What do I mean when I say I'm looking for an MMO without the "free" feel to it?

Well, an MMO with a "free" feel is one that generally has:

  • poor controls (having clicking and WASD to move without the ability to disable one or the other is a good example)
  • horrible graphics (usually to the point where it's painful to look at, I can take mediocre graphics, though)
  • a pretty decent community (meaning I'll be able to get groups pretty easily)
  • a semi-decent class system (so it deviates from the 3 class: Warrior, Healer, Mage system)

So the MMO that gets farthest from those will be the one I'll play. The closest I've found is Ragnarok Online, but it's major turn off is only using the mouse to attack and move, which is ok if I'm extremely bored, but doesn't hold a ton of entertainment value.

Edit: I forgot one thing. If it has an item mall it can't be so game altering that you can't do any endgame stuff without spending money. Also, a game with decent graphics is Rohan or something of that caliber or a little less. They don't have to be mind-blowing.

 Try Dungeons and Dragons Online: Ebberon Edition. I played this game for a few years with my boyfriend before it went Free to Play and it was a great game then and a great game now. Fab graphics and gameplay, will most likely dominate the free to play field quite soon.

I tried DDO and something about the combat bugged me.

I've refined my search so that I just has to qualify in 2 main areas:

1.) The controls can't be horrible (the most common mistake I see is having point+click controls with WASD, making it really hard to target monsters without just running by them.

2.) The item mall (if applicable) needs to not break the game so that it is necessary to buy things from it in order to be able to play in the end game.

 Soooo... actual good combat bugs you? Well here's the deal with F2P; you get one thing Korean MMO's and point to click, almost 90% of the time. Welcome to F2P. I agree with 2nd poster, you get what you pay for.

So from what i understand, you are looking for a MMO with:

* Good controls
* Good graphics
* An indecent community
* A semi-indecent class system that pretty much sums up to 3 classes: Warrior, Healer, Mage

Not sure what to suggest, there are a lot of games like that.

Rubies of Eventide, Dofus, WoW, Guild Wars, Warhammer Online, Anarchy Online
