The system is very deep. The changes your char will experiance are almost unknown because of the skill system. I started amorous like most not sure how to spend my points. I liked building my own equip so I crafted and was fighting with my crossbow in Terence. I applied a few AP to Int and percecption. Hmm Perception and rifle go hand and hand. Intelligence and medical go hand in hand. A look at my templates showed I was going Vista as a faction. Not my first choice but everything lined up so I'll do it. As I leveled and my char grew and I put points in things I didnt think were important like athletics, I changed. My Toon wasnt a Vista, she was CHOTA quiet ones. Now I saw the newbie quest and wasn't interested in black sheep outcast CHOTA as a faction/subfaction. Still I knew the philosophy of the quiet ones was a similair beleif as mine, I didnt want to screw myself and my template.
In the end the lightbearer philosophy swayed my toon. A CHOTA quiet one with buddist ideals and a couple shotguns to make sure her core beliefs werent lost. Strange trip for sure. |

Out of the thousands of posts on this forums I have read over the years, your post is by far one of the best. No fanboying, no bashing, no BS. It was informative, objective, and straight to the point. You exercised the idea that in this particular situation there was no need for drawn out and zealous statements. I salute you OP, keep up the good posts. A tiny mind is a tidy mind... |

I second what Mithios above me just said. In fact your description was quite inspiring. You almost make it sound like you're playing an actual.....dare I say it.....roleplaying game. In most MMO's all people can talk about is how quick it is to level up, what endgame content is like, what quests there are and......ugghhh you get the point. I've read a number of posts about this game. Some are bad but more of them seem to be quite positive. It certainly appears to be having some technical issues from what I've read but the game itself sounds quite interesting. Detailed character customisation seems to be a rare comodity in MMO's so its nice to read about you putting points into Intelligence and Perception.....and reading that they have an impact on the use of different skills. Having the choice of different factions sounds rather good too.....like you can find some sort of place in the world in a roleplaying sense.....and a cause to fight for.....and a reason to unite with and roleplay with others. Hmmm I have reservations about joining this game at the moment mainly because of the initial release problems I have heard it is having so I will probably wait to see if that dies down.......but I reckon I will read up a bit more about this one. The other recent releases seem incredibly boring and bland to me but this one actually seems quite different. |

I'm confused. Does this mean your faction alignment changes depending on where you put AP? I'm at the position where I'm staring at the window wondering what to do with it. Also, is there a way to bank things or send them to an alt? if so then I feel more comfortable going fully combat one one char and crafting on another. No, your APs do not affect your faction. However, the things that the factions offer your character are good for certain skill types. So, if you want to flat out melee, taking Techs is a bad choice, because they will not offer you much. The CHOTA however, will offer you good items. And so on. And yes, there is a banking system. You have normal vaults, which hold things for the whole sector, barter vaults, which are only in certain areas, and VIP vaults, which are only in the "star" cities on your map. And yes, you can mail things. |

What is being described by the OP is the template system. Each faction has a combination of various strengths eg Melee, pistols, rifles, first aid, athletics. So a Traveller has Pistols and athletics as strengths for example. And as mentioned above doing missions for a particular faction will reward you with what they specialise in. Rewards include equipment and skills(sometimes rare). To maximise your AP sending and to ensure that you fit in to the faction that you are interested in, you can apply a template to your AP sliders(from the drop down box at the top of the AP window). Which means that you can see where you need to spend APs to ensure that you are in line with your chosen faction(or area of interest, as these templates also include ones for crafting etc). You can easily swap templates to see whether you would fit in with another career or faction. In other words it is a guide to show you how to spend your APs. |

I was some what curious on it all too, I've been playing, have spent only a few AP so far just to get things I need, but I'm a fan of armor use + rifles. Yet that doesn't fit in with my Faction of choice. I want to be a Traveler. While pistols and such are neat, my goals for how I want to play my character are different.
I've been registered here a long time, I read daily. I just don't have much to say. |

Originally posted by sigurd57 I understand what you mean as i too feel like being a Traveller and using a rifle. However the system is so flexible that you can do this, at the expense of either a weaker defence, first aid, crafting etc. I plan to train both pistols and rifles and move around a few factions beofre making a final choice.

pfft. You are saved by the Lightbearer philosophy. Salvation for the just and death to the rest? I got no problems with the CHOTA. Just stay out of the way of the families and you won't get hurt. Trevor Goodchild - Traveler - Crafing/Pistols |

Actually, it's very doable. You could choose Travellers as your faction, but gain faction with Vista, which would allow you access to the benefits of their faction, since they specialize in rifles and armor use. As someone else suggested, you would miss out on certain skills that Travellers specialize in, but it's what /you/ want to do. You'd only be trading the two skills perhaps, rifles instead of pistols and armor use instead of whatever, but since they're both ranged, you could easily work on a lot of the same skills. You just have to play with the stats and skills and see what you are willing to give up in order to take what you want. |

If I win the one of the free digital downloads of FE (lol hopefully) I will give it a try because it seems good and I love weapons when they are implemented well but this rarely happens unless your naming an fps but that's no rpg. Anyway I wanted to know if there's anyway to reset your character growth if you made some mistake? (If it's not the growth I mean the points you use to distribute stats/skill/whatever) |

No, there is no respec and it's a point of contention. For me, I don't see how you could make a mistake unless you deliberately went out of your way to gimp your character.

Great OP and good replies by everyone. Makes me actually want to consider giving FE a trial. Wait, is that what these forums are really supposed to be for? Naw, back to trolling... |

I simply started fresh with another character. Right now, I have 3 characters. 2 at lvl 17 and 1 at lvl 10 or so. I have a Lightbringer, then a Vista, then a CHOTA. Respecs, to my mind, simply promote the 'build of the month' mentality, where people will change their character to reflect the most powerful build that is possible, leading to a lot of similarities and that build dominating on the battlefield.

You could roleplay that too. When you log into the game you could search for him by stopping by at various towns and villages and asking people "I have business with a man named Blakavar. I know not if that is his true name.......but if you hear of such a man then let him know I am looking for him". Then he might find you. |

I never thought I would amount to anything more than a nomad, killing whatever gets in my path to wealth. Now that I'm a wanderer for the families my power has never been greater. Some day the King will realize that the families follow me. Until then I wait as you do. There's no profit in putting a bullet in your skull so I won't be looking for you among the snakes lying in the grass. If you do decide to slither your way to Credit Bend I'll know. Perhaps we can share some CHOTA lightning while I show you who really runs the town. Wanderer, Trevor Goodchild Trevor Goodchild - Traveler - Crafing/Pistols |
