Start from Zanesville for best starter quest rewards.

Do the tutorial.

Asheron's Call. The one open world, classless progression, live team content oriented game that ALL game sites and developers show little respect for as a template to pattern future MMOs after.

The game is pretty overwhelming...only started yesterday and just about getting a handle on things. The crafting system is awesome.

So far then for the people that have played it. Is it as close to the good ol' days of SWG as you can get with todays mmos? Sanbox'esk if you will?

Don't go pure ranged on your first character like i did. Ammo is not easy to come by at lower levels. Go either melee or combination of melee/ranged.

Leave all preconceptions at the door and see if you enjoy it for what it is, a game.

Nice to hear another is trying FE and I hope you like it. Comparisons to SWG are not uncommon to read...

Advice? Sure. Ummm, work hard and be good to your mum. :D

Sorry, couldn't resist. More seriously, read the quest texts because they are genuinely better than what I am used to from previous games. Do the quest chains that award extra APs which can be found in the various starter towns. They are great fun and the extra APs are nice. Explore. Craft yourself some armour right from the start. Eat food for the health buff. Don't be afraid to try every gathering and crafting option - it really does you no harm. Don't forget you have a skill bar as well as the FPS stuff to use. You have buffs right from the start... use them. Pistol whipping is an awesome skill you get early.

Oh... and aim for the head. :)

An opinion once stated is no longer humble.

Not having played yet myself but from reading the forums alot over the last year or so.

Don't spend AP just because you have it.  Keep it until your absolutly sure thats the direction you want to go.  No respecs yet so the only way to fix it is to reroll.  Besides most early mobs don't really require any points put into any attributes to deal with them so take your time and experiance the different combat stuff to find what your more comfortable with.

Apparently you can be fairly self sufficent without going full out on the crafting. The bonus for going full out on the crafting is you can build better stuff at the far end of the game so crafting won't be a way to get rich while leveling but selling high end gear to those more combat focused and presumably the stuff needed to repair said high end gear should keep your head afloat later on.

Don't spend any AP in the early levels (let's say lvl 5 or so) except for harvesting (gathering) if you want to.

Gathering doesn't really require AP but it requires a certain level in 2 attributes: intelligence and...perception? You'll figure it out which is the second. These attributes need AP's to boost your gathering. These two attributes boost other things too, but you'll figure that out,  just want to guide you through the first levels.

Crafting doesn't require anything at all, just practice and the books (receipes), and materials off course.

(I'm not sure anymore if crafting does or doesn't requires AP's)

But don't spend any AP's yet on other stuff, skills and other attributes to be more precise...quest a bit around, harvest (gather) if you want to, craft some if you want to. You'll figure out soon that AP's are very valuable and that you can't have everything (attributes, skills).

You can however have all gatherings if you want to, these two only depend on the attributes I spoke off.

What I want to say is, if you start spending AP's to soon chances are big you'll make mistakes. I don't think I only speak for myself here.

And don't forget to feel the apocalypse, that's the whole point of the game :-)

take it very very very very slow, there is so much stuff to learn with the crafting, gathering and fighting, you need to really pay attention. I did CB for this game and would definitly be playing it cause it is one of the most brutally amazing mmorpg, but for some reason my eyes kept hurting after about 2 hours of game play :(

If you want an epic game that is pretty brutal in the learning curve and is as close to a sandbox title that you can possibly get, get this gfame, it is amazing ! It blows Korean fluff out of the water, for real.

From what other testers said during cb... this is a preCU gamers wet dream.

You will definitely make use of the help chat in game if you are a new player.. as a lover of the old SWG and a veteran gamer (whatever that means to you) I can clearly see how it could be overwhelming at first.  Theres so much to learn and the sections are enormous.

My advice.  If you choose a path, don't stray far from it... for instance.. pay close attention to the stats that govern your skills.  Also, even if you don't decide to craft and level your intelligence/perception for tradeskills, its still a good idea to pick up items for your ranged weapons if you go that route.  If nothing else Harvest, Mine and Scavenge and sell what you find for as much as you can so you don't have to worry about crafting.

Its a pretty cut throat world out there but so far I'm loving every minute of it.

Playing: Lineage 2, Dissidia FF
Waiting For: FFXIV, TERA Online

Just ordered FE earlier myself and it's currently patching 46k files... yikes o.o.

Anyway... I remember checking this out on and off throughout its development and thinking it looked really interesting. Now that it's out, and people are playing it... gotta say, other than the bumps they had at launch, this game seems to have a very positive response overall.

I love the sandboxy-ness of it... I never got to play much of pre-CU/NGE SWG before they changed it, but really enjoyed that freedom and true diversity while it lasted, so seeing the comparisons to that really has my interest. Plus.. I dunno.. I haven't really played a MMO based around people for a while (Matrix Online was the last one, really), and it'd be a nice change of pace. I'm not "sick of elves and orcs" - I'm a big fan of fantasy. I am sick of seeing them regurgitated in cliche' MMO after cliche' MMO that's come out over the past few years.

To play on the words of Jack Nicholson's The Joker... "This genre needs an enema!" - or at least more variety and some more in-depth, interesting games for those of us who don't mind having to use our brains at least as much as our mouse fingers.

So... maybe for me, FE will be one of those games. We shall see :).

Grinding is the worst idea ever integrated into a game...

I would much rather have fun.

Well said, I can't wait for the $35 I'll be making tomorrow.  Probably should be putting it towards food for my apartment.

But I figure if I'm going to hungry...I might as well be hungry and losing weight while playing something original and unlike anything I've seen so far.

I'll definitely be handing the developers my $50 and purchasing it through them.  An ATV in-game, and the chance to help a no-name out-of-the-box developer sounds like something I rarely get to do.

Think FE is what you and a lot people have been waiting for, just support the developers through the hard times and good times of the game cycle and it will become a legendary title over time.
