Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt |
I played FE in beta and although I tested and submitted bugs, I was never happy with the game. I knew it was beta, so I never posted my negative thoughts publicly or anything, I just tested and then decided it wasn't for me and moved on when that beta phase ended. I've always enjoyed Aion through it's beta events and so that became my obvious choice when they both launched. Fast forward to yesterday. Decided to take a peek in here and saw a few positive threads, including the top 10 realisms, etc... All good stuff and reminded me of UO a bit, so I hit a few sites and read some more. I saw that some of my aggravations from beta seemed to be winding down and vanishing, and also that a lot of great ideas had made their way into the game. I was reading a lot of things that i consider pros in a game, and really miss from the UO days. For one, a living world feel to the game. And so last night I bought the game, wondering if things could have really come as far as I was reading. I just logged out after playing far too many hours to mention. I am completely blown away by this game. I almost passed it up. Absolutely amazing job that Icarus has done here in my opinion. I'm already missing it and I just logged out!

It has been a very, very long time since I had this much fun in a mmorpg. I played it for a couple of days now and it gets better and better. I thought I had lost this feeling since my first steps in online gaming. Friggin' luvin' it. So sad that many people can't look past the graphics and post-launch bugs and try this. If you played it for a few days you will find out that the core of the game; mechanics and gameplay, as well as diversity, freedom and choice, are pretty damn awesome. The crafting system is deep and highly addictive. Also the ingame support, if you need it, is almost instantly. The proof is in the pudding though and I reserve my final judgement untill I ate the whole damn thing in a few months time. So far? Awesome sauce.

I'm the same as the OP. i played in Beta and was not that impressed. Tried Aion and deleted it after playing for two days and decided to give Fallen Earth another go. I am really glad I did. The story line, crafting, combat, skill based system along with the really great community have made this the most enjoyable MMO i have played in the last 10 years. Finally a decent MMO. |

Brilliant game.
Reminds me very much of EvE Online when thet game first launched. Rough around the edges but still awe inspiring in scope. I'm boring all my friends about it who are still heavily into Aion (I like that game too). Needs some heavy optimization though (gfx=/performance) but that'll be fixed up in time. *** By the Nines! +1 to the "wasn't impressed in Alpha/CB, but loving it now" crowd.... NDA had actually a point in this game :D DB Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is. |

Grrr god damnit guys you are making me really want to buy this game now. If it has good crafting I think I'll like it. Although there is nothing else really like this game. |

It is definitely different. My best advice to you is, don't make the mistake I made by having another mmorpg on the brain. If your exhausted with the other mmo titles and you aren't currently playing any other mmo, then try FE, the game requires a lot of attention (at least for me it does). I am torn between 3 mmo titles right now and my online buddies that are playing them. FE and CO was my choice, of course theirs were Lotro and Aion. So I am a victim of Peer Pressure, but try to make my time with FE by myself. (As I stated in other threads, its diamond in the ruff).

I must say I had my doubts about FE, but after hearing so much good things about it, much more than AION and other games that came out.. I must play this game.. I am a UO vet as well, I played Darkfall, EVE, SWG-Pre-Cu, and what not.. So I should really like this game if it is as good as people say it is.. |

Yeah I was discussing this theo ther day actually. I have a serious game problem. Even though I am loving ones I currently own I see new ones that look interesting and I must have them immediately. 3 weeks ago I bought Champions Online. 2 weeks ago I bought Aion and just the other day I bought another copy of Lord of the rings online so me and my bro can play together.
Aion is out. Didn't like it from the get-go. Champions is good but I'm not going to subscribe as I am really back into LORTO. It's still a great game and I think it's going to last a while due to me and my bro being able to play together.
Cheers for the advice. I guess if FE takes a tremendous amount of time and has a big learning curve, it's best to avoid it for now. Also I have heard the client is a real hassle and I'm almost capped for the month so guess I'll give it a month or 2 and then I'll see how the game is going.
Thanks again! :) |

Yeah I had my doubts too when I played the beta. But now I enjoy the game (if it wouldnt crash constantly unless I reduce the graphics quality a lot). Currently my char is crafting another ATV (so I can write the improved atv book), 4 hatches (for some quests), stews 4 times blood rabbits, makes apple sauce, does 3 other cooking recipes I forgot and crafts a helmet. I guess I better do now something useful (already played too much today) and check back in later how my char is doing. ^^ It's kinda weird to know that everyone you read about playing FE in any boards or whatever is playing in the same world on the same server. |

You guys are really making me want to try this game again. I was an alpha tester but like many of you wasn't really that impressed with the game in alpha and thus didn't really play it much. What is so different now compared to the alpha days? Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic |

Fallen earth has too much quests and as such it is as far as you possibly can get away from a sandbox game.. I hate being led by the hand by quests and the game does not have any grouping options early on, if ever. And server cant give alot of the europeans good ping. Also combat feels glitchy. it feels like hitting paper dolls when you hit mobs in the game. No good combat sounds, poor death animations are just a few of the things that irritates me. Harvesting yields tons of materials that you cant carry due to limited inventory space. Harvesting in one area you might discover skill 50 nature nodes and skill 1 scavenging nodes. No hint as of where to go for materials you want. Mostly just a huge nuisance to harvest..
If you are unsure about the game, wait for a trial version! |

That's a perfect contradiction. You don't like being "led" by quests, but you expect same level nodes to be in one place. Think again :) DB Edit: also, limited inventory place just helps immersion of real life. Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is. |

I played for hours and hours last night. I got completely lost exploring. Wandered into a pvp zone and bit it but had a great time :) I'm only level 4 but I was able to craft my first horse bridle and then upgrade it by using it to craft a riding horse bridle. So i can now get around a lot easier without my ATV eating up gas for now :) The game just keeps growing and growing on me.

Im really happy that FE seems to have turned out to be a good game. I played in the open beta and to my surprise I actually enjoyed it alot, but its really not my kind of game so Im not gonna sub to it. Anyway.. Im glad that they are doing good and people are having fun and that 2009 atleast had 1 decent MMO released :) If WoW = The Beatles |

Yeah, I was going to ask the same question. Could any testers chime in on what's been improved / added from the alpha and closed beta phases? I'm especially curious as to whether there's been any noticable improvement in terms of performance (ranged combat felt really wonky back in CB) and whether any further content and / or sandbox tools have been implemented.

I'm editing and pasting a reply I did earlier and so you may draw your own conclusions from that. But my perception of the performance is that it is way better for me now then it was in CB. The first machine gives me around 30 outside the bank at Kingman a well populated area, out in the open alot more ofcourse. I have every settings on high and in catalyst I have all settings on quality. The FE options for AA is turned off though. Outside the bank in Embry I got 25-30fps awhile back but not shure on what settings I had at that time. The second benchmark is taken on a laptop, not default test and I can't really remember what setting I changed. It could be the resolution changed to 1280x800. On that computer I have to turned graphics to medium textures/no shadows/all sliders set at 70% and get 30-35 fps in a populated place, like the bank outside Kingman. I would expect a high populated place like Embry would make it lower. If I turn down all settings I get 50-55 fps. No AA. They have done some optimizing for dual+ core CPUs and memory with Vista x64.

+1 for Dark Pony Darn them for making players have to think outside of the box a tiny, tiny bit, lol! Asheron's Call. The one open world, classless progression, live team content oriented game that ALL game sites and developers show little respect for as a template to pattern future MMOs after.
