Im not really an aion fan or anything but ive ben thinking about giving it a shot if the PVP doesnt suck.

What im looking for is:

Balanced. Mainly I want the classes to be balanced.(dont we all)

Skill Based. Meaning I would like that pvp be based on how well you play. I dont want it to be Class V Class, meaning an assassin(of very low-upper medium skill level) is always goin to be able to kill a Sorc(of very high skill level) just because of its class

Not Gear Based. Pretty mutch with the above I dont want gear to play a mega supper important role, it can have a role just not a wtfpwned cause i have 6 puples and u only have 4 type a role.(wtf pwned cause i have full puples and u have all whites i can deal with)

Reason to pvp. Im all for the pvp just because i want to test my skills against you, like in shooters, but something deeper with rewards and risk would be a bonus.

Think thats it.

By skill I mean the knowledge or the player, the reflexes, the strategy they use, and there all around ability as a PLAYER, not the CHARECTER or CLASS they play.

(hope that made sense)

EDIT: I forgot to add by people who actually play the game, reasonable level (ie have wings) and able to be objective.

If ignorance were bliss, the world would be a *much* happier place.

I think the PvP is pretty good.

It's balanced as a whole, not necessarily for one-on-one. That doesn't mean you can't beat one of your nemesis classes, but it's harder than say some that might seem easy pickings for you.

There's some skill involved--but mostly it's level based, and if levels are equal (and numbers), then I'd say a little skill, but mostly what matters is group tactics and a well-rounded group. Individual player skill is not a big determinant--just as in most MMOs.

Gear matters, levels matter a lot more. I can't say that gear matters more than skill in a one-on-one or even in a group encounter, though. Perhaps someone else knows. It's hard to say now as most people are not at cap or even near it, so there are so many variables involved it's too difficult to suss out what's a factor and what's not.

Reasons to PvP? You get abyss points, which you can use to buy really amazing gear someday. You get access to instances by holding fortresses that must be captured in PvP. And you get PvP ranks that if you're really high on, you get a transformation skill that basically allows you to become the equivalent of an instance boss mob.

Anyway, the game is pretty good--it's not the greatest thing since sliced bread and it is heavy on the grind. But the PvP is decent, the instances are okay (some aren't bad), the lore is okay, and the game works. Overall--partly because of the low standards we have to apply to MMOs--the game is good. I would like to see something better (like everyone else)--but this one is certainly adequate for now.

No matter what game you play, there you are.

The world is what it is. If you can find happiness within it, then you win. If you cannot, then you lose. Are you winning or losing?

38 Assassin here. I can maybe give some light on some of your questions.

It's hard to say if PvP is balanced because all that really matters is in endgame but in Korea the consensus is it is balanced and they believe the PvP is more skill based than WoW. It requires more timing and the pvp is faster paced, especially once you start stacking on your 20% run speed boots, attack speed gloves, attack speed/extendable weapon.

I can't see any class as being useless in PvP, all classes have their uses and are not left out. Some are stronger at different aspects than others but I have a hard time pointing out a class that is weak in general. Earlier I would have said Spiritmaster since there are only 2 SM's in the top 10's of all the servers in Korea (AP rankings) compared to Assassin's controlling 30%+ of those positions. Not because SIN's are especially good at pvp, but they are especially good at avoiding losing fights (stealth) and gaining opportunity kills against players at half life.

This game is slightly gear dependent in which you will have the required gear to do well with the bonuses they give. However skill is more important. With my Assassin I have to time my Focus Evasion to avoid Crowd Control and Aethertwisting for the same thing. These skills allow me to avoid 3 magic skills of my choice every 30 seconds. Along with that I need to make sure I can keep the enemy from escaping, timing my stuns to interrupt and executing my skills behind the opponent for greatest damage. This is all easier said than done and most players playing a SIN will make fatal mistakes that a well played Assassin would not.

I have chosen to stick to ground combat because SIN's can poison players in such a way they can't spread their wings and fly away. In the air a few of our primary skills don't work and the air not a place where the Assassin excels at. As I stated, each class has their strengths and weaknesses.

A good player will never participate in a Zerg unless he wants to lose tons of AP points.

Group PvP is where it is at.

