Now that he honeymoon is over,  do you still believe Aion will be a big game in the US and EU?   Also, what do you feel NCSoft needs to do to make it better in the future so that Aion will be a good game worth playing?

Depends on what you define as a "big game".  If you are speaking of WoW big, no, but it does look like a good contender for the 3rd or even the second seat.

It's a Jeep thing. . .

I knew how this thing would turn out at the end of OB.  I doubt it will turn out as badly as WAR, perhaps doing mildly better than AoC, but not as good as EVE, subscription-wise, and not even in the same solar system as WoW.

in europe its a big success ,in usa its very very soso,a lot cant have access to time card or pre-paid credit card so this become a big limiting factor ,and most want it to be like fury (not gona hppen)and to top it all off a lot are burned from previous game and are scared to jump in

lot of player are like me in usa ,we own a copy of aoc,war etc and most died very quickly in usa so

those that will make this game popular are still on the side waiting to make sure game doesnt die on then like tabula rasa

or dungeon runner

Which is different than pre-launch, where everyone was saying this game would be incredible.  Now that it's out, people see that it's a crap game.  Maybe when you get past level 15, and the 'ooh-shiny-new' wears off, you'll see it for what it is.

Yes if the developers are quick and patch in more fun stats, items, skill specialisation, variation in quests, variation in mobs and more connect between the quest xp and the grind xp.

No if they just are gonna bore ppl to death with endless monotone grind.

I guess the question is, who are #2-5 on the MMO list.... and what are THEIR numbers. Everyon quotes WoW... but I dont see much discussion about anyone else.

1] You no longer play aion if you ever did

2] That's just a sig I like it's colors and how it looks since dunno why when I try to show my xfire it doesn't show.

3] There are people that hate anime (like you), are so in love with X game that want to bash all other games or hate korean people so their games must suck so you can't really expect a real poll here.

I voted no not because I hate the game ,but the game isnt any different or ground breaking. Aspects of the game were cool, but nothing to keep me subbing to It. It just didnt fell all that special to me.

Cool stuff: good graphics, flying (when you can), PVP, PVE was decent, good crafting

Not so Cool stuff: Que times, Gold sellers spamming chat channels with little done about it, not any better than the other fantasy mmo's out there, grind was horrible

this is just from my experience

Interesting Poll question along with even more interesting percentages!

I think all games have a grind to them that uses leveling as a means of progression.  It's interesting that I wrote that first.  But it shows that I am getting older and getting more tired of grind grind grind..  So in general MMORPG are being less apealing to me.

AION however gives me pause to the point where I can endure the grind because it's so well polished.  The graphics are incredible, the quests being tied into the maps and quest log is a nice change from the old EQ1 days.  The story line seems intruiging and for the first time in several years, I feel like I am actually have fun again.  I am only lvl 20 and I have seen several racing past me but I am content to take my time and smell the roses on this one.

This is the first game, where when I walk to the edge of a cliff, it actually sends shivers through my body in RL in fear of falling.. That says alot in itself.. Incredibly more, flying with the wings is becoming second nature.

Often I find myself running through a continent (notice I didn't say zone) and looking behind me and noticing that I missed all the content.. It's incredible how much detail has gone into it.  Last night I spent a good 30 minutes in one spot, looking at my surroundings, at the detail..

So does this make me a fan boy ? perhaps so!

I voted yes, not because it's a great game.  But it's for sure #2-5 on the subscription number in the western market.  How could you say #2-5 is a bad number?  Not to mention internationally, it's #2 in subscription number.

I wasn't expecting it to be when I leveled my first toon in "closed" beta; it suffers from a lack of content, a harsh grind (compared to newer games), uninspiring combat mechanics and most of all NCSoft's diffidence.

When you log into this game you're inundated by seas of smileys, hearts and any other obnoxious icon you can think of in the looking for group channel by spammers: The first 5 minutes of the game will be spent blocking them, then you will have to contend with the bots for your quest mobs (especially on the repeatable quests with huge rewards).

Age of Conan also suffered from a lack of content, but unlike Aion it had some innovation to it: Aion's combat is something almost directly taken from WoW with quite a few classes being  isomorphic as well (take for instance the sorcerer vs. mage, or spiritmaster vs. warlock ); nothing new was really added and the flying (city of heroes did this first arguably) is so restricted that it might as well not be in the game.

All of that having been typed, I'm actually enjoying myself at level 26, but I've a great deal of tolerance for grind having played FFXI and other abominations, so I don't think that the average player hailing from WoW would stick to it.

For somebody who is sick of WoW, I could see this as maybe being an alternative, but to a new player WoW just has so much more to offer in terms of content, exploration, immersion and character skill customization (another joke in this game).

The best things Aion has going for it are graphics, performance and it's catchy soundtrack.

The next game that will be big in america, will make levling alot more fun to get through the grind. Aion, is very grindy, which is ok, but its very static and doesnt change. I cant do that for 30 levels!! I think you all know how i voted, lol

I remember that too. What makes Aion's situation different from WoW's, however, is that it does not lack competition in any shape or form: There are loads of slightly older games with much more content and new ones that boast more innovative features.

WoW, at launch, did not have PvP implemented, or even any of it's (then) infamous raid instances, yet it still had more to boast than Aion, since it delivered on more levels than any of it's competitors did at the time.

I honestly dont see where Aion can fail really, it has great gameplay, a grand variety of objectives in Open pvp with meaning to the world around, beautifull graphics, many pve objectives in world bosses, dungeons and fortress bosses, a very stable client among many other.

The only downside as of now is a bit more grind than ppl are used to, but that is being adress on the next patch that will significantly reduce it.

Time will tell for sure, but i honestly dont see why all the hate towards a game

Ya but I just dont' see Aion's number getting higher in a few years with other Korean Title being released.  Tera, Blade & soul... etc

And unlike western game company, most asian game company are making money due to lower operation cost in developing their games.  So we'll keep seeing many Aion clone in the years to come.

I think the game will hold a good amount of people, it's not gonna be for everyone of course but it could be eventually.  Their launch wasn't as bad as some made it out to be (even though there were some things i didn't like that NC did), people are having fun with it, so perhaps word of mouth and some nice patches coming up will stimulate it even more.

This game is very successful overall, just like we don't discount the subs in china and other places for Warcraft we shouldn't discount Aions success overseas.

These games develop over time, people expect to much right away anymore. =)

Here you go;  essentially 5 pages worth of people, that are already bored.

Not even out the gate a month, and people are already complaining about being bored.  *That* is how it can fail.
