Tbc, I am NOT saying every post that dosent like Aion is a paid shill, or the fake alt account of the same guy attempting to protect his own little game, but it's obvious the majority are.

MMORPG policy states that we as users are not allowed to call out Shills, yet they themselves do nothing about it. I wish they would understand that shilling destroys the integrity and value of a games forum and makes it just worthless white noise junk.

I understand that Mods here are volunteers and have their own agendas in how they police the site, but c'mon... MMORPG.coms rep isnt the greatest out there anyhow, but allowing yourselves to be so heavily used as a viral marketing platform is giving it the final flush down the shitter.

WoW has it's merits. So does EvE, FFXI, AoC, WAR, and Aion. Why does it always have to be "X game SUCKS" or "Y game iz teh leet pwnerz" with people?

I think you missed the point a bit...

Though it can mean to be paid to haunt forums to positively manipulate opinions on your chosen product, it also means to do the same in a negative manner. Creating a bad vibe about a new MMORPG is an established tactic of every company that has a product in the same market space. I am talking about the second type here.

I also have been personally warned about using the 'S' word in the past, while the obvious shills were left untouched, which speaks volumes to me.

yep its true mmorpg try to stay as neutral in the forum as possible and sometime it some post get very heated debate indeed 

but its better that way in the long run

only time mmorpg step in is bad behavior or derailling the title post 

but aside from that if its stays fair ,you get pretty heated debate on some subject here

Trust me, I play Aion and enjoy it, but its game play design and some features are not going to be appealing to a number of gamers and they're going to come to forums like these and slam the game.

I mean heck, look how many people slam EVE and for the life of me I can't figure out why, I love the game.

Different strokes for different folks, but its a bit paranoid to think there's active campaigns being mounted against games.

 Sadly the rabid fanbois and trolls are not paid viral marketers (well the majority aren't anyway). They go on the attacks out of some weird sense of loyalty to a company or a game. Said loyalties usually shift to whatever the current flavor of the month is.

I do- but its muss less common than "Buzz Marketers" who are hired to blast Forums with good reviews and opinions (they often have 'Forum Mods' do "Buzz marketing tactics during their shifts- HI KIARA)

Forum Mods in the USA make $16-17/hr (this comes from an advert from Turbine looking for Mods on LOTRO so I am taking this as a base Average) and in "other" countries (namely India) there is vast English speaking pop who will work for far less- Being a Forum Mod (and having more than one per shift) is not a particularly 'time intensive' job (most of the time) and they can easily Moderate New Post's from a second window while 'surfing'- AND their employer knows this (and I am sure takes advantage of spreading "word of mouth" advertising for essentially free- OR to bash other games)...

I KNOW S.O.E. does this- Its up to you to believe what you will and take opinions for what you will- But this does go on and is much more common than you may believe.

I know for a fact that companies use this method of viral promoting/ slandering, because I was offered a job to do it.

You don't have to belive that, I couldnt care, and no I am not gonna give any details etc, but I know.

You say paranoid, I say naive.

I don't think they are actually shills.  I think people get "caught up" in the game they play and feel protective of it.  Some go so far as to blindly proclaim its dominance without any evidence to back it up.   Paid shills are far and few between these days, I believe.  I think mostly we have a lot of fanboys.
