A friend told me that if you now log into SWG, and your character was on one of the servers that SOE closed, you can have it transferred to a live server, but it'll cost you 50 bucks.  Is this accurate?

Yes, not counting a $15 dollar resub fee unless you have a free vet trial waiting int he wings.

Lol, wow, welcome back to SWG :P  Your server is now closed and it'll cost you a 50 to move to one that actually works.  I suppose if you pick one, and it happens to be empty, it'll cost you another 50 to move to one with people on it...

So yes after the servers are closed you will be charged to move them.

This week, SOE announced that it would be taking nearly half of the game's player servers offline on October 15. Beginning today, all players on the 12 affected servers have the opportunity to apply for a free transfer to one of the remaining 13 servers. Players who do not transfer their profiles by 5:00 p.m. PT on October 15 will lose access to their characters.

In light of the server consolidation, SOE was quick to point out that the game has a number of new enhancements in the pipeline. Over the next few months, the developer plans to roll out the Chronicle Master System, Death Troopers, and Galactic Civil War regions.

Servers poised to be shut down as part of the consolidation are listed below. A FAQ addressing the server closures and character transfers is available through SOE's Web site.

Come on! they gave enought time and advertisement to move it for free. I'm event surprised they give you the options to rescue your characters still after the servers are shut down.

Since the servers are being closed, and this isn't a transfer due to player preference, why charge a fee at all?

I guess if I were in charge of any of this I would have transfered all the Tons "in stasis" between the remaining servers. I mean, how hard would it be to just randomly place Toons onto a "living" server rather than let them (potentially) log in to a server that doesnt exist? Its insane- Really.

Even if they had a full YEAR to decide, if they havnt logged in and/or havnt made a selection yet- Place them on a Live Server anyways and if they bitch about the server they ended up on- Oh well... This is just $OE trying to get more milk from a dead cow.

Not an issue for since I always played on Starsider.. if I were to play atm.

However, I can't honestly think of a game I have played.. where when your server was closed you had to pay.

I know I would have never tried WAR again if I had.. to pay a fee.  Then again it wasn't worth the 15 bux either for the month I went back.

Shouldn't be any fee to get off of a server they decided to close.  Oh and perhaps some people are someplace they couldn't access the interenet to do so.. regardless of if its been a "while".

I don't really care.. it just seems a tad odd.

Heh, trust me, if they wasn't paying any attention now, they wont in the future. They missed Cupid Ewoks and Zombies, they should be thankful they don't have any knowledge of the games direction anymore. I don't see SWG living to much longer, imo.

Hmm. Don't most companies just automatically move your characters to live servers if there is a closure and you haven't picked a new one? Not that it really matters to me. I don't ever plan on playing again and my toon is on Lowca...

I received an email giving me 6 days notice, in total, of the upcoming server closures.  I believe the closures were announced on the forums only a few weeks ago, much to many people's surprise, since they said they had no plans to close the "transfer from" servers. 

If you don't read the official forums, and you didn't check your email spam for the last 6 days, you're in for a nasty surprise if you log into one of the closed servers.

Even with 6 days notice, or a few weeks on the forums, why charge a fee to move off of a server they are closing down?  Really?

I don't get the point of this thread, could somebody please explain. IS there any particular reason this is a surprise? Do you ever have any intentions in playing SWG , err, Left 4 WoW Galaxies again? If you did you were probably atleast checking in on it every now and then. Sometimes I think you guys get off on staying pissed, and pointing out every flaw with SoE. SoE sucks, yup, can we move on now.

Yeah, I got my email a month ago, not to mention, if your a regular to this site, it was also posted MANY MANY times. So there's really no excuse to complain.

look at the people who post the constant "my friend says...." or "i wanted to...." are always the same jaded vets who, after 5 years, still cant get over the fact the game is long dead, finit. People who have 0 interest playing seem to be the first ones who complain about the current developement cause they enjoy carrying a torch even though they will never touch the game again.

Come on! I hate SOE as much as the next disgruntled VET, and I pay little to ZERO attention to SWG, and even I knew about these transfers weeks ago, if not a few months.  I don't follow the official forums, and I don't read any emails from SOE, lol. 

I do check MMORPG.com at least once a week, and that's all it took really.  Sorry, can't feel sorry for anyone who has locked out characters at this point.  Frankly, I'm surprised SOE didn't wipe them out, all of them.

All current players know what is expected and what they need to do.

I had the feeling the intentions of this thread was to spark more anger towards SoE, at the same time I had hope it was for a more informative reason. Being a pre-cu player, I know what it feels like to have the game you put time and effort into, building communities and having that stripped away is never easy to put up with. But, what is healthy/productive about dragging up problems about the game anymore? Sure I poke fun at it, "Left 4 WoW Galaxies", but I see it more as comedy, I'm not taking anything serious. But damn guys, you knew this a few weeks back, if you had intentions of returning, it was not to play on an empty server, let's take the server removal out of the picture, do you see yourself basically playing alone? Considering SWG biggest and in my opinion, only strong point, community, I think the transfer would have been taken if you had intentions in playing again.

The rage is not false, its genuine.  Of course, like many others, I was very disgruntled with SOE destroying SWG.  I posted my rants and things but I slowly got over it. Just like when my cheating ex-wife and I divorced, I was pissed for a while then slowly moved on. However, every now and then she will do something (we've kids together) that brings back the memories, the fights and i get pissed all over again. I don't keep up with SOE or my ex at all but I still catch some news like this that reminds me of why I left that damnable game and now have extremely high hopes for the new sheriff in town SW:TOR

I will say that I'm glad to see them finally admit some defeat and combine servers.

P.S this is the first i've  heard of the server closings, and I hope my ex is paying for that crapfest.

Well all hate for $OE aside for the moment, $50 bucks is a pretty steep fee to transfer a character for any game.
