According to a report over at MTV News, Sam Raimi has tapped "Saving Private Ryan" screenwriter Robert Rodat to pen the upcoming Warcraft live-action movie. The article also features an audio interview with Raimi where he speaks briefly about the film.

Raimi on the film, and Rodat's involvement:

"We want to be really faithful to the game...to the Horde and the Alliance and the mythology that takes place in the game, and the archetypes that the game presents. I think we would try and find touchstones within the game to make it accurate and true and choose one or some of the lands that are portrayed in the game with as much accuracy and authenticity as possible.

"But we would have our writer, Robert Rodat, really craft an original story within that world that feels like a 'World of WarCraft' adventure. Only obviously it's very different 'cause it's expanded and translated into the world of a motion picture."

im gonna catch some crap for saying this.

but i hate sam raimi with a passion......

dont get me wrong, he made some great movies.  but after watching drag me to hell i realized something.  his best movies werent great because of his work.  they were great because of the actors that carried him

lets look at the facts.....

bruce campbell..  the best chin in hollywood.  one of the best leading men ever imho.  funny as shit, brings with him his own flair and signature.  pretty much dominates every scene hes in.   the evil dead movies were great.  but we have to ask ourselves... why?

it wasnt the cheesy camera angles or low tech special effects.  what we remember most, is bruce's brilliant physical acting and comedy.

lucy lawless also carried him with xena.  as did toby mcguire with spider man.

but spider man 3, he really showed how badly his professional choices can effect a film and script.

so heres how i figure drag me to hell got made.  im willing to bet it probably went something like this....

sam raimi: man people are really pissed off about what happened in spidey 3...  all my fans hate me

ted raimi: well... you made peter parker emo and you got the dude from that 70's show to be venom.  i dont blame them for hating you, i hate you too.

sam raimi: i know what ill do..  people loved me when i did those evil dead movies.  maybe i should just do them again.  but this time.... get this.... WITH A CHICK

ted raimi: ......

drag me to hell was simply just another evil dead movie.  tailor made to "please the fans".  im sorry but i saw right thru it.  i was really looking forward to it too.  but really.  i felt like id been had...

something as cool as the warcraft universe shouldnt be handled by raimi.  i really think its going to suck.  they should have gotten Neill Blomkamp to do it.  It would have been so epic.  that man could really make the warcraft universe come to life.  add his close ties to weta and peter jackson and you would have had nothing but win.....

Games i'm playing right now...

the thing is Raimi is only directing...the script will be Saving Private Ryan so the question is

Actors?
