Agreed OP im just glad i dident fall for this hype like i did with WAR and AOC.
I played the chinees beta / retail for about 3 weeks lvl1 to 10 was pretty fun 10-20 was "ok" lvl20-25 the grind slaps you in the face and from 25+ aion shows its true colors...i stopped playing @ lvl28 and canceld my preorder.

You guys have to come at this game from a different angle. It isnt about reaching the level cap first. You will fail, you will be bored, and you will have wasted money. Instead just enjoy leveling and crafting and pvp'ing and running instances. Guess what at level 50 you will have all aspects of the game covered at that point. From 41-42 it took approx 49 million exp to level. That is a very high amount. Traditional grinding will not work for most people unless they enjoy the repetitive tasking. You guys have to switch it up and not get burned out! MMO HISTORY |

Long thread.. Sheesh... I didn't read it all, as I got in on this late.. so it's likely that I'm about to say something that's already been said.... Here goes.... It seems like this comes up with EVERY new MMORPG, and it seems like every time anyone says it, they run back to another MMORPG that they dropped for the current one... Which leads me to question, if the common complaint is been there, done that, or this isn't anything new... Then why go back to the other game? You are going from been there done that, to.. well, been there done that.... That makes about as much sense to me as griping about it in the first place. |

Every person has his own way of having fun, a opinion of another won't help here at all. If people don't like the game from level 20+, then so be it. Saying it gets better in the end run is somewhat ridiculous. Some people also don't like S&M but do you tell them they should ignore the pain because in the end it will be fun?

You need to just have fun along the way or you ultimately will quit. If people can't do that they will end up quiting because this is not a game you can just go hard all the time and expect to make it to the level cap. Most will have lost their sanity. There is no need to jump off the deep end and compare my suggested approach to something as aberrant as S&M. People in pretty much every game play at a pace and scope that incorporates a wide variety of in game activities and keeps gameplay fresh. For those that have the stamina to power through to the level cap and are having fun then it is their decision and a lot of them are having fun. But for those who are struggling in the mid 30's and are asking for advice, I pointed out that for the majority of gamers out there tedious grinding of mobs and executing repetitive quests will not yield the desired results. I also did not say anywhere in my post that it gets better at high levels. In fact in my experience, like I pointed out, it doesn't (49 million exp to level). What I conveyed in my post was people need to find ways to have fun playing now or it is only going to get worse. The 40's are brutal and unforgiving and PvP can be just as vicious with all the ganking that occurs. MMO HISTORY |

Wow dude, are you that prudent too call people who like S&M sick? What the hell do you care what someone is doing in his privacy? Its not affecting you. People like you make me sick, labeling people. I only wanted to tell you that if something ain't fun why would you endure the pain to go on just because later on there is "fun". We talk about games here, they should be fun from the beginning, because tada it's entertainment.

The fun is just over that next hill. Just remember to walk up slowly and be quiet or it might hear us and run away. Hunting for fun. The latest trend in MMO's. |

Uh-oh...looks like we might be getting ready to have a Shills DeathMatch on our hands... *grabs the popcorn* My money is on the pro-Aion shill. He has better grammar, at least. Katsma is Lithuanian for 'he who drinks used douche fluid'. |

Aion made me unsub from WoW...and Aion. Must be MMO burnout for me. If I was recommending an MMO for a newcomer to the genre, I'd say Aion is an option - really fun character creation, nice graphics, decent classes. But, (like many have said) if I see one more "kill x number of fuzzies" quest I'm going to shoot myself. I can still enjoy jumping on an 80 WoW character for some pvp, but I simply can't digest any more grind right now... Translates to: Aion bored me to freaking death. Oh, and to the WoW-haters.. as juvenile as some of the trade chat can be, Aion's chat was far far worse - at least on the servers I tried. As always, getting a good guild and turning off general chat works wonders. But to suggest Aion players are somehow more sophisticated than WoW players is laughable. Same people - different game. |

Yeah, that MMOXE is some gold selling site. One of their cronies must have copied my post and if ya noticed, they put their website in there. I googled it, just a gold seller. |

Originally posted by Thillian Tried them all, not impressed. Without going into detail and adding to the negativity that most here like to spew, I'll just say that so far Aion is the game that has kept my attention the most. So far. I think most here cannot be satisfied period or they just can't deal with the current genres or MMO model that has been run through the ground. So new take or not they just can't deal with it anymore and are awaiting something completely different. Sure I can respect that, but I can't respect the constant negativity that everyone contributes in some lame attempt to try and sabotage potential subscribers...which is a lame attempt at best. What your not doing is changing the minds of developers by flaming every MMO that comes out. What you are doing is creating unrealistic expectations that cause games to come out over hyped and under developed. If you want change then people need to be giving constructive criticism on what is currently out there and provide insight and creative ideas on what the next gen of MMOs should contain. |

Same here. I had high hopes for Aion, had planned to buy it, and even started to get caught up in the hype, but after the Warhammer debacle I promised myself I'd wait at least a couple of months after a new MMO is released before playing it. That way they have time to fix major bugs/balance problems and let's the server populations sort themselves out. Plus it let's me find out how the community feels about it. Glad I waited this time. MMO games would be pretty cool if it weren't for the people. |

There are still a lot of people playing this game. Check it out for yourself. Most of the people that don't like it have left so their is little complaining. The gameplay has VERY VERY few bugs and balence is good since classes are mirroed across races. You might be suprised to see how much you like Aion now that a lot of "Weekend" mmo players have passed on. MMO HISTORY |

"Weekend mmo players"...I have no idea what this means or indeed what it does to support the game you enjoy, also how would the game be more enjoyable with less players, unless you mean the queue troubles to even play the game. Sorry but this sort of comment helps little to encourage new players, then again what do I know as I wont be subbing and thus just a "weekend" player. |

Now at level 26 I fully agree. I just cannot take the grind anymore. I LOVE the way the game looks and sounds. But the horrible quest XP payout, and the constant grinding to level up is simply not well thought out to have a nice progression through the game. I'm very let down at this point, and I simply cannot continue playing at this point. This is the second year in a row i've been let down by a MMO game (Last year was Warhammer). NcSoft has perfected the paid for grindfest, and I am sad because of it :-( |

I wasn't so much depressed with the grind aspect (which I knew would be there) as I have been with the obscene amount of bots and spammers.
I know it's a brand-new game, but it's out of control if you don't /block them.
I have already cancelled my sub due to this, but if they show they're serious about getting rid of the bots before the 37 days are up, I'll resub.

've played every MMO and with each new one, I find I'm quitting them faster than the one before it. I'm really not getting my hopes up for SWTOR and I'm a HUGE Bioware fanboy. I mean, I'm buying collector's editions of both Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 on both PC and 360.
On topic though, I also quit playing Aion at level 27 as a Spiritmaster. I never played this class in beta and it was pretty much my last choice to play as in the retail release. I really was enjoying my time with the game until I had to grind 3 hours for a spirit drop. Yeah, I've had my share of this experience (EQ1). I don't know what happened but I just got bored of the game. MMO gamers are a fickle bunch indeed.
Honestly, someone needs to kick this genre in the balls and step outside the box. I know companies see dollar signs in their eyes and they take the easy approach but Fallen Earth is the only MMO I'm subscribed to simply because it's not more of the same. |
