Quite a while ago I made thread about how FFXIV was like Vanguard on Steroids, a somewhat derogatory statement towards FF XIV.

Some of you got very upset with me about It and felt like I was attacking the game. Well, I am sorry about that.

I never outright flamed the game, as subjectively speaking ''Vanguard on Steroids'' is not necessarily an offensive statement depending on how you look at It. But I do realize a lot of you were upset by that statement and I do apologize for writing that.

I was basically surprised when I saw some of the first actual gameplay videos ever of FF XIV and for some reason one of the first thoughts that came to my head about the game was ''Vanguard on Steroids'' I by no means meant that the game looked like crap or anything but It didn't seem for me at the time,  at least at that time where my mind was focused ( Sorry , Kind of hard to explain. )

As some of you may know before that post I had high hopes for XIV and made quite a few positive threads / posts.

The way my mind was focused back when I posted that thread, It was not in congruency with XIV's graphic style, gameplay mechanics etc.

I still have hopes for the game and would like to keep my opinion open until come release and I actually play It a good amount before even saying a word about any of It's mechanics or style judgementally.

So on behalf of the MMORPG.com community, I'm sorry and hope you guys can forgive me.

Here's to a good journey and an open adventure when XIV comes out.

pfft you don't need to apologize,you are entitled to your own opinions.

On your theme of VG however,they seem to be taking an idea from VG and that is the "tool" idea.That is how Vanguard crafting was done,you have more than one choice of tool.It will be interesting to see if they also use different clothes for crafting as did VG.

As for looking anything like VG,they are totally different graphic styles/texture compression.

You shouldn't apologize. These forums are supposed to be used to DISCUSS about games. Unfortunately some games, belonging to a series of games, gather extraordinary amount of fanboys. This forum is a such sad example and there are plenty of other games too (for example GW2).

Those fanboys see nothing but trolls (although they're more like a big group of trolls themselves). Even a simple critical comment or question about the game they like gives you a status of "troll". They're the majority in their forum so it's natural that no one else except them can enjoy their stay in the forum.

Yeah no need to apologise (not that you aren't gaining respect points for doing so) but indeed vanguard had some good ideas, maybe some pretty bad execution, but good ideas non the less (personally I think the game was a bit lacking focus).

There's nothing wrong with building on the shoulders of past games, the tool system for example, i'm familiar with from MonsterHunter, a very popular game that i'd love to play in an mmo format (and it seems XIV is the closest thing on the horizon)

I don't think I took part in that convo either as I did not play VG and would not have understood much... someone made a great post explaining similarities and differences on the thread though- I read that. . It made me wiki VG and I learnt it had a lot of good features that never turned out as well as they could have. Your comment, if I remember correctly, did seem somewhat inflammatory(sp) so thanks for being considerate.

Hope to read some more of your opinions on the forums. And maybe see you in game one day :P
