One thing I WILL agree with you abou though.. is the questing is the same ole standard "run of the mill". Nothing intuitive here... but neither does LOTRO, WoW, EQ, AoC, etc, etc. They ALL have this type of quest system. Maybe... JUST MAYBE... you don't like themepark based MMOs? If a game isn't fun from the begining, why would you keep playing past level 10? When I started with wow it was instant fun. In my mind Aion doesn't offer anything new that I can't get from playing wow. So I just don't see the point. I really tried giving it a chance, and I almost fooled myself. Lesson learned, I will play wow. I won't stop trying other games, but I won't actually kid myself that anything will be better than wow. |

Yes, that's right I got to about lvl 10 in your shit game and got bored, what of it? Frankly I'm quite surprised in this 16 page thread of how dull and boring Aion is that the average lvl of a person getting bored is 20-25, I would have thought it much earlier on. The whole fad of grinding to get to the end game of awesomeness is dying or has already died. If your making a game that's focusing on nothing but end game and everything up to that point is just shit then that just isn't gonna cut it these days, it's been done over and over and over. Companies need to get real and come up with something a bit more innovative and perhaps start using their fucking brains instead of putting an MMO together compromised of bits and pieces of other MMO's. Also, in case you couldn't catch the sarcasm of my prior post, I'll clarify, it was SARCASM.
Edit here: That's awesome you named some other games with similar quest systems. You listed a bunch of games that were out way before Aion so I'm unsure what your point is other than Aion does nothing new except throw in some wings, weeeeee! Currently Playing: Toying around with AoC and bored with Darkfall Thinking of Playing: Fallen Earth or Darkfall after this months update. Have Played: EQ1, EQ2, WoW, WAR, Vanguard, EvE, Requiem, PW, Lotro, Lineage2, AoC, SWG... |

Then its super simple... go play WoW? Really not all that hard... I played WoW for years - and I personally think its completely rubbish now (and was once an absolutely great game IMO)..
Aion is very different.. but if you're stuck in the mindset that nothing will be better than WoW - than simply nothing will. You had fun at level 6 in WoW? I'd love to ask what class you were that showed so much awesome. Lvl 1-10 in Aion is very similar to 1-10 in WoW. Both aren't all that enjoyable IMO... you will only get back what you give.... and if you give nothing don't expect to get anything back |

Like my boss always says... I hear lots of complaining but I don't see anything in the way of a solution. What would you suggest in a game? Since your so brilliant and NCSoft sucks major balls.... tell us - what masterpiece would YOU do in order to make MMOs' different? Apart from whats already done? Obviously - level based is COMPLETELY out of the question. So that leaves skill based... there's lots of skill based games out there (EVE Online, DarkFall, UO, etc)... if you like those - no one is stopping you from doing it. BUT - to say "Aion is trash" then say "I'm going back to play WoW" is just laughable at best... |

I agree with you, I never was able to play WoW longer than a week or two and I tried a couple times a year for the past 2 or 3 years. The boredom factor might not affect new players to the MMO genre as soon, but the people that have been around awhile are just tired of it and desire something new. Never once did I say I was brilliant nor that I had the answers that people were looking for, but it's pretty obvious that in life things get old after repetition and need to be altered or changed entirely. However the fact is it's not happening in this genre and it's turned into nothing more than a copy fest by companies and people that have been around since EQ, UO, DAOC etc.. are just tired of it. Some of you can say that well maybe we don't like the genre anymore or we have outgrown it. While maybe that's true for some, I would venture to say that it's not for most as we are here everyday waiting for that something new and we spend our spare time searching for something new. It's what we desire and what we deserve. Ultimately It's up to those in charge that are "qualified" to make those decisions and to use their brains and supposed talent to think up something new and not take the easy route and just copy what's already been done.
Edit here: I don't recall nor do I see anywhere that I mentioned WoW in any of my posts other than in my sig as a "have played", but here ya go. I don't play WoW and in the past since it's release I think I have maybe racked up a total of 30 hours of play time and that's probably on the high side. It's as much of a bore to me as Aion is. And i'm not stuck in a mindset. I'm not brainwashed, it's just my opinion. Classes in wow really don't matter that much in the lower levels, but if you want to know I mostly play the warrior class. I love the progressive character development and team-based aspects of wow. The progressive advancement is evident even from the start. First you wear grey gear, then get whites, greens, blues etc etc. It's very cleverly done. You can start doing dungeons around level 20 which gives you a first real taste of how to work in a team. Every aspect is tailored to be fun, rather than anything else. Remove any elements that might incur frustration or tedium. No company I know of is better at this than Blizzard. But some are starting to learn, like Valve with Left 4 dead. Also totally focused on gam eplay and fun. |

