Well I had an interesting conversation with a friend regarding whether Aion was an open world....he says, "yes," I say " no." In an open world concept, your able to travel anywhere regardless of location, faction or race. Now here is the conflict, in AION you can explore the land...just not the other factions land...you just cant explore the land unless there is a, "RIFT." Thus you have only such a sufficient time to explore or gank opponents. While to some this is, "OKay," I simply feel this is just another ,"VALID," reason not to spend your hard earned money on a game with a concept such as this that will ultimately lead to no replay value. Forget the grinding quests, the mediocre landscapes, the template character creation, the music etc... in the end, "REPLAY," value is more important.

Er.. I thought you were making a valid point at first, until you started to sound like you were actually trying to dissuade people from purchasing the game based on your views. Then you just came off as a prat. Yep, prat. .. But in a good way. |

Instead of ranting like a little schoolgirl, why don't you just go play something you like instead of crying to others why you don't like Aion.... Cause seriously, you sound like a little WoW crybaby. Leave the Aion forums because your only wasting your time by posting this garbage.. I don't like Halo or counterstrike. I thinik both games are repetitive, boring, and stupid. But you don't see me going to the forums complaining about why I hate the game.. Doing so would be stupid, a waste of my time, and pointless.. Just stop crying and move on with your life,, geeeez. Rallithon Oakthornn |

Some of you are really that bored...eh? I mean I get pretty bored at work too, but I don't bother trolling other games I don't care for or constantly try to get a rise out of folks. The least you could do is make it humorous :( 1.For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical. 2.To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself. |

Sorry, no easy 24/7 low-level gank-camp-fest "open world" for you. |

No it's not an open world at all. I can't understand anyone claiming it is. You haven't discovered anything. |

Aion has several pve only zones for both factions to level and gather in, then theres 2 zones that rift, one for each faction where you can get pvped if enemies come in, and then theres the abyss, everyone can get in after 25 and its always pvp although you might not run into and enemy if you dont go looking for them, you def will at fortresses during siege times of course. |

"Open world" to me means you can go anywhere-and-I thought you could in Aion., especially flying. But low and behold, I hit the "wall" of not being able to do that, which is a little disappointing, but EQ was the same. |

I don't think it has to be an entirely open world. In fact, I don't think I would like that. I've not played Aion, but I bet there is also a limit vertically. I mean you probably can't fly as high up to the sky as you want, or dig yourself to the very bottom of the land. Do you have to be able to do anything? Maybe reach the moon? Pick the seeds inside an apple? Why do you want to be able to explore all parts of the world anyway, Adoniskev? Is replay value all gone just because you can't visit some place? You can still select different classes, and try the other faction on some other server. I think that's something. If you want to be able to pvp, just go to the abyss, there people accept the fact that they can be attacked. It's nice to have places where you are at least almost entirely safe. Maybe it will give more of a "this is my home"-feeling as you won't see so many enemies in your leveling zones. Edit: I wouldn't mind having some boundaries in real life. Not being able to create atom bombs or something else along that line, wouldn't it be fantastic? |

If a game has all the features of WoW, its nothing but a WoW clone, but if it lacks any of them, its incomplete. |

Aion is not open. I am perfectly okay with this. My family has enjoyed our last few weeks in Aion emensely. We have had fun, which is new for us considering how BAD the last few MMO's have been. You are correct in that it's not open. You are sadly mistaken about not purchasing the game. This game is a BLAST to play. If your bent out of shape because you can't fly your elyos character to the asmodian starting area, I think the problem is with YOU and not with the game. Go outside more. You need it. Really. “Never violate a woman, nor harm a child. Do not lie, cheat or steal. These things are for lesser men. Protect the weak against the evil strong. And never allow thoughts of gain to lead you into the pursuit of evil. Never back away from an enemy. Either fight or surrender. It is not enough to say I will not be evil. Evil must be fought wherever it is found.”The Iron Code" |

My understand of an open world is that not only can you go any where but there is no zones. You can see for a long ways away from a mountain top, can walk from one end to the other without loading or and zones. |

I think this is correct. Like every time you board a Zep or a ship in Wow, it cuts to a loading screen. I guess that is a closed world.
Now if you could swim from Azeroth to the Eastern Kingdoms, that would be open, but WoW has disguised this and called it 'fatigue'. I can't comment on EQ, never played it.
In a PvP game like Aion, an open world would be a disaster. The world needs to be designed so people are directed to the Abyss. If you don't understand why, then this game is definitely not for you.
