No, the people complaining are the ones that get tired of the same game with different graphic styles over and over and over.

How long can you play the same game?

Seriously?

You created a thread where the topic was on how your wife bought you AION. In that post you said you'd never post in the AION board again. Guess you're a liar who can't be trusted.

Yes I did say that until you guys flamed and turned a light hearted topic into a back and forth flame war. You deserve what you guys get now.  Eve the WoW fans on the board aren't that pathetic to flame a guy talking about his wife.

Also do me a favor dont start chasing me into other threads and bringing up other posts to discredit me. I have no problem reporting you for harassment and stalking.

Look up my post history and you'll quickly see that you incorrectly group me with "you guys." Your threats mean nothing to me, especially when mmorpg.com isn't exactly the best site to go to for reviews or to chat about games. Plus you can just create a new account on a different email address. Besides, I'm 28 years old and have better things to do than to follow you around. I browse topics of interest by what pops-up in the Most Recent forum post section. I check this website once a day for news, and may comment on topics I find interesting. I don't spend my day on them, like some people. I just thought I'd point out that you broke a promise, regardless of your excuse, which is fine...not my problem. I guess some peoples word means more than others. I'll leave you to your AION trolling, while I try to find some actual decent discussion on the game I'm actually playing.

I agree with the OP, its a fun game with lots of promise and staying power. Is it world of warcraft, no. Is it as good as wow maybe not but atleast for me its the next best thing, and quite frankly thats good enough. Lots of companies have tried to copy it, why because its arguably the best mmorpg ever made, none have been very succesful. Aion however has done the best job in my opinion of giving me the wow type experience which is exactly what ive been looking for. Thats not to say i want wow 2, i simply want to recapture the magic i felt in the begining of wow. Aion has done a good job with that for me.

Years. As long as you take a few weeks/months breaks in between.

People keep proving that with every mmo released.

Ill direct this question to you. Do you really want every MMO to be exactly the same? A fucking quest stacker with the same gameplay, basic UI and feature set in every game?

When you load up one of these games don't you get that feeling that you've done all of this before?

When I load up a SP Rpg its a new experience with different gameplay mechanics, I don't bring home a game that plays like Final fantasy over and over. Those copycat games that bring nothing to the genre are given low ratings and dont sell, yet the MMO players eat that shit up and are all but destroying this genre.

The MMO genre as a whole is a running joke that a 5+ year old game is so dominant. Fuck, I would go nuts if every Fps game played like Halo or every Rpg was the same shit like FF or every Action game played like GTA.

Yet here you are happier than a pig in shit playing the same crap over and over and over since EQ.

It's just like every game genre.  FPS games, sports games, rts games, they are all very very similiar and feels like I done them all before.  It sounds like you don't like the genre so stop the hate.

I disagree. The FPS genre has come such a long way since games like Doom, Quake and Half-life.

Rts games don't even resemble old shool rts and Sports even being a bit handicapped by a RL ruleset have really improved leaps and bounds. Play Madden 10 and tell me Madden 93 is the same shit.

meanwhile most people (that started with MMOs back in 97) will say WoW is just a Dumbed down version of EQ. Basically no innovation whatso ever comming from the themepark (linear) sub genre.

Really?? Tell me the huge difference between doom and current fps, besides graphics?  real time cutscenes?  vehicles?  and huge jump in fps gaming can be equated to the huge jumps mmo's have made.  But in the end, FPS are shoot em up games, with repetative play,  and ironically the shotgun is usuallly still your best gun, lol...

Yeah you really have no clue what you're talking about...that or you only play Halo when it comes to FPS games....0o

. . . and yet you offer up no reasons for the difference?  FPS are FPS, Action is Action, Sports are Sports, and MMOs are MMOs. The only difference between games of equal genres are minor advancements in programming efficiency and gimmicks to lull the less fortunate.

Soon as I get a chance to really play I'll let you know. (Still experiencing 45 minutes queues which is beyond my tolerance level)

What I've seen so far has been fun enough (standard fare) and I'll wait until I'm in the Abyss before deciding.

Anyways to get on topic if people enjoy Aion good for them, but you should know better when posting on the mmorpg.com forums...there's a lot of players at least here that aren't content with the state of MMOs right now.

And if you're so hung on a bad impression of someone elses well.....>>

Sorry but I have to chime on about the difficulty of Aion. I've played WoW and now I'm playing Aion and by far Aion is far easier than WoW.

  • Included within each quest are underlined objectives that open up a in-game "dictionary" and offers you a chance to mark locations on your map.
  • Farming mats are universal and only require you to have enough money to buy the next tier to unlock it.
  • Mobs for me so far have only linked 2 or 3 times making single pulls a breeze. (To be fair I'm only level 25)
  • Selling goods can be done anywhere at anytime making it a breeze to rid yourself of unwanted items.
  • No need to hunt down bags as slots in both your bank and inventory are expandable as long as you have cash.
  • Crafting is simplified to the point where you can level all of them to decent levels and make tons of cash without worrying about picking anything until much later in the game.
  • Putting together a group is as simple as linking a command in chat for others to click on to join.
  • Combat is simple in regards to combos that automatically pop on your toolbar with the next string in the chain.
  • Skills are easy to upgrade with no worry of gimping yourself by choosing the wrong "talent". You level and by all available skills, simple.
  • From 1-20 finding named quest mobs are as simple as changing channels
  • Picking gear is simple because there is no randomized loot table to worry about getting gear with undesired stats, everything is pretty much set in stone. (Manastones offer ways to further specialize to some degree)

All of these things and more prove to me that Aion is much easier to get around in than WoW. WoW didn't get easy until players themselves started making mods to make their journeys easier. And if you think that the only thing a Dev has to do to make his game harder is to making exp points gained between levels larger then you have no clue what is easy and hard.