As for Assasins, they have no in-combat stealth, and they cant stealth and stun lock someone. non-combat stealth is also temporary.

Improve Aion's Graphics with a simple text file that you can create by yourself:

-Increase in-game Field of View to 175% or more

-Increase view distance for players to 100 meters with camera at max distance

-Lots of other settings

Actually Assassin's do have in combat stealth. It's our 3K DP skill. Still, it's not always up. Non-combat stealth is also NOT temporary. We get a lvl 44 stigma I believe which gives us 4-5 minute stealth with a cooldown of 1 minute.

Best PVP MMO IMHO.

EVer since I hit level 25 I haven't left the Abyss, now level 31 with over 500 kills (never been in an alliance when taking a fort, sticks to my 6-man team, so all those kills were earned. I play a gladiator.

The game is balanced, from group PVP to 1vs1, although certain classes will have more difficulty on killing it's opponent, it's all about playing your class well. I see tons of  gladiators QQ about how they can't kill a SM/sorc/chanter/cleric/ranger, yet I kill those classes in 1v1 90% of the time, the other 10% is me fleeing and surviving. I even killed a sorc that was 4 levels above me with great gear just by outsmarting it KDed him, hid just under the tip of an abyss isle, he followed me but didn't take enough distance when hedid so and I raped his face.

The game is pretty gear dependent for certain classes, mostly TEmps and glads. Your level will affect things too, but if you're a good player, you can go against all odds usually. The most important thing in this game is the consumables. You need to stack on serums, mana pots, healing potions (to remove debuffs, which includes roots), wind serums, food and scrolls to be as effective as possible. They aren't needed, but those can turn the table on a fight.

I haven experienced it yet but am looking forward.. I watched someone playing couple last days in one lanparty and he got attacked by 3 others, i think asmos. Maybe they were lower than him but he took lots of hitting to bring him down. :P I liked that fact, because he was a tank class. And he escaped couple times really nicely.. Maybe good player or maybe the others were bad players. Dunno, the fact is that it looked like fun and am forward to see to it!

there is killing pve'ers in the abyss

there is killing pve'ers  threw a rift

there is zerging a fort and killing there

there is zerging a artifact

there is zerging a client crash  (happens a lot) login spot when they are taking a fort

there is some small random small group fights

and then there is pve'ing, which gives you abyss points too... so technically a person could be a "high rank" and have never killed a soul

oh and its a gank fest

best pvp in any mmo ever... not a chance

is it awful... no, its better then most offered out there

Honestly if you have played Warhammer you have played AION.

PvP is either gank(opponent doesn't have the slightest chance), get ganked(You have no chance), or zerg. You rarely get a 1v1, 2v2, etc that is even remotely fair. The even bigger problem is that it is so stupidly easy to just run away. I can't even begin to count the number of times I've gotten someone to 1/2 health and have them just fly away while using pots and a 30% speed boost so you'll never catch them.

There is also that gangland mentality. You bring 2 so we bring 4, so you get 12, and we get 30. If you can't get more, happens often since everyone is grinding, you just leave and don't come back.

So if you really like ganking or zergs than this is the game for you. Otherwise it is pretty awful and boring.

Also a tad more rock/paper/scissors than most PvP games.

That  reminds me of DAOC, big time. I just hope it doesnt devolve into 'ONly X class, X stigma, Xgodstone invite allowed"

Only zerging I have seen so far is during a fortress fight, but what else would you expect in that situation?   The rest of the time, PvP seems to be small scale.

as stated yes their is in-game stealth, it is a DP skill, as far as stun lock you don't really get those until lvl25 and the lvl28 bind rune I holds someone in the air for 1 minute if certain rune skills are set off right.

Sounds like you both hit the nail on the thumb and got owned. What you described is Open world PvP, there is a war going on in the abyss, venturing out alone is a high risk scenario. It's like taking a tour of Europe during World War 2.

If you have played Warhammer, you have not played Aion.

Aion > Warhammer by a large gap.

pvp is pvp at its maximum if your sleeping your dead ,if you quest and are solo your dead etc e etc etc

most never pvped as much as they will in this game once you reach abyss

if your shy unsure about pvp dont go in abyss but if you like to try your best at pvp this game can be very addictive
