Now, I haven't played every mmo so wondering if anyone knows if others are doing the "social network" things that LOTRO did.

Things like having a blog and friends list via their forums. I know that armory was around in WOW before LOTRO brought out its version where you can view what another character was wearing on logout. That part they did not come up with and it may be even older from another game? My experience was first seeing it in wow and they also had pvp boards linked from that for rankings.

Example

http://my.lotro.com/

I don't see it as a bad thing overall as long as you can opt out an stay anonymous as a default status and since you can already take sceenshots in-game we are one step away from taking videos in-game and uploading them to the sites on our little blogs. I predict it now if it doesn't exist somewhere :P

Are any other mmos offering up social networking space that you have seen or is LOTRO alone here testing the waters?

CCP is creating COSMOS, which will be a social networking feature that will eventually allow for interaction with the EVE client (such as managing skills), and will also help connect the communities of EVE and Dust 514.

Blizzard is developing their next version of battlenet to be much more of a social network. And as always Blizzard is doing most things right so I  guess it will be awesome.

There is a social networking site for Alganon.

Oh ya, vgplayers, that one was automatic, when you level in game it took a screenshot and sent it to the website automatically.

I remember someone saying at one point that it took the ui ss too and ppl were unhappy so now it just ignores that so that tells and such stay private.

Checked out a link for it on google, looks impresive - the amount of features they are shooting for.

hehe Maybe they might be busy with their new game to make it "awesome" but continuing development on wow to catch it up with the newer games that are investing in these things could keep their features current.

Turbine is adding the same thing in DDO but its currently only beta version http://my.ddo.com/

If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

Pft... nice to see LOTRO has social network OUT of the game, because it has zero INSIDE of it. =P