I for one welcome these changes in Aion, they show that players need not worry about other things when attempting to join in the fun (Which is PvP action). Not one should need a degree to figure out how to maximize their characters potential with gear, stats and skills. If a well made system is in place, this should be the last thing on a player's mind. And Aion has this system nailed down completely.

Difficulty needs to come from figuring out how to overcome your human opponents with the tools you have available, not trying to figure out what the tools are.

1) By your logic the FPS genre has improved in  two ways, graphics and Physics. Games like MW2 and Killzone are excellent examples of improvements in the genre.

2) By your logic RTS games are much better then earlier versions as well becuase of a few additional features and upgraded graphics.

3) MMO's have improved alot from the days of EQ, perhaps not the improvements you are looking for metal, but all the things that make the games easier, like quest helper, addons, additional options and features can at their core be improvements to the genre as a whole. I mean 90% of EQ players grouped and grinded most of the time. The fact that MMOs now give you dungeons and group quests, public quests and active rvr pvp with a third party AI, shows you the changes MMO's have gone through. If you sit here and say MMO's have not changed since EQ then I can easily say then FPS physics dont mean crap because its just a graphics tweek and a few extra gimmicks.

In the end the gameplay has improved and that is very easy to see, just because this game doesnt hit your fancy doesnt mean it has not improved on past tittles. Which IMO it has, if you dont like it thats fine, play fps's and other games. But dont for a second post that mmos have gone no where and FPS has improved immensely, because thats just BS.

You have to be blind or just talking rubbish.  Aion is THE most simplistic, linear, grind-laden mmorpg I have ever played, on a par with  some all-but-worthless F2P Korean games I have tried out.  The plot is so thin you could shoot peas through it, the quests were obsolete YEARS ago and it's so linear it might as well be on rails.  Anyone with any brains whatsoever will just pass this game by unless their gaming standards are lower than a rattlesnake's arse.

I have been skeptical back and forth because I thought it was going to be a lineage 2 clone.  But my main games (just for reference) i have played in the passed years are: Anarchy Online, Lineage 2, Planetside, World of Warcraft, Counter-strike, Guild Wars, Team Fortress 2, Star Wars Galaxies, and WWII Online, all other games just for testing or feeling purposes.  And I have to say, Aion isn't "omg the greatest game ever" but it is a fun game to play and not a waste of money.  If that helps any of these laughable flame wars or not, I don't care, but I figured I'd post this for those browsing these forums looking for input but running into non-sense posts..

This is the point.

I want the challenge of outwitting or outplaying my enemy.

I don't want the challenge of who did the boring part the longest, got the better gear, or has more people.

I want to level up, yes.  But I also want to have a chance against EVERY class.

I want a balanced game where a 1v1 situation is up to player skill, not gear.

I want a game where if I play right, I can beat 2 or 3 v 1, but not by a landslide, if at all, but it's POSSIBLE.

The most fun I've ever had was winning a 4 v 1(me)  In WoW's arena as a rogue against a druid/warrior/mage, who outgeared me.

I've long since quit WoW, I desire fun PVP, I hate where WoW went with their PVP, I was excited and pre-odered WAR, only to be HUGELY disappointed by how much of a nukefest it was and my melee was useless, especially in keeps.

Maybe I'm just insatiable...but the point is exactly what you said.

You've already made your point in another thread you opened up. Leave and let the people who DO enjoy the game (which are many...ha!) be.

"You should only listen to my opinion! If you don't agree I'll keep posting the same shit in every thread in the subforums of the game I didn't like until SOMEONE finally agrees with me and strokes my peen"

Yeah really, this guy is annoying, posting all over Aion forums when he hates the game.  He's jealous of these people and wants them to play EVE with him or something. As for how long can you play the same game? It's already been said EQ, UO, etc have been going on for 10+ years. This guy desperately wants attention because obviously EVE isn't getting any, look at his font, it's blue for Christ's sake.

Dude come on.  That's lvl 1-20/25.  Vanilla WoW at lvls 1-25 were easier than this, let alone how much of a breeze they are now.  The quest objectives being show on map, how is that different from the quest helper addons or thottbot.com for WoW?  I think it's obvious that the vast majority of players do not feel like doing that many quests without quick help.  Gathering mats is simplistic in both and has no reason to be complicated.  Aion's system seems more expansive.  Being able to craft all basics on all character is a way to let you explore & try them before you specialize.  That actually makes it a better crafting system.

WoW leveling required zero grinding, everything was controlled by quests.  Aion splits off from that concept midway through the game.

I'll tell you this much, since I played Closed Beta and Open, each time around leveling got easier.  Just like in WoW.  The difference is that in WoW the quests stacked better, hence it was faster & easier.

The game is fun, well done, polished & full of content.  It's basically a better & new Vanilla WoW.

It's a good break from the sandbox MMOs.  I mostly play EvE but sometimes I like some hack n'slash.  Doing the quests, gathering mats, upgrading gear, trying to battle tougher enemies, enchanting & modifying gear, etc.

People are hating for no reason.  No fan or player of the game is trying to claim that it is innovative.  It's not.  But it is a good game with great design.  The PvPvE is the appealing concept to many of us and noone really knows how far the PvP of Aion will go.  It has a strong grind element, which I feel is more of a good thing, for several reasons that I do not feel like going into detail about.  Every MMO has a grind, even the sandbox ones.

Lastly, the launch is probably the best MMO launch so far, for EU & NA.  It really does not matter to me that the game was active in the East for a year.  It is important that it is in great shape now at launch.
