So coming off a trial, I am still fairly new. Have had the fortunate disposition of a pirate guild taking me under their wing to teach me the ways Their yarring ways. It started with a simple gate camp. We had one successful ransom, and the loot was shared out to the hunting pack of 4 (including myself who did nothing but watched how it was done). The proverbial hit the fan when we decided to hunt in an asteroid belt. We spotted a miner (don’t know the class of ship) who looked to be alone. The order over broadcast was given to engage and “take down to structure”. Turns out that this miner actually had mates that warped in and a vicious dog fight ensued between us and 3 of them. Fight went on for at least 20 minutes. One of ours went down and another retreated back to our HQ. I was trying to do the same, but got scrammed and webbed. I fought as desperately as I could (being in a punisher I am slow, but can take a few). Eventually my ship went boom, and I fled in my capsule, cursing myself on the way for engaging in the first place and losing my beloved punisher. When I was in the starbase licking my wounds, the guy that killed me open a convo asking me how much I lost and “did I learn a lesson”. I congratulated him on a good kill and said I still had a lot to learn. To my surprise my wallet started flashing and I realised he made a donation to me of 1mil ISK! He said, here gg this will help for a new ship, and “pirating is a tough path”. I love this game! You could never do this in wow! |

Spot on! Problem is it's hard to not make it personal when most peoples main experience in a MMO is item based. Come from WoW where a purple armor set is everything and then loss a ship in Eve and its devastating. It took me a while to not give a shit about ship loss, Now I just laugh it off and toss a "GF" in local and try to pod away. Why would I play a pathetic themepark MMO when I could enjoy a masterpiece like Mass Effect, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Dragon Age? |

You're making me miss EVE a bit. :[ Had to cancel because my laptop would never be able to handle even the opening graphics, thus I wouldn't even be able to level up my skills. edit* so it appears I still have an EVE subscription til November....heh |

That PvP isn't personal I agree with 100%. I always get pissed however when I loose a ship. Not at who blew me up but at myself. Well if it's unavoidable it's cool, but if I loose a ship because of personal tarding I usually just log in anger. I remember once I had lost an Arazu and a ceptor just 30 minutes after that, both stupidly if I may say. I grabbed a Zealot from my hangar and told the rest in gang if I loose this one too I'm not logging in again for a week and I meant it. Luckily it didin't come to that. I still to this date haven't played an MMO with more consequences to bad PvP'ing than EVE. It really keeps the PvP tense and worthwhile unlike other MMO's where there isn't any real consequence apart from a short walk. ____________________________ Waiting for: |

@ the OP - I hear this time and time again, all I can say is so much for the ruthless Eve universe, at least if something similar happens in WoW you usually get spat on, laughed at and feel determined for revenge. For all its 'hardcore' nature, most of the time EVE actually sounds more carebear than WoW could ever be. (Puts on flame proof suit) |

I've come across some terribly wretched people in Eve, but surprisingly enough, on average the lower someone's sec status the nicer they are. For example, I was fighting with a pirate and after he killed me, I asked him what I should have done differently and if there was anyway I could improve my fit. He not only took the time to give me great, detailed advise, he contracted me a fully fitted ship with faction ammo and everything, so I could do some duels with him. I think overall high-sec is a corrupting force, and all the pent-up boredom from missioning and mining brings out the worst in people. |

This is not really true. With Apocrypha, classic client was discontinued and was replaced by 'Lite' client. You might try some SM 2.0 emulator though to run Lite client. However, if you had issues to run Classic client before, you won't be able to run Lite client either. |

The game works, barely. I'm able to set skills. So I'll have two months of extra skill training when I get back. |

ARGH i hate not finding gamecards around:( my first eve moment was when i met this very nice miner who wanted to teach me the way of mining:D he took me in and i became a respected member in the corp... until my gamecard ran out a year ago and i not being able to find a new one:( ohh and my friend that took me in was kicked out of the guild for "freud" but actually it was just a plot from the other leader:( |
