The title alone give's the idea, Suvival, in an MMO. Ridiculous, Right? Wrong, that would be a total change of pace. Safehouses or well towns, would be overrun every two hours or so. Players will either have to defend if it's a small wave, or run if it's a large wave. A progressive and adaptive style of gameplay. Hey, at least you'll always be on your toes. Give me your opinion, + Love it, or - Leave it. |

Left 4 Dead Online please unless Valve is going to milk it like Bungie/Microsoft did with Halo. |

Maybe if I'm going to have my Xfire profile up, I should start using Xfire... |
I think The Confinement Online might be getting at this. Not sure yet though. Still in an extremely limited alpha phase. |

+ Left 4 Dead is okay but it's not an MMO but something like L4D but on an even more massive scale would be just amazing. I would buy / P2P. |

A game every 2 years is too many? I don't think they milked Halo at all. They released several good games, and an RTS that was not made by bungie, but was part of the Halo story. ODST might be considered milking it due to the shorter game, but it does have all the map packs, and if you never cared to buy those packs then it is worth the money. Bungie does put a lot of effort into their games and perfecting the controls and multiplayer, and I believe they deserve credit for what they created. Might not be everyones favorite type of game, but I for one still prefer the feel of the multpayer over something like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Plus Bungie left Microsoft a while ago so they would have more freedom and make the games they want to. |

great idea i say, me and few friends were actually going to develop a zombie survival mmo, our plans for it were great a game with skill leveling and your pretty much out in the world running from zombies you could team up and hide away and use your team mates skills to your advantage like boarding up windows, or starting fires and being able to cook food, we didnt aim to make zombie mmo but a realistic zombie survival simulator that was online it would have been great to make im sure the community would of loved the idea when they saw the game themselves but we didnt have enough funding and our team started to fall apart, maybe one day a game with such a genre would come out but who knows |

Sounds like a great idea, the only problem: Its something New. Nowadays developers only see $$ so they aim toward that audience. |

Well, I guess it would be nice although even in L4D, getting another 3 people on public server that aren't simply bad is already hard like hell. Comparing MMOs with burger companies-the epitome of logic. |

Needs work.
Ok, so I kill some zombies. Then I run to a safe house, and zombies attack me. So I kill some more zombies. Then, more zombies attack me, a lot more, so I run to a safe house. And Zombies attack me so I kill some more zombies. Then, more zombies attack me, a lot more, so I runt to a safe house. Then... Well you get the idea. This is what you need for zombies:

i think it would be a great idea i lovef l4d till my friends and i beat the game for the ??th time then it got a little boring, but i bet if they were to make an mmo like that with an open world it would be pretty fun, awhile back my friends and i heard about a game that was suppose to be like that but it was cancelled i think it was called city of the dead or somthing it was in a gaming mag but that was a few years back. i think any survival horror type game would be fun to play. |

I would love to see this, the tactical element could certainly add a layer of complexity over the current generation of MMOs. The posibilities are endless, you could not only incorporate fps and rts elements into the mix, but have a game that would develop over time based on the cumulative actions of players... The sad thing is i dont see this coming anytime soon. Setting is an issue, youd need to find a good way to allow for necesary MMO elements without delving too deep into scifi or fantasy. Res is a good example as permadeath puts too heavy a burden on char progression, i dont think scifis current cloning solution would do, while fantasys "ghost" system would very likely take away from the scenario. Perhaps players who are themselves some sort of self aware undead and fight to keep normal humans alive? Diferent reactions to the "plague" as well as oposing views regarding survival could make for good RvR and add depth to this element storywise. Also, game mechanics would need to walk a fine line in between fps combat style (which best captures the thrill of the zombie genre) and traditional MMO solutions. Personally i like Teras system over Fallen Earths but the point remains you cant go too much in the direction of action oriented battles without risking turning the game into a de facto fps or other sort of MMOG. This could be a good oportunity however to ditch the tank/healer/dps system and look for more dynamic group play styles. You would need someone with a strong vission and the rare talent to come up with something that at least a significant niche audience would apreciate. Since good ideas on the two elements ive mentioned (setting and mechanics) will face extraordinary challenges (theyre too easy to execute poorly) and the unfamiliar is rarely succesful in this genre, its not likely we will see anything like this on the short to midterm (next 5-6 years) despite the concepts obvious apeal. Its a shame really, i do hope that whenever this gets made it will be done right... Just to make things clear... |

LOVE IT! Would be a change of pace. Especially if it didn't have levels, you were measured by your survival time that could be kept track of on the game's official boards. How about if you even had the option of if your character died to zombies, you could either start over with a time reset for your character, or play AS a zombie and hunt other players.
And the zombies have to have normal run speed...none of that limbering along like a sloth BS. |

I think FPS doesn't capture any genre particularly. FPS works great for....first person shooter games. RPG combat works great for...role playing games. Setting is immaterial, sci fi, fantasy, zombie, horror, etc. Star craft is a great science fiction setting, but has nothing to do with first person shooter controls even though the men you control all shoot laser guns of some sort. On the other hand, Star Wars has some great first person shooter games, and the character you control shoots a blaster, etc. Genre doesn't control whether FPS or RTS or RPG is right for the game. If you like first person shooter games nothing wrong with that, I like to play them too. But a zombie RTS or RPG works just as well as a zombie FPS. |

Come on dude, first person SHOOTERs dont capture the zombie genre best? So Left4dead, Resident Evil and House of Dead (just to name a few) are rare successes when the closest MMOs have come to doing it right is stuff like Requiem and FE. I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this. I like 3rd party perspective better but IMO it really isnt fun to hack your way through undead with machetes and chainsaws for more than a few hours, you need guns. And hordes of zombies dont really work well with a tanker/healer team... You do make a good point and although i agree with you on principle, the zombie genre has basically become about fast paced action. Really MMOs arent about that so yea, if theyre doing zombies i would expect something different. Just to make things clear... |

I would love a dawn of the dead or land of the dead style mmo. Different kind of scenerio that you play your human until he or she gets bitten and turns and then play as a zombie until you get squashed. Completely do away with the notion of dying over and over and over and keep respawning. Yes, i know griefing deaths would cause a problem but oh well. Missions/quests could involve clearing and securing bases of operation and refuge, search and rescue, resource gathering and just basic survival. Tradeskills could include ammunition and weapon crafting, farming, pharmecuticals and fill in the blank. Server ruleset could include pve (where friendly fire is off to prevent griefing), pvp which could be some of the most intense king of the hill type life. Many viable areas to focus the game. Places like Cleveland or Detroit, as they have varying styles and landscapes and have access to islands that could act as player housing and whatnot.
I think someone needs to get George Romero to sign off on this and get it started!! |
