Ahh!! Dana Started a Zombie Survival thread and I'm late to the party!? Preposterous! This is the game I've been waiting for. My life will never be fulfilled if I don't get to play a Zombie Survival MMO. I'm so desperate, I'm even trying to make one myself. This type of game is LONG overdue. This is exactly how it should be made. Although one point I disagree with you on Dana, is urban areas even resembling safe zones. That's highly unrealistic. Cities would have such a high concentration of infected AND desperate, even psychotic survivors, it would be a war zone. A concrete jungle. No man's land. Or should I say, dead man's land? That might be a decent title. Other than that, you're spot on. |

I was thinking Running of the Dead or with or from, but Dead Man's Land sounds cool. Also, the conversation has only petered down, I think a couple of us are still watching it, I know I am. I've also thought up a few other tidbits about the game, but it's still in the dreaming stage of it all in my head. |

Hello! Brand new member here! Anyways I came across this thread and I just knew it had to be the first one I would go to. A survival horror MMORPG would be a dream come true for me. It's a fresh idea that can could in fact bring new features to the MMO experience or simply build upon and improve the game genre. I saw that some of you have begun writing up notes about it, I would love to help with that. I'm no programmer or anything of the sort. But I'm a good idealist, and story writer. Ive already begun writing some notes of my own concerning gameplay, experiennce, character death, etc...and would certainly enjoy charing ideas. I'll post some of my ideas soon (I have to go searching for the document in the amazon that is my computer database). |

Yay I found the document. Something along the lines of most MMOs right now would suffice. A HP and “MP” meters would do fine. MP can be changed to something else like stamina or something for attack skills or even magick…maybe mental-based powers like telekinesis and such. Or not, I would like to see a MMORPG with no kind of "magick" at all that would be interesting. I also think that NPC run towns should be instanced as well as all dungeons (dungeon ideas include extensive caves/sewers or abandoned cities) and you can only bring with you a small number of skills and inventory (yea the heck with the 50 grid inventory okay lol) at any given time. I agree there shouldn’t be any classes but it might help if there was a guideline system, because if the game doesn’t have classes, the players will make classes themselves. One guy may favor warrior like skills over healer based skills and so on. Therefore I feel each character should be given 8 "expertise" slots, where a player can put in (permanently) different expertise such as first aid, marksmanship, swordsmanship, etc… these expertise will have a list of skills that can be learned over time by attributing skill points or something. For example the first aid expertise would have skills like healing HP, removing poison, clearing blindness, all different skills learned over time. Crafting would also be placed here such as cooking, carpentry, and so on. Speaking of crafting, I feel it should have a very large focus in the game. People should make just about every item possible, and all of these items have a good purpose in the game. Crafting shouldn't just be a off-hand way to pass time or something to work for when grinding, it should be a serious portion of game play. I also agree with perma-death. In a game such as this it would totally be a need. I have a idea on this matter too. When fighting and your health goes to a certain point lets say 1, you fall down and are unable to move. Left alone you will eventually heal and be back on your feet. Left among the undead you will have a time limit and if it runs out, they will eat you or w/e. This kills your character for good and you must make a new one. There an also be a zombie infection like poison that if not treated will kill your character for good.

Crafting would indeed play a big role, almost everything could be made, but there are military whatsits that might be somewhere that you couldn't just slap together. Other than that, everything from water collectors and gardening to weapons and barricades would be there. I would have permadeath only in cases of infection. PvP wouldn't be immediate permadeath, but would definitely suck. No corpse runs, just unconscious for a short time, longer depending on the overkill damage...unless it was massive damage. Waking up alone in this game would be almost as painful as permadeath at times, and sometimes would lead to it. Infection wouldn't happen all at once, Resident Evil style, except in cases of certain zombie types, just the gradual infection meter that others mentioned. Edit: PvP would possibly have a wakeup timer that could be shortened by first aid skills and items. |
