I decided to give the game a go and bought it thru Steam. I'm probably going to go melee starting out and wondered if I should go Enforcer.   Planning on leveling skills Melee, Armor, Dodge, and Athletics.  Does that sound about right? Any input is greatly appreciated as I hear no respecs are available, and I don't want to gim my character.

Your big melee factions are Choto and Light Bearers.. Enforcers are armor, rifles and pistols for the most part.

You May want to jump onto the website and read a bit about each faction and the benefits of each etc before deciding.. Altho keep in mind you do get until at least level 15+ until you make a final decision when you move to sector 2 and in most cases pick a faction to support, and that will take you some time to do.

I'm going for a similar build.

Except that I'm choosing dodge over athletics.

Dodge reduces damage taken.

If you choose athletics you have an additional attribute to spend your AP's on, Endurence.

Dodge needs coordination and perception, you already boost your coordination for melee, and perception is a good stat to boost anyway because almost all skills use perception and tradeskills too.

I'm alos going for first aid, which also uses perception.

To clear up something here, dodge doesn't reduce dmg taken, it's dmg avoidance, ie. not getting hit. What armor you're wearing determines dmg mitigation.

Added- Well, technically dodge does reduce dmg taken, but overall, not per hit.

You can chose yourself whether you want to be a tough or fast fighter, nothing is ultimate, you always have to balance choices and live with them after.