Well.... now we are getting somewhere! If you don't like games like WoW, EQ, LOTRO, etc - these are usually referred to as theme park MMOs btw - then its' completely natural that you don't like Aion. If I hated games like those, I would also find Aion to be quite boring. My boss ironically feels the same way - its exactly the same in ALL level based MMOs.
Here's where we differ though. I actually find leveling through the game an adventure.... and I quite like it! Aion isn't a rush to level cap for me. Im playing with a great guild, with my girlfriend and some of my RL buddies. We all love it... because its FUN! Even just grouping up and killing stuff - we enjoy that social aspect to the game as well.
For us though - we've all played WoW, LOTRO, etc... as I've listed above. So this is something thats new and polished that we can play and play something thats different. And yes.... Aion is very different from WoW - perhaps not 1-10 but the more you dive into Aion, the more you realize that it is much different than WoW is... The PVP in this game is so much better. Its funny - I read posts like (and not from you so don't be confused - Im not flaming) "Aion's PVP doesn't hold a Candle to WoWs PVP" and I just think to myself - it wouldn't matter if Aion allowed you to piss gold in real life, these people would still not play it and would still just play WoW. So, Im completely at a loss why they come on to these forums and complain that the game isn't WoW? I don't get it.... but what I can do is totally respect your opinion on theme-park MMOs that you simply don't like level-based type MMOs. They certainly aren't for everyone... P.S May I ask what MMO(s) you DO like?

Zorn, I get you love WoW, and thats fine. I also get whhy you would defend against the haters on a WoW forum to defend your game. That also would be fine. but why do you carry that on to other games forums here? Not flaming, but very interested... because right now the only reason I can see someone who is such a fan of one game to post on anothers the way that you do is if they feel somehow threatened by the other game... Hmmm, dude I started playing MMO's with EQ and it was amazing. I started playing EQ in like 1999 and didn't stop till like 2005. When it was all said and done I had 6 or 7 max lvl characters. EQ was one of the originals that games of today were built from as were DAOC, UO and a few others, but somewhere along the lines the games have gotten watered down and have become solely focused on "end game" with not much thought being given to what happens up until then. Now bringing back up risk vs reward, yah sometimes it was a grind in EQ, but it didn't matter cause the reward made it all worth it. Flashing back to camping Stormfeather in Iceclad for like 36+ hours straight for my "Eyepatch of Plunder", but man when I got that shit it didn't matter anymore how long I sat there waiting. It's just not there in games today, It's just a big race to max lvl to get to some part of the game that is actually enjoyable and people have grown tired and bored of this. |

I've been bored ever since UO. I bought AION to make me feel better about Darkfall and MO failing me. FACT is PVP in this game is fun SO FAR therefore Korean grindfest or not, going back to EQ2 or WAR is not the answer. |

People who are bored ...fine ... cant helpthinking a large % of you have never invested time into a mmog without being drip fed easy gear. Im 33 in aion, done zero crafting, very little exploring and i play a cleric. done hardly any quests. Happy to develop some legions and go through the leveling process whilst watching films and surfing the net. I can chat with others when i want to .. run some instances do a bit or a lot of pvp.. The early weeks are all about the hardcore levellers..try keep up with them when you have little prior knowledge ofthe game, the stamina and time to play stupid hours or an account sharing set up and you will just never keep up. Look for slower leveling players and youll find most tying to level as fast as possibile solo.
it is only after several weeks youll see the community starting to develop and people having time and inclination to chat and move the focus away from simply leveling asap. Going to be loads of players that cant handle the 0-50...nps .. makes it something moderately worth attaining

Yep Aion is just not fun past lvl 20 Personally have been playing Fallen Earth for 2 weeks now and just can't stop. It has a steep learning curve but just about everyone who plays it, loves it. (mind you the graphics aren't the best in FE)

I found Aion has the same problem for me as a lot of games released recently, it lacks the hook!
I dont find that I care about my character one way or the other, and this is important for me.
Also, the cleric rewards in sieges....wth were they thinking? The PvPvE is really just RvR with a different name.
I like aion, but my overall review would be:
Plenty of fluff, not enough stuff |

I hit lvl 19, did all the elite quests with my friend who was lvl 28. As a result I lost the xp to be gained when killing those mobs, which in a sense is quite normal; only with Aion there are not enough quests to compensate the xp loss and my only alternative to reach level 20 is either craft or grind (I still have 3/4 of my lvl 19 to up and I checked my "quests completed" log vs. internet quest list and I did all quests available at my level) => that's when I got bored. In addition, I feel like I am playing in a maze. You go from point A to point B, do some quests, then to point C, do some quests etc. I don't feel the "adventure experience" I felt when playing EQ2 for instance (even at low levels), with wide open spaces where you could wander around and discover some little dungeon, some npc or a rare mob; basically the essence of an MMORPG in my view... |
