The latency meter constantly jumps from 0.00 to 0.30. But mostly it just shows: out 0.00 KB/s

I play from Norway, and I have the same problems. During peak times in the US, the delays can jump up to around 10 seconds for me. Fighting with a rifle or pistol is almost completely useless, and a waste of ammo. It sucks pretty bad. And no, it is not my system, or anything I am running. I have no firewall, and nothing else open that is using bandwidth. Also, I play every other MMO on the market just fine, and I play mostly on American servers where possible. (AoC, WAR, WoW, etc) According to my pingpaths and traceroutes, I am usually getting screwed in Raleigh, and things typically time out before the ping path even completes, which is just crap. And, before someone asks about system specs... : Windows Vista 64 Ultimate Q9550 OCed to 3.23ghz 8 gigs of DDR2 1033 260 GTX Black Caviar HDD 7200 RPM, not even close to full. One for OS, and another for the game. Both defragged weekly. So yes, this is just a routing problem for a good chunk of EU players, which sucks. Nothing FE, or we can do about it. If there was a Euro server, it would really help, but I am not sure that would be very good, because I like the whole "one world for us all to play in". Best thing to do? Bitch out Raleigh, and anyone else in the route screwing us over. :P |

It's highly probable that the problem is your location, and the hops your computer goes through to get to the server. Pinging www.fallenearth.com (bring up Command Prompt from Programs/Accessories and type www.fallenearth.com, press Enter) and running a traceroute (again from Command Prompt, tracert www.fallenearth.com) could show a clearer picture, I think. Many players outside the US have been having these kinds of latency problems since the beta. I myself have, still am. It's probably nothing to do with your computer with the sort of FPS you're reporting, it's going to take an absolutely messed up hard drive to give you that sort of delay. I myself have steady-ish FPS but wildly varying lag problems that's related to one or two of the hops on the way to the server. One time of the day it's smooth, and then some other time nothing will update for several seconds, sometimes even as long as the 20 seconds you report in your OP... And a lot of rubberbanding goes on. On a few occasions, I even get disconnected from the server. You can imagine how ranged combat does become practically a constant rez and run back affair at times like these :) Personally I'm trying to avoid the more laggy times, and taking the wait and see approach. I find that the game has definitely improved performance (FPS) wise since the beta, and I'm enjoying it, so I'm hoping we may see improvement in latency-related lag, too.

well thats just a risk you have to take with indie game developers, horrible performance and server problems. And it seems I stepped into the bear trap at this point. All I can do is wait and hope. Since I am NOT touching a FPS game with 10-20 second delays...

Guys, this issue isn't the game as such. I play fromt he UK and have NO lag. Even my GF's computer runs the game spectacually well and she's only got a lowly nvidia card, the computer itself is over 4 years old. Things to check: 1) Make sure graphics if turned down, completely down...see if that helps 2) Check Fallen Earths forums and run what they say there to find out what they suggest there. 3) Check your firewall isn't blocking the game, some games do not run well when certain ports are blocked (For example Warhammer and the British Telecom ISP blocking some ports, game was UNPLAYABLE) If you find this doesn't help then somethings wrong. As for europeans server I say NO! There is no need, and I don't want the company funnelling money to other servers when they can be improving the game. P.S. Don't see many americans screaming for a US server now for EVE do you? Wait and all shall be fine.

I'm in the UK, and often have to stop playing due to lag. For those that aren't familiar with me, I worked in IT for almost 2 decades, with the last 4 years of that being involved in AI research. I'm more than capable of telling the difference between system and server lag :) My home connection is on Virgin Media. I have no other viable option as the local telephone exchange can only provide me with ~1Mbps connection. I love my little rural house and I'm not moving for the sake of playing this one game in my spare time. For me, and many other users, the trouble is in the connection between Washington and Raleigh in the US. This seems more so for the people on the ex-NTL cable network. VM is aware and has made a few small changes, but not enough as yet. I'm well aware that this isn't the cause of everyones latency issues, but it is undoubtedly the cause of mine. If anyone is having troubles with lag, I encourage them to download PingPlotter and run tests directed at www.fallenearth.com.

Playing from Oslo, Norway with Get internet 26 mbit. No lag/latency issues what so ever any longer. My basic specs aren't too far from yours: e8500 @ 4.3ghz, 4gb DDR3 1333mhz, WD 500 gb (OS) + WD 1tb (games etc) 7200 rpm HD's, Win 7 64 bit, 260 gtx OC'd, cheap Netgear router, win firewall, Avast anivir. Have you triple checked exceptions on your firewall and that antivir is not interrupting? Tried adding all .exe's in the game folder to the exceptions list manually? Have you e-mailed your ISP and ask if they are messing about? Tried going into another area of the map and seen if the problem persists? (Last weekend Terance and Depot 66 was lagged like hell, but Oilville was fine) |

Well, it's surely bad luck but not an isolated incident. I've beta tested this game for months and I can assure you, a lot of people were talking about / reporting such latency issues, especially where Europe was concerned. This does not mean, for example, that every player from a certain country would have it, but it was widespread enough to earn threads on the game's forums. And Rallycart, thank for the heads-up, that actually makes sense. Problem is, up to now all my pinging login.fallenearth.com has returned nothing but "timed out" messages... What kind of results are you having?

Nikopol, pinging login.fallenearth.com won't do much for you :) Tracert will show you why. You're not after the login server though, and it appears that all of FEs incoming/outgoing traffic is sent through www.fallenearth.com, with the most common 'hiccup' in the line at ae-6-6.car2.Raleigh1.Level3.net which is found in all connections to the server (on my VM line at least). |

They usually time out at Raleigh, which is why my lag is so bad. If you check the config files, login.fallenearth.com is clearly used, so I can be pretty well and sure that the game connects through it, and being that I have a ton of lag, and the pingpath/traceroute almost always times out at Raleigh, that is where I diagnose the problem. |

I really have no idea what you guys are talking about. I'm your average "holiday casual" gamer if you will. And like I said, I don't even know my own specs other than what I can and cannot play. I really hoped I'd hot have to do alot of this "wiz" stuff and that I could just install and go. Like I can with anything else I have played the past years (except fallout 3, that game was a mess beyond hell in comparison).

I dont run a firewall or antivirus, so as I said, it cant be that. I have Nextgentel, which might be causing the issue, but they are completely incompetent. I asked for an speed increase to my internet 3 weeks ago, and have still not gotten it, because they need to change out the ADSL card. Really? Three+ weeks? I used to have an issue with them back when i used Bittorrent, which I would constantly get bad signals. It took them 7 phone calls, 2 e-mails, and almost 5 months to get it fixed. I would drop them if I had any other option. The only other ISP for me is Telenor, and their speeds are garbage. |

10/1 mbit cable here (UPC, ex-NTL) in Ireland. No issues whatsoever. Latency well below 200 most of the time. DB Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is. |

I sympathise completely mate. If you don't fancy doing anything techy, follow the request in this thread. FE will take a look and confer with your current ISP. Sadly, there really isn't much more you can realistically do other than try a different ISP. |
