I know more than 50% of people who play any mmo game do what's called 'Botting" These "botters" use programs to set a path for their character to pretty much play the game for them, so the player doesn't have to do any real work. Me I've NEVER used a bot for any reason. That just takes the fun away from the game, and it proves YOU HAVE NO REAL SKILL and are just lazy. Recently someone tried to convince me that botting gives you a life while being able play the game. WELL IT DOESN'T! People have to LEARN TO BALANCE THEIR LIVES. That takes some real skill. working in some game time during your busy schedule without using a bot. In every MMO Recently I'm starting to lose faith in them because of botters, gold sellers, paid power levelers. ETC. The list goes on. Anything to take the easy way out. I want to see an MMO where gold sellers DO NOT exist, people actually care about the game enough to NOT BOT. I'm just sick of the NON-Interaction that comes along with all of this. MMO's were meant to bring the world together to Play.   I think that MMO Companies should ban the use of bots and ban all gold sellers accounts. Buying Gold on the internet can cause an 80% chance of your account getting stolen and or banned. So I don't know why people want to do crap like that.

I do apologize if this was too harsh but that's my rant and that's my opinion.

Summary: If you buy the game, PLAY IT!

What is your opinion of botters, gold sellers, etc...

Can't Stand it, it just ruins the fun!
It doesn't bother me either way.
I prefer to solo my games

Okay I know not much REAL SKILL is required of an MMOG. but still, it all ruins the actual fun of the game.

While I agree with the sentiment your premise fails. In some MMOs people don't bot at all  and only in very few is it as rampant as you indicate. Spend less time worrying about what others are doing and you'll enjoy games, and life, more.

Well this is such a mix of rubbish that the few bits of interest in it are hard to see. First if 50% of the players were botters it would be much more noticeable. Industry statistics show that the number of people engaged in this within a game is quite small but that their impact is much larger than their population.

As to the skill bit that is just a riot. Botters fall into two categories. Professional and casual. Professional botters do it for the money and they don't read this forums and don't care what you say, think or do. Casual botters tend to do it for resource farming and don't see it as hurting the economy (it does of course) and aren't like to care what you think. So basically 100% of the botters are ignoring you. Neither of these groups are "playing" the game and don't care in the least about skill. They are actually gaming the game to get something with the least amount of personal effort.

As to 80% of people losing their accounts to gold sellers that is just rubbish too as most gold is delivered via in game trade systems. The purchaser might lose their account because they get banned but not for simply buying gold. If they give their account details over to a power leveler then I do hope the account gets hi-jacked and they lose everything they have as they are both lazy and stupid.

Thanks for the hysteria though.

Tell it to the developers. These days, you really cant have a life and play an mmorpg (unless your the small percentage that actually cares about rinsing and repeating). Just scroll out and look at yourself when your playing, you'll see how pointless and ridiculous what your doing is.

Maybe those 6 hours spent today running around a fictional realm actually meant something in the grand scheme of your life. Maybe those 300 mobs you owned today, actually care that you spilt their guts on the floor. Nah probably not, they'll be back.

Developers want the end-game to look flashy because they want those 1000+ hours of some poor old sod, because they love you? More like your money.

In conclusion, bots are a god-send and realistic. Because I don't have to waste my time reaching cap and i reach it quickly. And don't give me that crap about "immersion" and "enjoying the journey" your just another upset addict, I'd rather watch American Idol.

Peace.

More than 50%? I highly doubt that. Also it varies from game to game a lot. I guess that somewhere between 2% and 5% would use such stuff. Most MMORPG gamers wouldn't know how to use the thing or what to use it for. Also where do you have your 50% statistic from?

Also, this skill-discussion is in general silly. Skill is obviously just a general knowledge of the game paired with acceptable reaction time, and that is not needed most of the time in most MMORPGs.

I agree that botting is, like all kinds of cheating, annoying, and I myself wouldn't do it. But it doesn't annoy me a lot. I mean what impact does it have on my personal game experience if someone else set his bot to have him walk around in circles and sometimes shoot a mob? It doesn't effect me in the slightest. So why care?

I agree with your post and the issues that u brought up. I also know people in real-life who play MMO's who use bots, gold  and power-leveling services.I do not agree with it myself but unfortunately u have losers that finally have something they can win at since real life then treat them so well in the competition department. These people find out that they can take shortcuts. I dont want to call it cheating because u can play the game however u choose, its their money. I just dont group with the guys who i know that cheat.. er i mean take shortcuts. Just keep on playing the game like it was meant to be played and let the clowns continue to bask in their unwarranted glory.

First off, I would like to say that i only read the first couple of posts, so don't get mad if I repeat things already said =P

I do agree with your statement that people bot and it's lazy, but saying that 50% of people bot is outrageous and an exaggeration. Also every popular game out there is going to have gold seller/buyers, bots, etc. And I can almost guarantee that every popular game does. Everybody has different reasons for doing things like this. Maybe because they realize that they can make money off of a game, even if it's illegal, or they can make a game easier for themselves. Some people may also find that a game is only fun for them in the higher levels or if they're rich, which in a lot of cases can be true. I could go on and on about why people might do things, but I'd rather not.

Don't get me wrong, I don't really like botters myself and I do consider them to be lazy. But i'm not going to hold a grudge against them or hate them for it. If you see a botter, report them, if you can, and move on with your game and life. There isn't much you can do about it and making a post like this won't stop anyone, but I'm guessing you just had to let this out. =P

What I think about botting are people who would like to earn real money from the work of others.

To those who create these kind of third party programs should be locked up.
