If you're a Star Trek fan eagerly anticipating the upcoming December 15th release of Star Trek - Season 3 on Blu Ray, and also looking forward to Star Trek Online, you're in for a bit of a bonus! Customers who purchase the Blu Ray release of Star Trek - Season 3 will also receive a code for an exclusive Admiral outfit for their Star Trek Online character once the game launches.

Only on blu-ray?  That is lame.  I might have actually purchased a regular dvd for the code.

lol, I see what you did there.  VHS though is outmoded and has been for over a decade.  Blu-ray is far far far away from replacing dvds.

Kind of funny, most of the pundits find blue ray to be merely a blip in the media formats.  It is not selling well and there is not much difference with the new digital dvd players.   I certainly have no intention in getting one either.  There are some new exciting formats coming down the line that will make Blue Ray superfulous in the near future. Sony has again stubbed their toe.

In light of that I can say Cryptic should know better.

Wow, it's a promotional tie-in.  I think you people are reading way too far into it.  Although, I do think it would have been better to tie-in with release of the Star-Trek movie release on blu-ray, it isn't my call.  I'm sure Cryptic didn't have much of a choice as to what it would have been tied into.

Do you want to sell 100 copies of the series on DVD format for $100 or do you want to sell 100 copies of the series for $300?

Gotta do the math.

And yeah, I know those aren't the prices....

Sooooooo I'm guessing uniform and rank are asymetrical since your Captian (player) starts at Lieutenent (rank) and still be a Admerial (Uniform)

Neat idea. But... TOS? on Blu Ray? Why?  It's not like (even re-mastered) that any additional quality could be wrung out of the original.

Here we go with the Ferengi privileges and offers...

I understand there is a whole industry behind Star Trek (and I bet lots of greedy people trying to capitalise from the launch of this MMORPG), but, I do not like this kind of promotional tie ins between different products and specially relating to inner working of an MMORPG, hopefully this remains on the cosmetic realm.

I been accepting some of the more controversial aspects of this games but Microtransactions and this sort of offers such as this one is still something that is really not palatable to stomach.

Unfortunately, this seems to be the "norm", now.  Many MMO's offer pre-order bonuses, if ordered from select stores.  I only see this getting even more so with future developments.

I just look at it this way.... When we see someone on with the uniform we can just all point and laugh at how they wasted their money on something that won't even look much better on blu-ray. We really should pitty these poor souls, and instead try not to get distracted by their inevitable epeens they will have from the epic pants of theirs.

"Easy" only equals "better" for crack addicts and MMORPG developers.

Guess they will use any attempt to try and sell more blu-ray.  Something just to get the die hard fans to shell out more money for a series they probibly already have. They'll buy the bluray just for the costume if no other reason.

I brought alot of the Startrek series on VHS years ago , said then I'd never buy it again on another format , because those tapes are obolete now, in years to come blueray will be and they will just be selling it on yet another format.

Don't think a code for an in game item is really enough of an incentive to change my mind. :p

I'll settle for re-run's, its cheaper.

My point was just I don't feel its worth while too keep buying them on every new format, even for some special in game item.

I don't own a VHS recorder anymore no. When it broke, I just bined it and sold the tapes. I can remeber virtually all the startrek episodes anyway and re-runs are always on the TV  hehe.

As for gaming , thats different, yes hardware is forever changing new games come along, I'm fine with that. I get alot of enjoyment out of the games I play and the hardware I build to play on.

Just I wouldnt get the same ammount of enjoyment for the money out of multi box sets on a shelf that get watches once in a while.

Well, you don't necessarily have to buy those DVDs. People whom do not have them yet may have the option to purchase them, and they get an extra along with it if they happen to be interested in STO.

If not, well, can't be helped. but there's really no need to see this negatively. They sell and they add an extra. sure, it's incentive, but it's only worth it if you really care -that much- about it.
