I made the mistake of buying Aion.  Pre-order.  Collector's Edition.  I want my money back!

Aion could be an awesome game, IF they would do something about the bots and gold spamming.  But apparently NCSoft has a deal with the gold-spammers that goes something like "Pay our monthly fee and we'll look the other way while you flood the channels with spam and flood the servers with farming bots."

This morning NCSoft released a patch to prevent new toons from whispering prior to reaching level five.  They had previously done the same thing to keep you from using the general channels.  Did it help stop the spam?  Uh... not even close.

Then they posted a message claiming that they are banning spammers.  Really?  Then why are the spammers using the exact same characters that they were using last week to spam me?  I cleared a few out of my block list, and within minutes they were whispering the same spam to me... days later!  NCSoft can clain all they want that they have GMs actively monitoring chat and banning spammers, but it's pretty obvious that they're not doing it on MY server!

I can't report bots in game.  When I try to use it I'm told I can't do that at this time.

Submit a ticket to the support website?  Sure, and maybe hear back from someone in a week.

So, no... NCSoft is not taking any action to stop the spam or the bots.  The result is the in-game economy is never going to be viable.

Don't bother buying this game, because NCSoft doesn't care about your in-game experience.  Buy the box and they're happy.  Soon most of their monthly subscription fees are going to be from farming bots and spammers!  Maybe the gold sellers will buy gold from each other after the players are gone.

NCsoft are doing their best, at least they are trying and in time all of this will be fixed.
In my time playing Aion EU I have only seen one bot....and it was failing so hard I just had to laugh, The Gold spam is getting a tad annoying though

Sorry you didn't enjoy the spam, but it seems others have gotten around this and block them every so often. As you have said a good game, but accusing a company of being in league with the spammers and botters is rediculous indeed.

Only being out three weeks, they are looking into ways to stop it and their is a little program on Aion Source that might help.

I still say at the very least a separate chat channel should be set up for those in the starting zones and besides that channel players should not have access to any other global type channel or be able to send tells until they complete all of the campaign quests on the "starter isle" and their ascension quest.

As to the op, least they upped the level to send tells.  Hopefully they keep continuing to cut out the spammers.  Frankly, I wish they would make an effort to block out the gold buyers as well because I find them to be as much to blame for this bullshit as the spammers but that's just me.

1.For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

2.To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

what i would suggest to anyone thinking of buying it now is to wait a while . its like any mmo release theres always problems in the first month or two . i remember the same thing happening with WoW . it was nt the smooth game it is today you know 5 years ago .  level 15 simply is nt enough to know what a game is about . if i was to compare it to my initial chracter in wow i was just entering darkshore at that level and i really had nt seen anything of the game . i actually gave up at level 26 in wow thinking it was all going to be about go out and hunt for this object of kill x amount of mobs . i only came back a month or so later because a friend told me i really needed to give it more time .once i d seen what its potential was i ended up staying 4 years . to anyone thats brought it i would suggest you contact Nscoft about the ques and complain and suggest to them you think they should offer you more free game time because i think thats the most unacceptable thing in regards to the game at the moment . the game itself is great but its just going through some teething troubles .

The fact he said this made me LOL really hard.  Why would you unblock a name that a gold spammer is using?  If a account get gets banned that name associated with that account can be used again by whoever.  Just because a account gets banned doesn't mean that the name they used can no longer be used.  Jeez

Everyone has opinions, but does that make them the universal truth??? NO!

In reading your statement... this is exactly what's the difference between WOW and Aion at the moment.
You don't get the "world" feel in Aion. You said ..." I was just entering darkshore at level 15".  Man that was a world out there to discover. I remember going with my character from SW to Ironforge, just discovering the tram, the huge snowwhite plains behind it and all those dwarf fortresses that even led you to the wetlands just by walking and discovering.

We had ... a choice in WOW, flying from the Wetlands to Darkshore or Hillsbrad, all in our teens nd we didn't even know the land of the nightelves. Thinking back, I had fun in that game in getting the neckless from princess with another noob at level 6. We died two times for that pig... Epic.

Aion is much too limited and  too liniar to represent a world experience at the moment. It's a "level up" game without much blood in its vains.

The moment you look at levels and that's your main goal : gaining a level........ MMO's die for me.

Aion is not the right step for the next evolution in mmo's. it is a dull step backwards ... 6 years back.

There is no adventure in Aion. It needs to be said.

Want a real mmorpg? Play WOW with experience turned off mode and be Pve_Pvp King at any level without a rat race.

Oh please.  They are tightening down every day.  Last night general chat was spam free.  I expect they will have a firm handle on it by next week as they are implementing things to end this every day.  I for one think its a great response to what the player base wants and is a perfect example of why people SHOULD buy the game.

Though I don't entirely agree with him I do get his point. And in some ways he is right.

