Lot more to this game than crafting, but crafting is quite easy in this game
Go out, explore the area, take missions, compelte and obtain skill books and other rewards, harvest..sorry Scavenge items, use items you scavenge to make items, at any point you can craft..I mean any point...as long as you have recipe you can craft at teh bottom of a canyon, and carry on playing the crafting still goes ahead, people only use crafting table to reduce the time taken for item to be completed

I'm sure you don't like crafting since you haven't played any games that have had "Real" crafting... WoW doesn't count. FE is a lot like SWGs crafting system :-) |

Is that a bad trolling attempt? Someone who should find out about how much crafting has an impact in the game should be also find more about the rest of the game, or not? |

no its just on these forums a lot of the discussion about the game seemed crafting focused. |

Crafting isn't a necessity, but it certainly makes life in FE easier. Purchasing items outright can be pretty expensive, while scavenging / harvesting / crafting gives your character the ability to create the items yourself and is far cheaper. When I first started, I was buying crossbow bolts. I think twenty of them were going for like 25 chips or something like that. When I learned to craft them, all I had to do was pick up some copper and wood, and bingo, 80 bolts. Took me like seven minutes to scavenge the materials at the junkyard near Terance (sp?). The other upside of crafting for me is the scavenging itself. I've visited new areas just to see what kind of resources were out there that I might not have otherwise visited. At the same time, it's not like you're alone while scavenging. There are always beasties to fight, so most of the time it's a combination of fighting and scavenging. Abbatoir / Abbatoir Cinq |

Hell, I've been playing for over a week now, with my char being lvl 14, but honestly, this shocked me. 70 towns??? And here I was happy that I finished all quests in South Burb, Mumford, Embry Crossroads (excluding Omnibus quests), Odenville and Oilville.... that's 5 ouf of 70+ lol.... and I'm already stuck in Kingman, due to the ridiculous amount of quests there... (not even doing repeatebles at all....) DB Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is. |

Crafting isn't my cup of tea either but it actually looks interesting in this game. Looks more like something you do all the time while playing and not just a side mission like in other MMO's. |

This is spot on. And it is because you loot resources when you go out - not money (chips) and not the Rifle of Infinite Ammo from killing a wolf pack leader sort of rubbish. Resources are precious in this setting. So, crafting is really the way you convert the rewards of being succesful in exploring and combat into items. And it will always be the items you want because you choose what to craft. This is not to say that crafting in its own right isn't a lot of fun, and you can always buy the resources you lack.
I really enjoy the combat in FE. And then I really enjoy using the resources I get from the combat to craft armour and weapons for my budding pistoleer cowboy guy. For me, this arrangement is very engaging and highly enjoyable.

The game is young yet. At the beginning, it is fun, the "Oh, look! I make my ammo! Ohh I made myself a coat!" I think what will happen is, the average gamer attention span will kick in right about the time people hit the mid-teens and see what it takes to actually craft stuff. It requires a lot of work so far. Then again, I'm not thinking small.... I've partnered up with somebody in game to maximize our crafting effort, at the moment, we're trying to make a Dune Buggy! For 1 guy alone, that could take WEEKS of crafting research and component crafting. I can't imagine your average "I PWN JOO" player spending that amount of time an energy to make items like that. Besides, there's tons of combat and other things to do in the game - and I think in due time when the massive influx of sight-seers leave the game, and the community evens out, you'll see a lot more diversity in how the game is played. I've been registered here a long time, I read daily. I just don't have much to say. |

So, what you're seeing is more discussion about crafting because it actually has more presence and weight in the game. It's a good thing :)
