Cryptic Studios has confirmed to Videogamer.com that Star Trek Online is still set for "Stardate 2010" but in a window much earlier than many of us expected. Indeed, Star Trek Online will launch sometime in Q1 2010, and Cryptic Studios also confirms that beta is just around the corner. In a phone interview with Videogamer.com, Star Trek Online Executive Producer Craig Zinkievich said of the release date, "Without giving you the date, which I'm not allowed to give out or else the marketing people will come and smack me in the back of the head, I can tell you that the game will be out the first quarter of 2010." For the full story head on over to Videogamer.com. Michael "MikeB" Bitton |

Too slow, Avery beat you to it. But it is good news for sure, will be interesting to see how this game finally turns out after all the drama. |

All good, got to get on the twitter Mike! Making it post like this will send email to those on the list which is a good thing for those interested but might not follow the forums as much. Very much looking forward to the ST:O experience.

Forums threads =/= official MMORPG.com news stories. ;) Also, if you want us to be faster -- use the tip box and send us tips! We'll credit you in the story! We cover 400 games here, and as a result we're never going to be as fast as the dedicated fans from within each game community, so again, if you find a great story, please use the tip box and let us know! Thanks! EDIT: Tip Box is on the right side of the newsroom. Michael "MikeB" Bitton |

hopefully, they don't screw it up. People have been clamoring for this game since the previous company had rights to the franchise. I really hope they listen to their beta testers, because they didn't with Champions. I'm a huge Trekker so I am highly anticipating this game. Can't wait to beta test it and see what they have done. |

With the standard mmo developement delay that would put this title on track for the end of second quarter. Should make for a fun summer. |

This is going to be a mistake. You can't set a launch date when you haven't even started closed beta yet. It's just bad game design. At least, it is when you're setting a date of 6 months from before you start CB. This game is gonna get pushed out the door without enough polish, and I fear it'll suffer from the same problems Champions Online does. Bad move Cryptic. There might be some problems with are unforseen, but they should NOT take 6 months to fix and should be transparent really fast. I just however think devs trow there game into beta way to fast, for example when the game is not feature complete, then 6 months is indeed to short. |

Awesome, if this statement is sincere, this means that the game will be out in at most 6 months. |

Saying that the game will be out in Q1 2010 is not a time-line. That is a statement that the game will be out by then. If they said that they estimate that the game will be out in Q1 2010 then it is more of a timeline which are always estimates. |

@everyone complaining about the release date being too soon please complain to the PUBLISHER NOT the developer! Publishers decide the release date not the developer so get over to the ATARI! forums and start blasting them! FORUM http http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/index.php |

I like it! Time to clear my calendar weekends from end of febuary. And the realease time could work, since they (Cryptic) didn't need to invent the wheel again, just enhance it. |

I just hope they get it right instead of making it to fast with too many bugs, and then it dies due to the fact it is unplayable. I have been waiting for this game forever, and watched it die several times due to lack of bad developement planning. I for one dont want it quickly, I watched Fallen earth do that and it still crashes almost daily. As far as folks saying its not in beta, I filled out an ap a month back and still nothing. |

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Especially since Jumpgate Evolution is theorized to be coming out Q1 as well (not official). I know they are different kinds of games, but we havent had a good space MMO, heck even a good sci fi mmo in a very very long time. |
