell don't want to rush them and you should be glad they are taking the necessary time to make this game great. Besides we have been waiting for a good twitch-skill based space mmo for years whats another 6 months.

And as they have said before, they will release the game when they think it is as good as it can be. They will release when it is done and not before.

Here watch this in case you missed it: www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/297/view/videos/play/1528/AGDC-09-Developer-Walkthrough.html

There seems to be a lot of children on these forums. Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?  WHAAA I want my bottle. LOL

Seriously get someone to change your diapers so you are not so cranky!

If a companysays game is ready for release 2007.

Than scraps it.

Say game is ready for relese 2008

Scraps it...

Say game is ready for relese 2009

Scraps it...

Say game is ready for release 2010...

Does that mean that they started over 4 times, cause something was terribly wrong ?

Or that they are so amauterish that they miss self estimated deadline by year..and than by another year...and another, and another.

They said game was supposed to enter closed beta 4 years ago for crying out loud!

The release dates you posted are fabrications.

If the game is not as good as it could be then yeah something is terribly wrong with releasing it before you adjust it to be as good as it can be.

Your claim that ND is an amateur company is ridiculous. The fact that they have stated they are not releasing JGE until they feel it is done tells us that they are vets and your release dates are made up. They were the ones who made JGC. They are the perfect company to make a twitch-skill based space flight simulator mmo because they already have made a twitch-skill based space flight simulator mmo; and JGC still has the best flight engine of any space game to date. You are just saying stuff for the sake of saying stuff is what it sounds like.

They estimated get over it. Any projections were not meant as deadlines set in stone.

THERE IS NO RELEASE DATE FOR JGE!

If you want a company that chooses deadlines over quality then SOE is the company for you.

Just because some utter idiot posts an incredibly dumb thread on the official forum saying the game is dead doesn't make it so.

Willing to wait as long as it takes for ND to put out a product they believe in. Love space sims and really looking forward to giving this one a whirl. When the time is right I hope this game delivers...

I'm interested in finding out if the game falls on it's ass or if ND bothers to listen to any of their fan base from the previous game Jumpgate Classic.

So far they have told the classic players that they aren't going to get what they want and they should just deal with it.

We tried to explain things to them in Auto Assault as well...

I love the lore and the setting.  Loved the classic game.  The new one sounds like a travesty of the old.

Going to be WoW in space.  If that appeals this might be the game for you.  PVP should be a joke based on what devs are saying.   PVP sounds utterly pointless.  So hopefully they will make the PVE side of the game phenomenal.  There is no point to their PVP as the game currently stands.

AOC did this and failed.  WAR did this and failed.  Netdevil thinks they can do it and it will work.

mmmkay.

Maybe I need to change my signature, not sure I'm a fan of what they are putting out anymore.

So they should make the game more like JGC? yea, that seemed to workout for them the first time ...

PvP sounds like what it was in DAOC and Planetside and that's sector/base control, so it should be good if they impliment it right.

I was kind of hoping this would actually release, as it looked to be the only solution to getting a decent space MMO with Eve being the only one at the moment, and Dark Prophecy looks terrible. I guess there's Star Trek Online, but that doesn't look that hot either, and I'm not really into star trek that much.

Craaaaaaaaaaap )=. Looks like its back to fantasy then.

There is no way it will be released in next 12 months. If it gets released at all.

And even than it will be mere shell of what was expected.

My personal opinion is that there is such a small crowd to draw subs for a game like that ,it has literally no chance ,no matter how good it is.Even if it is better than EVE,witch is a very good chance since EVE imo is a very poor game,i doubt the EVE fanbois would acknowledge it and move over to JGE.

If there is ANY people sitting in the sidelines waiting for a game like that it is VERY few, they are already in EVE.Honestly i would be more than surprised if they could get 50k subs at peak.

I lose focus with games that i lost interest in,so i decided to read the interview done by MMORPG.

Definitely sketchy when you have FAMILY and friends test the game.I would more or less believe they tested a few ideas but the game is no where near ready to be tested as a game.

BRAND new producer, that tells you something again of the misdirection of  development.

That Lance guy even sounded boring when describing what the game will offer. It sounds in a nutshell like a very boring game.Boring quest after boring quest after boring quest. The ONLY real reason to play is to PVP,and they claim it will be fast paced,so in other words not much time to think, just button mash.

Lately i have been really bummed out at how badly games are ignoring content.Basically create a world throw in some boring ass quests and let them PVP.That IMO is NO content period. This game does not sound fun at all,i really am surprised at how long they are taking to deliver the game being as how it will have literally no content.

This game i am 100% positive will not be a rpg, massive i am also not sure,it is very much like EVE in it's purpose to play. They claim PVE will be enriched using the quests to follow a story line,i guess they really don't get the purpose of PVE,they actually think we relish the idea of doing another 500 boring quests ?.

Not to mention NetDevil's servers look to be borked atm (not the JGE ones, NetDevil's ones).

In regards to the PvE experience of JGE, Scorch recently showcased in a MMORPG.com interview (6:50 in) a new mechanic they got in place for missions (AKA Quests), that make it much more of a flowing experience rather then just taking one quest, going back taking another etc.

What was shown, was that whilst doing a mission the story will actually unfold whilst you are out in space rather then having to return to NPC to take new objectives.

So to give you example of what this might mean for the game experience for the player (Unfortunately the MMORPG.com interviewer didn't take the oppurtunity to ask what it will mean for the experience, and just agreed with what they saw):

You may get a mission to go scan a anomaly it a backwater sector in the middle of nowhere, and after you have scanned the anomaly and completed that objective, the story then continues with you being contacted out in space being told the findings of the scans and then being given another set of objectives (So basically another mission) in relation to what you just did, so perhaps after scanning the anomaly the findings detected recent use by pirates to sneak in construction materials.

So you then have to scout the sector to find haulers belonging to that pirate faction, and destroy afew to find out what they are carrying, and once you have enough samples to complete that objective your agent contacts you to inform you that another patrol has stumbled on something that may be connected to the materials, and you are then tasked with flying to a potential outpost when upon reaching that area you find a fully operational pirate station and are tasked with destroying that station.

---

So it's certainly doesn't seem like the average RPG/EVE case where you just take a mission with some random plot text, but instead missions are often rather extensive story arcs outlining the political/conflict situation of your nation or outlining events taking place in that region of space, but the important point is that it isn't doing quests for the sake of completing them for experience (Although I am sure some people will just see them as such if they want), but rather missions are about the story unfolding as you are out there.

You don't think there's anything amiss? I'm sat here wearing a red and white gingham dress, and army boots, you think that's un-amiss?

Becouse his long extensive experience with mmo's gives him the ability to foresee something, such as how fun a pve mission will be in a game.

I guess we just have to forget everything about JGE and move along...
