I just hit level 30 today

this is the truth behind aion

1-25 quest driven leveling --themepark.

when you reach level 26 you will have to do lineage 2 asian style mob grinding from lvl 26 by levle 28 it takes 8 hours of mob grinding to level up 1 level. at level 30 it takes 10 hours to level 1 level.

there you have it folks the truth behind aion, but its still fun grinding the mobs away at level 30 lol. I am not sugercoating anything. You just grind and grind mobs till you hit level 50.....

Sounds about right.

It still doesn't rival the grinds in Perfect World and Final Fantasy XI, but still, it sounds about right.

Finally I can get that sense of accomplishment for hitting cap, again :P

.. But in a good way.

doing a repetative action that takes little to no thought for hours on end creates a since of accomplishment?

You cant be further from the truth then you are in this post.   At 25 an abyss instance opens up that takes 1 hr MAX to kill every mob in there an avg run with full group at 27 gave me 2 mil xp and the named has a chance to drop 8 or so blue items.   Also got Fire Temple at 31 which is nice XP then you got sky temple at 27 also nice XP.   You got elite ice claws in morheim at 28-32 which is 20k a kill.

So your 8 hrs to go from 28-29 while true if you wanted it to be is far far from accurate for the average player.

Oh and the Training grounds instance has a 17 hr lockout but you do that once a day and theres 50% of your level in 1 hr.   not to mention the countless quest that has you kill the other race you get 300k + for 10 rank 9 then do another one for 10 rank 8 which is another 350 + k.     This game is only a grind if you want it to be but sure you gotta grind some but it is only as bad as you make it.

either way there will be sub lost due to asian grind at 26+

If your the type of player who would level up to max levle with just quests your going to have a rude awakening around 26+

i gurantee you this is not a quest driven themepark mmorpg mid level. If you cant take the harsh asian mob grind around 28 you wont even last level 30+. It'll take me 10 hours straight mob grind to hit level 31.....

Depending on the result, for myself, sure. Every MMORPG has a grind of sorts, with very slight exceptions to that rule, but your statement applies to most grinds.

I received more of a sense of accomplishment hitting 20 in FFXI and unlocking sub-classing a few years ago than capping multiple times in WoW :P

.. But in a good way.

I tend to find accomplishment in defeating odds not in repetative tasks.

I think the difference is you're thinking of each task individually, while I'm thinking of the culmination of those tasks.

I think of grinding as a mathmatical equation of 1000 dead orcs = lvl #, 10000 dead orcs = lvl #, etc.

I would rather see "Destroyer of [blank]" beside my name because I killed some boss that was hard or difficult to reach to get my accomplishment.

I'm so relieved to hear it gets harder and harder as you level! That means all the WoW kiddies with no patience will quit by the time they hit 26. What's even better is all the, complaining, idiot griefing fans of CS, Halo, etc will quit even before that!

The grind doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I welcome it.. Aion already reminds me of old style EQ where it took a LONG time to reach 50 back when the game was first released. You think 8 hours to level is bad??? Try a week of 6hour + grinding each day during hell levels just to go from 30-31,,,,, 35-36,,, 40-41,,, 45-46,, etc! I kid you not. It took me a good week to level one level during hell levels which basically took you twice as long to level than other regular levels. Even the non hell levels took a good 16+ hours of nonstop grinding to level!

This is one reason why only the dedicated true hardcore fans of EQ reached max level. These same people understood what  respect, honor, and kindness meant to one another.  You didn't see a bunch of us running aroud trying to steal mob kills, roll on rare boss loot they cant use out of greed, nor did you see them ks someone's camp. The types of people who do this won't be the ones playing Aion past 25. And I say to you mmo killers, don't let the door hit u on the way out..

I'm here to stay :)

yea im working my way to be the first level 50 cleric on my server :p

its either the queue would kill some subs or the heavy grinding post level 30 would kill off some subscriber base.

People who complained about lack of quests at level 21 , chances are they are the kind of people who wont make it post 28 let alone post level 30.

seeing as im 30 + already your reponse and OP is a far from the truth.   Like i said if you want to grind out mobs in one area then y ah its gonna take awhile but if you throw in campaign quest, instances, some pvp etc you will find leveling is not to bad.   You just seem to not care about doing any quest or not even respond to the point that the training grounds instance gives 2 + mil every time you do it and you can do it until level 30 and after that you can do fire temple.  There are ways to make it faster and more fun  but you dont care about that all you care about is bashing the game and not exploring it and doing quest, etc.

I guess this game will prove one thing.  If it fails...I am not saying it will....but if it does then the chance of a new mob grinding game coming up anytime soon is very unlikely.

Over 4 mil Asian players so fail is out of the question.

Now fail in NA/EU nope but it never claimed to wanna be #1.

I don't really see how there is any pride or sense of accomplishment for "Sticking it out"

The argument about the trivialization of society never struck me as valid. Kids getting trophies just for showing up to sports but never playing or winning. That is what getting levels in modern MMOs equates to. Really, what have you accomplished. You showed up and you played. Does that make you better than the guy that went on to greener pastures? Probably not, just highlights questions of your sanity.

---

In most MMOs you grind mobs till you reach the max level. It's how fun it is and how transparent the mechanics are, that make or break the game. It seems many people don't mind killing mobs in this game. Hopefully you might find another game more to your liking.

the asian market has nothing to do with games produced and released for in the west.

Accept that at 28 / 29 you get another massive spurt of quests in eltnen that you can ride to 31... Yes there are periods of grinding, but there are also periods of quests.

Honestly, I agree with you. I don't expect any tangible rewards for playing the game through, say to level cap in Aion, but I do undoubtedly get a sense of personal satisfaction at doing such things, not that I go around shouting "Yay me I hit 50, now give me rewards!"

.. But in a good way.

ZOMG, I feel so much better knowing this!  I never would have expected that an Asian game where the style tends to be a bit grindy would actually have some GRINDING in it.

What a shocking revelation!  ~grin~

Thanks for the laugh,

Grind does not = hard stop fooling yourself. A person either likes mob grinding or they dont. My first MMO and just like most there first is there favorite was asherons call. I know all about grind and it didnt bother me in the least but that doesnt mean it was hard, it just means it took longer to level.

this game is designed for korean players..Western markets cant stand that level of grind so this game will have the same fate as lineage 2..bots are NCsoft best customers after all
