Eskil Steenberg, the lone developer behind the upcoming MMOG, Love, has announced that a playable alpha test of the game is now available. There is a small catch, however. Due to the fact Mr. Steenberg will have to run servers for the test, a modest fee of 3 Euros is required for anyone who wishes to participate. The game is in an alpha stage, so if you are not inclined to deal with all that may entail, you may be better suited to waiting for the game's actual release. You may download the client in order to make sure the game will run on your machine before you drop the 3 Euros, as the game world is displayed at the game's menu screen. Project updates can be followed at Mr. Steenberg's twitter. For more information on the Love project, check out the game's official website here. Michael "MikeB" Bitton |

Can't say I've ever heard of the game, but reading through its website I love its concept immensely... |

It's amazing as long as you keep in mind it was all done by one guy only |

"Hey, hey...I'm running an alpha of a brand new MMO that'll topple WoW! Send me some money and I'll let you see it!"
Ugh, MMORPG.com. Shame on you for giving this behavior credibility.

Ive been sort of watching this game on the sidelines. Seems it will be ~200 players per server. Extremely sandbox. I 'm of course not interested enough to pay 5 bucks. I'd consider it a ..shareware mmo. Yeah...brilliant. |

Asking people to hand over money to test drive an unfinished product? Be interesting if you could get people to do the same thing in other industries. "Hey, I have this new brand of toothpaste which I almost have the formula correct on. Mind handing over 50c to try it out"?
Good luck with the game. I am sure it will be alot of fun

Boredom is in the temperament of the beholder. |
I've been watching Love and will probably play the alpha. Mr. Steenberg's request for a small donation is perfectly reasonable when considered in context. |

Looks pretty sweet, I like the art style its trippy. I downloaded the client but i get a black screen when I run it. Is probably because I'm running windows 7 but never the less it sounds cool.

VERY intriguing concept, quite original artwork as well, and when considered in context - I too don't see a problem with a small donation to cover server costs for alpha testing. As interesting as it is though, I am not sure i could stand the impressionistic art for a very long time. Screenshots alone are gorgeous, but I dunno how much of that in game I would be able to take before my head started hurting due to trying to figure out exactly what it was I was looking at. Great idea tho, none the less. Props to the developer, regardless I certainly wish him and his project well. |

Dunno, in quite a few of his videos he turns settings on and off on the fly. If the end user could do that, that would be cool (the game is much to "bright" for me) He also modifies the landscape on the fly. I'm curious how the end user is supposed to interact with the world. I did see guns though, so blowing up peoples creations will be fun =) |

Originally posted by Spellshaper I watched his entire presentation. Wow. This guy is quite amazing. All the modeling tools and infrastructure he's developed is a feat in itself. The Dauntless Reverie - a multi-game, heavy-RP community. CoH/V, LotRO, and coming soon to SW:TOR! |

the game looks alright. I was a bit turned off in one video where he said he was gonna charge $20 a month for it. As much as i like Indie game...i don't think this one is quite worth that much. Originally posted by Cyborg99 |

"Do you see car dealers advertised during a news break?" Um... yes, I have. What planet are you living on? Oh.... perhaps you meant during Breaking News... like an emergency situation. Good thing this is just news about an MMO in development, and not an announcement of the end of the world. Reporting an alpha test for a new MMO is news. Reporting that people will be allowed to alpha test the game and the criteria for getting into the alpha is news. What you believe is news or is not news is your OPINION. Which, apparently, is highly critical of MMORPG.COM, to quote: "Lmao dont flatter your'selfves. MMORPG.COM isa bit too half-assed to ruin anything for me. Its another rest-stop for a few mmo fanboys tho. Now if your name was GAMESPOT.com you would be facing tribunals right about now...They have 10 rating on games thats dont even deserve a 1. and have been caught doing it many times." "Whats more Disgusting is the half-witted editing of THIS website mmorpg.com. They kept the ability to sign up for the same game that were just mention. Hell I bet they still have links to tabula rasa sign up." "Its like a mental illness isolated strictly within MMORPG.COM. Some of the most evil fkers you will expereince are here. It used to be a time where somthing prfound would be said. people would amit to never have thought to seeing it from that perspective. Now The very idea of being constructive seems to be the bane of this forums existence. Personaly I dont come here for the biased reviews, the twisted forums. I just sorta hang around for the contest other than that I wouldnt even be messing with this dark and damp part of the internet..." "I know oyu have been stricken with a case of "mmorpg.com" disease..." From a developer standpoint, I thought this was extremely interesting news, although he came off just a little too high-handed in the presentations for my taste. Explaining why he took the approach he took, and how it may be superior to current development is one thing, but making a generalization that current development is the result of stupid people doing everything wrong is more than just a little conceited, particularly when he kind of characterizes himself as the only intelligent person in the business. Im flatteered you took what 10 min to quote most of my post. I am not shy on showing my displeasure on how the website that I joined years ago. Didnt have so much of a gradual decent in quality like most website. But insted had succumb to all the Hard-core fanboys (you) and had its legs sweeped from under it. So dont think for one second that im worried on what I said. Anyone whos been here for a while knows what I am talking about.
As for this developer oyu feel the need to give money too. Pay a visit to his website Quel Solaar. Im still having trouble telling if what the hell he is typing is Nationalist views, Evangelical, or just bouts of insanity. Hell one of the comments on his post said "Have you read the Unabomber Manifesto? You just wrote part of it." Not the most encourageing thing to be compared to. Although being a narcissistic may bring thoes kinds of symptoms.
But you go right ahead and waste your money on a game in alpha from a Dev thats a few bats short of a bellfry. I honestly could'nt care less.. Whats annoying is Big Title games like Global agenda, ect dont have this great deal of pay $3 and instantly get into the game. Now that would be cool.

Nothing you have stated above changes the fact that this was still a news item. Although the "hard-core fanboy" comment / attempted insult is typical. -1000000000 points for the lack of any actual rebuttal and a stock, unimaginative insult. Thrilled that you aren't worried about what I said, although you did devote your entire first paragraph to it. What exactly does his political, religious, or social views have to do with the game he is developing? Unless he's packaged some kind of working subliminal mind control into the game, I could care less what his views are. Now as to being a narcissist... certainly got that from his presentations, although perhaps self-important or self-aggrandizing would be more accurate. All of which still has nothing to do with the game. Thanks, but I'm fairly certain I don't need your permission to spend my money. I am also fairly certain I am fully capable of deciding if it has been wasted or not. So your real issue is that a lone developer is offering to allow people into the alpha of the game he is developing and is charging a fee to cover his server costs, but Hi-Rez Studios won't let you play Global Agenda? Which again, has absolutely nothing to do with whether this was a newsworthy- item or not. If you are really interested in Global Agenda, MMORPG.COM recently had this news item: Global Agenda: Improve Your Beta Chances Who knows, if you had been paying more attention and spending less time bashing one little news item, you might already be playing Global Agenda.

I want to thank MMORPG for covering this indie game. I myself like to follow Indie developers and hadn't heard about this one! Definitely will be keeping an eye on it.
And anyone who laments the lack of innovation, the 'corporatization' of MMOs, should be supporting developers like this. Otherwise, you'll be getting more of what you complain about. _____________________________ Games I'm watching: Infinity: The Quest for Earth, Force of Arms.
