I for one am very excited and if they make this game P2P or F2P am more than willing to contribute my share.  The .hack series on the ps2 was one of my favorite games of all times. Since .hack//fragment came out in Japan and US and EU players got robbed of the online experience I felt very left out, thanks to these guys we may just see it happen in the next 2 years.

When you have hydrospanner everything needs to be torqued.

I agree it would be great to finaly see the franchise on PC so it would seem more like an online game instead of feeling like a RPG of an online game not to say I didn't play most of the releases in the US.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

+1 this is exactly what I thought.

I mean, the idea of actually making a "The World" is awesome but the graphics are......It feels like I'd be playing DOOM or something.

Wow this looks worse than some Nintendo 64 environments.

Ewww...anyone got a towel? I think some of those graphics got on me.

In all seriousness though, those need to be some very alpha type graphics. I don't see this game going farther than a handful of fans for a very limited amount of time otherwise.

Just so you guys know this is not some major company with a large budget or a publisher, this is basically a group of volunteers, and fans working on a project. Hoping to maybe become a successful mmorpg and then maybe develop as a strong company from there.  They currently have 8 people working on the game.  I believe based on the comments on their main site that the main guy running the project is only 19-20 years old as well.

If I was a major in computers or design I would be more than willing to provide my services for free. I decided to major in psychology so for that the most I can do is provide a large donation. They are working hard to please the fans, something that Bandai never did.

I dunno.. 'the world' was only interesting because there was something wrong with it, and because you were part of that story as it went.  If you took all that out then what's left would just be awful.

Good series though, I enjoyed playing them.

Good to see that player passion for a better MMO shines on!

You don't "hope" to "maybe" become a successful MMORPG, and you certainly don't put your cart in front of the horse...

Fascinating little fan project, but little chance of being much more than a 4-hour stimpack of nostalgic for fans of the anime.

It's pretty cool that these guys are working on The World, but it really does amaze me that a series can make such a franchise for itself such as .hack has and not have any big wig game dev/prod companies even slightly interested in it. I mean we not only have several anime series, //sign, something twilight and the ovas and whatever else has come out since i lost interest - then the video games which had the original 4 (i think) and then GU..and no takers? You would think people would have been all over the idea years ago while it was still in it's height of popularity.

What made it interesting for me was the steryotiped players personalities behind their characters behaviours.

"The World" itself seemed very uninteresting, like a second rate f2p mmorpg.

Still, got me curious about it, maybe they will inovate. Wich I doubt.

I Love the Holy Warrior Archtype

Woot> I dont expect anything near WoW's lvls, but at least I hope for both PvP and PvE in this game.

Both at least better then Guild Wars.  No Small Scale PvP. If Instanced, At least 30 v 30 or something large like that.

Well...  I give my kudos to the guys working on it, but I don't think they're expecting a large population.  Probably just a game to get them started and get more experienced in that line of work.

A shame though.  If a reputable developer made a .hack MMO, I'd be all over it like middle aged ladies at a half off lingerie sale.  Love that franchise.  The anime aren't too shabby as well.

I never understand why people want a dothack mmorpg so badly.

I only played the first game in the franchise and watched a few episodes of the anime, but there is nothing this game really offers that you can't get already. The reason why dothack was so interesting was because of it's fiction storyline and unique perspective on the actual players of an mmorpg, not the game itself.

The game itself, if you take away all the virus and corrupted things and such, was just a game where you go to a dungeon with 2 other players, get the loot from the chest and repeat.

There is nothing else to it.

if dothacks actual gameplay setup sounds interesting to you, you should consider trying Phantasy Star Universe. It's as close to dothack as you can get.

Yeah, this basically sums up my stance from the previous "zomg they need to make a .hack MMORPG!" thread.

God , what were they thinking...

World of Warcraft is a proof that MMORPG quality should affect schedule/budget and not the other way around.

It sounds like these guys aren't Bandai or CC2 (the *real* Cyber Connect) and aren't licensed by them either. My bets is that they'll be hearing from a lawyer whenever Bandai actually hears about them.

I think it will depend how many players they get. If it becomes big, they will surely be shut down.

If they remain small, I don't think Namco Bandai is going to care much. There are free fan made mmorpgs of all kinds of things like Dragon Ball, Naruto, Pokemon and much more.

Its pretty much what gameloading said on this first repply.

.Hack was popular not because the mmorpg world where things took place, that was very bland and weak, it was nothing but a setting.

What mattered in .hack was the players behind the characters. The anime contrasted virtual vs reality very well, giving enphasis on the characters vivid colors, while removing the visual focus on the real players and their lives, while AT ALL THE TIME showing the players personalities, behaviours, fears, etc in a very steryotiped IN YOUR FACE way.

Its might impress people at the first time they see a link between the player's real life status and the contrast with his character status.

"oh, the uber character is shared by 3 average high school girls"

"oh! the scary pk is a twelve year old kid!"

"oh, who would have wondered this community leader was in a deficient in a wheel chair"

"oh! this character plays to condense the relationship issues with his son"

"oh! the mischeavous mage is an anti-social girl"

After you watch .hack and notice it for what is is, there is nothing left that would JUSTIFY AN MMORPG.

Now only if characters who died in the .hack mmorpg  would also die in real life! :D

See? Move on.

a .hack mmo would be nice if all the classes from the game are available and if  te game retains all of the appealing aspects of the series and an added bonus would be Xth form evolution quests for all the classes
