seriously, i know western developers usual have horrific animation when it comes to combat but this is terrible, static.. and boring looking.. the space combat looks terrific in comparison.. watch any of the ground unit combats.. they are ugly ass hell too, typical of western games... something needs to change! it looks like a laggy pc game from the 90's |

They are just now getting into polishing the ground combat. Cryptic wanted to nail down the space combat before they dove head first into the gound game. |

Which ground combat video are you watching?
I played STO at PAX and it was very smooth, especially relative to other MMOs in development. I also played every other MMO there, so i have a good comparison. If you're benchmark is Aion (a non-western MMO), I'd say that STO's combat is much more active and enjoyable. Aion is a little more polished and smooth, but it is also released, where as STO is still in development.

lol ricefarmer, get real, an MMORPG with same graphics and mechanics as gears of war? hmm, maybe in 2015, but not any sooner -.-..... i don't say asian game sucks i don't say western game sucks, i do know that WoW is the best earning MMORPG out there, which is western, lol , :P. i personally dont like asian settings but that doesn't mean the games aren't good. i played Aion chinese open beta, i enjoyed the gameplay but i just hate the setting.... as for SW:ToR, did you even watch the PAX09 Trooper video? its far from flashy, pretty good for an MMO even, in my opinion. star trek space gameplay looks good so far, but the ground combat looks as if its from the year 0...
(ps. the most memorable western character from MMO's, i think like everyone knows Arthas, i mean, even my mother knows him... lol )

I hope Cryptic looks into this so they don't have a repeat of Pirates of the Burning Sea. Another game with reasonably strong ship combat, weak ground combat and missions that forced you onto the ground when you didn't want to be there. |

Fried, i am sure to the OP it will be. Since they are expecting something impossible. They are building games for what most people, with average computer systems, can play on. Yes it will look a lot like all the other western MMO games. You can only do so much and expect it to run on the systems that most people have. So, until we all have built in super computers in our heads, yes, most of the games will work with the current hardware:) And so look a lot alike. |

maybe i was asking too much, but the animation is really bad! and maybe its an unfair comparison to korean games cuz they are a tiny country wired up the ass and an infrastructure built for the future. but its not asking much when it suppose to be next gen to get some decent animation, i know for a fact animation shouldn't be that intensive to the bandwidth because its still technically a turn base game like every other mmo. everyone defending the west always goes back to good old blizzard as a standard for the west... we know blizzard aint exactly a typical company.. and we know games out of the west aint blizzard... so naming 1 company to represent all west is stupid. why can't western companies be like blizzard? beatiful art direction, animation.. memorable characters..

Yep, what we need are graphics featuring 12 yr old asian girls and starships that use rice in the warp core. Truth is if youve seen one asian grinder youve seen them all. Lots of flash and no substance. There is a reason why 90% of them are F2P. |

Its pretty well known that asia has more than its share of child prostitution, especially Korea, and that perversion is reinforced by the female character models used for most asian grinders.
