No, it will not happen in europe. DDO Europe is owned by Codemasters, and they are not "down"with F2P ...

Play USA version like rest of us (from europe)

My understanding is that it is not.

The legal docs for the lawsuit Turbine is bringing agasint Atari details the reasons for it quite clearly. The only reason DDO:U even went live in non-Erupean areas is due to Atari backing out as a publisher of DDO before the game launched in 2006.  Atari insisted on retaining publishing rights in EU which, assumably, is the reason for longer then normal delays for you guys and gals over there.

Turbine gave a set of rewards to everyone who's been an EU subscriber to compensate them for not being able to recieve the Free to Play version due to Atari being inept.

there was an amendment to the license/publishing agreement before the game ever launched.  The alterations apparently allowed Turbine to assume some of the responsibilities relating to publishing content upgrades, but Atari had insisted they retain full and complete control over the EU.

If you want to play free - the best bet is to try to join one of the "other" servers.  We have Europeans, Asutralians, Koreans and Japanese.  I don't see why you can't play with us too.  ;)

Former subscriber to DDO Europe here. What rewards are those? And do you know if former subscribers get them too, or if they are only for current subscribers?

Would be kinda nice to know if there is something nice awaiting me, if I return :D

Edit: I did some digging on the EU forums and found my answer :P

Link in case others wonder about the same.

Well, the CM billing systems were down yesterday for a little time, perhaps CM are implementing "back end" changes ready for for a F2P model to go live when the lawsuit dust settles.

That's not the reason why. Codemasters have these player accounts system maintenance periods all the time and it affects all their games including LOTRO.

As to the rewards on DDO: Europe there were 3 items for players who had an active sub on the 3rd September 2009 (although I heard it may have in-active subs too).

A dragonshard (for respec)

200 draconic runes and a clensing shard (but these were on the day revealed only to be given to lvel 16+ characters much to the annoyance of the players)

At this time (5th -12th Oct 09 ) the DDO: Europe has a welcome back week so you probably got an email on this.

However conflicting with this the DDO Trial has been disabled so no new players are able to join. Giving yet another reason for European players to go play on the US  servers. Add to this the new US server Cannith would be a good choice for any new players wanting to start the game with a new economy and many newbie players.

It's a real shame and I don't think the Atari mess will be sorted any time soon...

[edit 13-OCT-2009] The ddo Europe trial has been enabled again it seems.

Please note this is for the European servers (run by Codemasters) not DDO:Unlimited.

This is a bummer to hear. I have been reading on the forums for a while that our fellow DDO players from across the pond were being delayed in the F2P model. I hope this gets worked out soon. Nevertheless, c'mon over and play with us in NA for a while. We'd love to have ya! :)