To put it in my own words, though I'm not a wow player, I have played it and do maintain a sub just for fun. I do understand what he is saying in that with a game that has a larger world and perhaps more choices, you do get the feeling of "what a world to explore, what will happen in the coming days".

While Aion, though it does, truthfully open up quite a bit, is more about "what is happening now".

Since the pvp is part of the draw for me I will say that today, when I went into the temple by golden bough garrison I soon discovered that asmodians had settled there and were leveling and of course fighting Elyos who wandered in to quest.

I went to attack them with some others but was overwhelmed. I rezzed, rested and came back to join the fight, this time hovering (who says flying is a waste!) out of reach but close enough to pick people off as melee kept them engaged. We won, a pretty even fight at that point and it was a good and fun victory.

For me Aion is about the fights that are going on at the moment, who is sending the call out for reinforcements and of course leveling my character so I can be somewhat competitive.

But in no way is it a game like Vanguard where I am just itching to see what is over that hill or what place does this cave tunnel lead to.

Quite frankly, it's just a different type of game. And for me that is just fine.

Ahhh gold spammers...it's like the drug war: you fight it and fight and fight it and it keeps getting worse. Except there's maybe a better chance of dealing with the spammer than pot heads...because of technology n all.

You'll deal with this crap in ANY online RPG that has an economy, my advice to you and to the OP is bite the bullet and take it like a man! (shorty)

Its not crying, it sounds a lot like this person has legit concerns and a legit reason for leaving. He is annoyed and frusterated with an aspect of the game. You however sound a lot like a fanboy. If he doesnt see any reason to quit then he should be able to quit without you hounding him for it. He should also be able to get on a forum and post his said concerns without you hounding him for them as well. No i dont know this person and no I dont play Aion or WoW or any Sword and Sorcery competitor for that matter. I'm just using common sense and reading other people saying very similar things from what the OP said. So it's obviously a problem in the game, you need to chill and stop being rude just because someone doesnt like what you like.

Deadpool(to "Daredevil): See how you like it when I smack you with an interspatial distorter that will temporarily phase your brain into Dimension X!

"Daredevil": This is an ipod with a piece of masking tape attached to it.

Deadpool: It is...Ah, but for a second there, you were really worried!

"Daredevil": Idiot.

Its always as if the devs gets surprised when bots and spammers enter their game. Wonder why they dont try harder to prevent it already in the design phase.

Not a Game.

I'm very very sad and disappointed to hear that Aion is just another fighting game.

Yet another fantasy shooter, a  hollow shell filled with nothing.  Epic fail.

Seems the last best hope for a realm of Wonder and Intrigue and Imagination lies with Bioware.

The MMO genre as a whole is a running joke considering a 5+ year old game is so dominant.

10/07/09 7:09:08 PM#23

Yeah umm...what MMO hasn't been invaded by spammers especially the first couple weeks.

Although the botting problem is a different matter, this game is just packed with them....hmmm

Wonder if it has anything to do with players resorting to it inorder to avoid the grind that this game is also jam packed with...0o

Lineage 2 has been infested with bots and gold spammers for years, they never made anything.

Learn your lesson, never do a preorder, always wait for mmorpgs to come out and see how they develop.

I hate gold seller spam, the reason being is that it’s extremely disruptive. In most cases I am in the middle of doing something that requires a degree of attention when I get a message.

You get a whisper, and thinking it’s a friend with something important to tell you, you look down at your chat window with a slight level of enthusiasm, diverting your full attention away from what it is you’re doing for a few seconds, which may be critical in some cases. Right at the second you realize it’s just gold seller spamming you, you go through 4 types of emotion: disappointment, annoyance, and then anger, followed by frustration.

Disappointment by the fact that it wasn’t anyone you knew who wanted to talk to you, annoyance because it is distracting you from what you were doing, and of course anger because it was a waste of your time.

How do you stop this you may ask yourself? It’s not like there is really a person on the other end of that character who gives a crap whether you are upset over this, which leads you finally to you last emotion- frustration. You know that even if this person is punished, it will likely do no good since they will just make another account and start all over again chalking it up as the cost of getting their message out “I have gold to sell you!”

Another thing you realize is that with every 10 people who feel the same way as you, there may be one who actually finds their services as something they want to use. This for a gold seller makes it all the more worthwhile, because out of 100 people they may bug, 10 might actually spend a few hundred dollars on what they are pitching.

In the end you know these kinds of things will always persist in the world of MMOs as long as developers don’t create the proper tools within the game world to go after and deter these kinds of people. It’s my opinion that the fight is not against the sellers alone, but the buyers as well. Maybe if there was a way to actually track high amounts of currency from one player to another with no traded items, and then watch for a pattern to develop, you might be able to track it down. Ban the buyer and the seller I say. After a while players will learn that honesty is the best policy, and the gold sellers will retreat after they realize there are no buyers for them in the game.
